Back in the UK tomorrow. So time to pick up the brushes. Leaning orange on trim colour like the Nightwings
skinWIP. Started with Deck Tan (VMC) and glazed i iwth Anthracite Gray (SC75), Gonna highlight back with Deck Tan once my hand has healed (fucked it up in work and ripped the skin off my fingers, oww), maybe a bit of a mix with white for the tips and then some select glazes for shadows. Gonna just darken the eye slots as well, not confident enough to paint them in! I wanted him to have a sort of stoned skin look to go with my artic bases.
Saying something like that is akin to pouring gasoline over a raging inferno. You'll likely get engulfed during the process.
I started his uniform earlier today, I'll try to get an update over next two days, basically starting the blue-black (Mixing VMC German Gray & S75 Anthracite Gray), but I'll do what I did for my CA; Start Black, figure out other colour placements for balance. Then return to finish off the black last. It's a bit of a weird way of doing it? but I find it helps.
Forgive awful picture, I'm rushing today so only have time to take a quick snap! here's my completed test mini/HVT. Not my best, but I have him to work from on my next troopers and can return to him in the future or redo him. I went for Emerald over Green, I think it works better. The screen is a blue tint and the backpack is a brown leather, I just don't have time to take a picture of that side, you can see the shade on the bag...handle? what even bit is that, the strap? Thoughts?
@Flipswitch I think that he looks amazing. From the colors of the coat & outfit to the shades of his skin. It all combines together very well. If it is not too much to ask, how did you get the skin to be that color? And while we are at it, the recipe for the outfit. I'm really liking the overall color scheme for this model.
@Golem2God Anytime mate. The skin is: 1: VMC Deck Tan Basecoat 2: Wash with S75 Anthracite Grey 3: Highlight Mix Deck Tan and VMC White Grey 4: Glaze VMC Dark Sea Blue. Black is: 1: German Grey (Absolute best colour for black basecoats I think) 2: Wash Black. I use any tbh, Nuln Oil is fine as is just a thinned down black. Better to use multiple thin washes than one big one. 3: Relayer German Grey 4: 50/50 German Grey S75 Anthracite Gray 5: S75 Anthracite towards the edges 6: VMC Light Grey(?) for edge highlights. I'll double check this one tonight when I get home. You could probably just mix Anthracite with a white for the same outcome here. Emerald: VMC Emerald Glaze with VMC Dark Sea Blue (shoutout to @Nathelis because this colour is great) Mix Emerald and White for the edges. White Grey: VMC London Grey VMC Sky Grey VMC White Grey on very edges. This one is a bit harder to see, I went a bit too faint with it. Brown: VMC Chocolate Brown Then I kept adding Dark Sand to the mix until it was almost pure Dark Sand. Multiple thin coats of VMC Smoke to shade the whole thing down, selectively shading certain bits to really darken it down in places. I'll get a picture of the backpack soonish for you. Screen was just a bunch of blues and glazes. e: slightly crap WIP picture I found on facebook. I'm debating shading the eyes a tiny bit more for some deeper contrast, but I promised @psychoticstorm and @taylor I was finished so I had to move on. :V
@Flipswitch Thank you very much. I'll be keeping these in mind especially the colors needed for the skin.
Wondervar!! It looks really well done and professional. Plus it is a great sounding name. The Varuna Hammerheads.
