I have a few question regarding white noise : The description say : "The White Noise Template must be entirely within the Hacking Area." When I declare the program, I place the template then measure my Hacking Area and discover that part of the template is outside my hacking area. Is my white noise fully cancelled ? I use white noise and part of the template (but not my target) is on an ennemy troop. The ennemy troop reset, what happened if his reset roll is better than my hacking roll ? A Gao-Rael move into one of my repeater ZoC, can my interventor ARO with white noise : on him ? Anywhere in my hacking area ?
1. As far as I'm aware, you'd lose the template. 2. The White Noise Zone is not a template weapon and doesn't target anyone. Placing it over an enemy trooper will not trigger any AROs. Note that there is no way for the White Noise Program to be a Face to Face Roll. 3. Anywhere in your Hacking Area, as it's not a Program that has a target of any kind.
I thought you indicated a center point and then placed the template on top of that... same situation, but has a bit more guesswork. I'm in agreement that White Noise fails if part of the template is outside of the hacking area.
To be fair this was the result of an FAQ right? I think the initial way it is presented in the rulebook would lead most to believe you could use it to block LoS in a way that creates face-to-faces.
No, there is nothing in the Program wording that infers that it could stop incoming shots from MSV troopers.
FAQ specifies that you cannot use White Noise as if it was something with Dodge trait, so it's basically confirmed you cannot block attacks with it.
So to be clear about it. I declare White Noise with my H+, then pick the circular template and the ruler, and finally place the template inside the ZoC of the hacker or any allied repeater, since the "place the circular template inside..." is on the Effects part? Or I really have to guess the ZoC's size, place the template and then measure to see if it's ok? (I think if this is the case, the "place the circular template inside..." should be inside the Requirements part instead of the Effects, but... High Gallego).
I'd go with "put a template, measure during resolution" for consistency. I'm not sure if there's something indicating otherwise...
I always read it in this way: first you declare the use of the skill, than you roll, and only after the roll you place the template so the requirements are respected. Never thought it as a guessing game. (something like Combat Jump template area. You keep changing it until it respects the requirements - it doesn't fail if you don't guess the area at the first placement)
As per the red box on http://wiki.infinitythegame.com/en/Order_Expenditure_Sequence you have to specify all choices for a Skill when declaring the Skill, but the WIP Roll doesn't happen until the Resolution step of the Order.
The difference is that you can clearly see if there are terrain features or not under that template, whereas "8 inches" is something you have to eyeball. Not saying it's the only way to read that, just suggesting. EDIT: ...but then again, if that happens during resolution, you may be right.
