Triad explicitly says it doesn't: This Type of Fireteam can be used in Generic Army Lists, in addition to Sectorial Army Lists.
Like I said, it's worded badly, the whole Fireteam creation rules are a patch on a patch on a patch. But when one of the playtesters, who also edits and maintains the wiki, writes a guide laying out how it works, that is then stickied by the powers that be, maybe people should take that as a hint on how to play it, rather than repeating the same arguments over and over again. I really wish @HellLois or @Interruptor or @Bostria would post in this thread, say "Yup, this covers it, slap it on the wiki"
So @ijw maintains the wiki? If so, then I thank you for the awesome work and saving me much time and many headaches! But being new to the official forums, how was I, the umpteenth person to point at a potentially confusing rule, supposed to know this or that the fireteam list on the wiki trumps the offical profiles pdf?
You can't, obviously. And technically it's an appeal to authority fallacy. ;-) On the flip-side, this is a stickied thread in the rules forum, specifically to explain how Fireteams work, which is a pointer that it's not just random musings...
How are people supposed to know any of this? I am on this forum. Mostly infinity players are not. And people on this forum have no clue either. A stickied thread ("by the powers that be") by a warcor means so much? Just check out the NCO tactica. It is written by @barakiel in april. This guy wrote 2 PanO tacticas both stickied. (His tacticas are fun to read btw ) A warcor with 1k+ posts. And that tactica talks about how great CSU Duo is in NCO. Not one single person pointed out to him that that is impossible in that stickied thread. CSU duo even gets especially discussed there. Even alot of people on this forum have no idea. I fully agree that would be great. I never said it should be played differently. I'd even argue to allow @ijw to make official rule statements. It would help alot. But the current state of things is horrible. I for one will never fault anyone i meet for fielding a duo CSU in either ISS or NCO. (Even though i myself will probably not field any because i know how it works due to random circumstance). Anyway i said my part and will shut up now.
Thanks for the shoutout by the way, and glad you enjoy the tacticas. You're 100% correct, at the time I wrote the tactica, I had zero awareness that CSU Duo wasn't legal in NCA. As I recall too, the presence of Duo for CSUs was brand new at the time, and was seen as a little buff for NCA that noone seemed to question at the time. As you say, it wasn't pointed out by anyone after the tactica went up either, and hasn't been pointed out for 5+ months. It actually only came up in the last month or two that the Duo is illegal in NCA. I asked around to see how groups were interpreting this, thinking specifically about the Tactica, and a lot of metas seem perfectly comfortable continuing to allow it because of how counter-intuitive the "PDF vs Army Builder" ruling is. What I'll probably do is specifically mention the community confusion involved, and advise players to clarify the point with their group or tournament organizer before relying on using it themselves. For a long time, back when profiles were being printed in books, the watchword was "ignore the books, always refer to Army for current unit profiles." Now it seems to be "ignore Army, use the PDF." In truth, I don't really know where to look now, and I've been playing this game for a long time...
Please bear in mind that there is no "PDF vs Army Builder" ruling. There's a "read the rules for the abilities listed in Army" ruling, and pointing out that Army doesn't contain the full rules for Fireteams. The classic example being Umbra Samaritans having the Fireteam: Haris Skill (and this being shown 100% correctly in Army), but being unable to form a Haris of just Samaritans, because Requirements for a Haris include more restrictions than simply having the Skill.
Had some discussions in our local meta about how fireteams in new Shock Army would work, specifically the special core options for acontecimento regulars: Special Fireteam. Up to 2 Bagh-Maris can join any Fireteam Core of Regulars. Special Fireteam. Up to 1 Orc Troop can join any Fireteam Core of Regulars. So, would 3 regulars and 1 bagh-mari still be a "Fiereteam Core of Regulars", giving the option to include an ORC into it, or would it be some different kind of fireteam, so it would be either up to 2 bagh-maris, or up to 1 ORC + regulars? In my mind 3 regulars + bagh-mari is still a "Fireteam Core of Regulars", but the way these options stated separetly is not entierly clear on how this should work, so I would really appreciate it if @ijw could state clearly how these fireteam options work.
It's 'can join', not 'consists of X + Y'. So yes, you can have an Orc and up to 2 Bagh-Mari in the Fireteam at once.
yeah but she has the Harris skill inherently, so if I wanted to make a Harris with her as the core, can I include the machinist?
She's not a wildcard, she's Unless that was a copy-paste typo. Which i think it is, as Army have her as a wildcard.
it doesn't, usually characters have a clarification: "X counts as Y for Fireteam comp". Just asking if this was intentional or not and that she can call herself a Kamau Harris
