I think CB already pointed us in the right direction from the beginning by including this in the N3 basic rules:

This paragraph talks specifically about LoF and Open Information, but I think it's obvious that this kind of etiquette is expected in all aspects of the game. These lines sold the game to me.

When this etiquette is ignored and a player tries to abuse the rules or force every movement/LoF, etc, Infinity really becomes a painfully slow, tedious and annoying game.

I'm not trying to be confrontational. I just really want to know because I always thought that is a really important part of the rules. It defines the spirit of the game for me.

 

I live a 3 minute drive from there, but I usually organise games round my house as I have the terrain.

If that's where some forumites are hiding though I may well make more appearances...

Yes, you're wrong about the meaning of the paragraph you've quoted.

There was a multi-thread discussion about that and pie-slicing / intent and how that etiquette blurb relates to it.

Pretty sure there is no way to understand CB's statement beyond what it says? To play with etiquette and respect and not be a rules lawyering jackass, per the Warmachine quote. Right? I don't think he was trying to bring up a new intent/as written debate, just point out CB's stance on 'gotcha' gameplay :)

Considering people have taken a single word and invented an entire playstyle from it, I'm not so sure about the truth expressed in your rhetorical question.

My comments on people's ability to stretch words into whatever they want then to mean notwithstanding, it seems obvious to me. Why add/interpret meaning where there is none?

The statement is "players are expected to share this information (lines of fire and where AROs will be generated) in a truthful and sportsmanlike manner", which, doing so would obviously prohibit playing 'gotcha!' style (forcing an opponent to make their move/declare where their model is landing before revealing LoF or ARO potential).

 

I can't possible see how you could read that quote any other way. It is also a more enjoyable way of playing the game.

I've been arguing that this whole time, but it's a can of worms as you can tell when looking back at threads.
