What is your favourite Pano Heavy Infantry unit game play wise (not model looks etc) to use in your games? Why?
Lately my favourite has been the Swiss Guard ML, as he is a beast, fun to surprise an appear out of nowhere with TO camo, and fire the ML template weapon wrecking havoc on opponents Fireteams and best units! I am also interested in using the AHD Swiss profile and the Hmg profile too as they look awesome!
Guarda de Assalto - ASA was my first army, so that's a given; it's a toolbox unit weapon-wise, I've always liked those; the model is nice, even if out of scale by now.
Tough question as I love all our HIs but the one I use the most is Aquila Guard. Just because I can't afford to lose orders in failing to discover camo tokens and he is a monster in active turn. Keep him alive during reactive and he will do the job for you.
Swiss. Because apart from Burst, the second best thing that wins firefights is BS mods, which come in bundles of 3, as opposed to BS, that comes in bundles of 1. Swiss has high BS (15, bestest), high Burst (4, second bestest (or third, if you consider some B4 main troop and B2 synchronised troop thingies)), best BS mods (-6 for TO, -3 for surprise shot), so overall among the best shots in the game, not sure, if there's anything that's shoots better than BS15 (MULTI) HMG with TO.
Would be Swiss, but I actually only fielded him once so far. Mostly because I didn't have a model for him and I don't like relying on proxying too much. It may be the humble ORC for me instead. But I kinda moved to making a TAG, a Kamau/Nisse and a Bulleteer my main attack pieces. I don't actually field much HI lately. If you did ask model-wise, it would be Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. Although I do like playing him from time to time, I got the model for the look.
Hospitallers, full stop. Rock solid stats, frenzy discount, good enough at CC to deter anyone that’s not Saito or Shinobu. Great weapons options, a fantastic specialist with the Multi Rifle Doctor, wide range of link options especially with the Magister link. Core linked HMG is one of the biggest guns you can field - BS17 B5 HMG backed up by linked Panzerfausts and linked LSGs is seriously solid. Obviously they shine brightest in MO while linked, but a Hospitaller Doctor is one of my more common choices in Vanilla as well. Also i just realized how steep the frenzy discount is. Hospitaller HMG is 3 points less than the ORC and has +6 CC, +1 WIP, +3 BTS, Martial Arts L2 and Religious. And in a link Frenzy doesn’t even matter!
Swiss is probably the best PanO has to offer. and is a very popular choice, obviously. I think theres something to be said about the ORC Harris though, a lot of people here shit on it but I think for specific missions they can be really really effective. Engineering deck and The Armory come to mind, where ARM7 in cover, BS 14 BSG can really tear almost anything a new one in confined quarters.
Swiss Guard. All the profiles are good, the HMG is king. It's an iconic unit, it's great on the table, it's perfectly at home in its Sectorial as well as Vanilla. Great unit.
For me it's the Swiss guard HMG, just have him drop that TO camo and four dice later some thing is dead.
Swiss is the easy pick here for best PanO HI. HMG profile is the top of his loadouts but I have a soft spot for the ML for it's ability to punish a poor play. People always talk that PanO is only good at shooting things but PanO's TO camo game is no joke.
ORC Haris. Hits like a ton of bricks. Nothing tricky. Just raw firepower and blunt durability. That's why I came to PanO (from Ariadna).
For me as for many others the Swiss Guard is the main star of PanO, whether it is armed with a HMG or a Missle. His brutal efficiency at dominating firefights can alone win games. Whenever I am theorycrafting lists I am always trying to bring something that can deal with a Swiss Guard's level of firepower. I must give an honourable mention to Guarda de Assalto as a perfect multitool for many objective heavy grabbing scenarios, Capture&Protect/Looting&Sabotage/Acquisition/Supplies etc. comes to my mind. Armed with a Spitfire it can be a deadly attack piece but a plain multirifle is also worth taking for close range capabilities, paired with Hflamer and shotgun on a little bot. Of course leveraging tactical usefulness of zero-v smoke is a key to success. I really cannot say enough good things about this particular HI unit.
I'm curious, how do people build their ORC Haris? To me they always seemed like too much of a point sink in one place.
