Damn... I am in awe of your work. Colors, highlighting, freehand, battle damage, sculpting. Incredible. I'm going to have to paint my JSA now. It won't compare, but I can't let those new sculpts waste away in their boxes.
Mifune is the best ;) Although if I have to pick my favourite samurai movie that would be Goyôkin (sadly without Mifune).
Thanks! I’m inspired by the encouragement from forum members, like your good self, as well as the great work posted here to really try to do good work. Plus the great JSA sculpts deserve lots of care and attention to detail. Good luck with your JSA, hope to see them posted someday.
Did you know the Kuroshi Rider is an anime piece like the Section 9 Ryuken? It's based off of Celty Sturluson from Durarara!.
SHINOBU KITSUNE Such a cute face! This old model was a little rough in places but cleaned up OK. Spoiler: More Pics Spoiler: Oniwaban Conference "Hey Guys, Let's play!"
TOKUSETSU BUTAI These guys are in to lend a hand to my JSA! Packing body bags and sweeping up trash lol! Bit of a slog and rushed to get through them to be honest. Given that these sculps are pretty dated it was hard to be inspired by them. Especially the male Tokusetsu: Proportions are really out of whack with small head, short stature, giant gun, one bulging arm and five fingers WTF? This guy reminded me of working back on a gen 1 Space Marine Techmarine (Ugly but necessary to have lots of them in order to field vehicles in an army back in the old days of 40K). I just wanted to get them done asap and out of the way to clear space for some more exciting things that are computer sculpted and at proper infinity level awesome quality. Was happy though with the unit markings I devised to denote doctor and engineer roles. @archangeleong These older sculpts have held up well over the years. I bet they look nice next to the newer JSA models you've painted.
The lady seems closer to today’s level and is quite ok but the guy is not so great. Not sure if these guys came out at same time before they were packaged together but there seems to be a big gap in quality. In any case with a good paint job they standup ok next to the newer sculpts.
@archangeleong You may have a point there. Still this shows what a good paint job can do for an older model.
Good job, keep them comming The Ensei mini is a recent (2 years or so) CAD model and personally I see nothing wrong with her (apart she is skipping leg day). Kohei has some extra fingers so he can works faster and don't have to ask any cats to lend him extra pawns/hands. It was really bothersome for Neko Oyama...
Makes a lot of sense. Thought the lady looked like CAD design but wasn’t quite sure. Cats can be very helpful lol. Today mine swished the tip of his tail through my red paint! He had a cat paintbrush ready to lend a hand(tail) lol!
I was referring to a Japanese saying - Neko no te mo karitai. Apparently your cat thinks you could use some help ;) Also seems that cats tails are perfect for painting. I would not us it for drybrushing though.
