Well, so why there are police bikes in films so often in non traffic/highway duty? Convoy escort, light response force that can move in jamed streets/pedestrian zones faster than remotes and TAGs... We don't know how are built the towns in Varuna but there must be areas where something like a Pelican dropship would be useless. Well, as @Stiopa said, I think it is useless for me to continue. You have decided that they won't fit and you seem enough stubborn to not reconsider it. But, as weird as they could look (green armor in a blue and black sectorial), I think that they will do a great job.
I'm excited for an ORC Feuerbach ARO piece, linked with fusiliers. once he goes down I re-link with a Kamau HMG and the link becomes an active turn monster. worst case scenario the orc doesn't die turn 1, the Kamau is still a solid piece.
Actually, if you'd like to we could discuss it a bit privately. It might work better there without a peanut gallery chiming in.
I would also like to point out that on Varuna there is the Catholic shrine of Saint Julian on Tangaroa Island. Plus it mentions that the Hospitallers have a clinic there. So not having Knights in Varuna would be weird since they do have a presence on the planet.
I think that identifying these links was helpful in filling in the blanks for Varuna. From the sound of it too, Helots will be pretty firmly a backline unit, so we probably should not expect infiltration. I have to think a bit about how Helots will provide that role when we obviously just learned about some amazing link options with good long range firepower. If the red furies or LRLs are cheap though, I can see them providing a lot of firepower support in the midfield without having to awkwardly run your whole link team around just to get a bead on something. But will that midfield support role compete with Cobras or Echo Bravos too? Curious to see what will keep these units operating distinctly from one another. Pretty exciting.
I would still expect to see some type of FD. LRL and Red fury is kind of counter intuitive to being a backline support unit. I'd like it if they played a similar role to how the old Raiden played in JSA. it was pretty unique. The dossier listed a MSR for the helots, but I can see that being omitted all together – ala ORC.
@kanluwen well, if you want. I'm not an expert in the antiterrorist thing but I still see uses in them. I think we will need a lot of try before figuring how making our links in the best ways. But after all, flexibility isn't a thing I'm used to as a PanO OTP player.
Here's a thought; Helots as backline guards and sentries, Camo, Sixth Sense, no forward deployment. Zulu Cobras with FDL2 operating near the midfield, a hi-tech Streloks. Echo Bravos are a complete question mark, since we already have two AD MI. 360v? ODD?
No, you should never reply to any topic on bikes because you have literally nothing to contribute except whining. This is why PanO is famous for whining.
Montesa Bikers? Cool, really cool. Looking forward for the designs. Secretly, I always thought to myself IF PanO gets a biker that would be a Teuton Biker-Lancer. But I wont mind an offroad wild biker, really.
So nobody else is going to touch this? Fine. I'll do the dirty work. PanO is "famous for whining" because of people like yourself who would come into threads after the fact, trying to stir the pot. It's "famous for whining" because of people like yourself who continually have dismissed any of the constructive criticisms to the point where some people might feel it is instead okay to just shitpost or that they won't be taken seriously unless they engage in hyperbole. It's "famous for whining" because it's a fractious community where there's a great many different views as to what should or should not be present in the faction or how things should be composed(see specifically Knights and Fusiliers, the two hotbutton units). So kindly take your commentary elsewhere.
Could tou give me source for this, please ?:) Well they could be indeed DZ defenders with veery cheap price due to low BS skill (10 or even 8 ?) but "hard to remove" due to Camo (limited camo) and mayby some form of Transformation ? Also imagine MSR for 1 SWC or less (same for Red Fury or LRL).
BTW what is Varuna not getting? We have Fusiliers as cheap baseline troops, Bikes, AD, Minelayers, MSV2, TO, Infiltration, TAGs.... That's pretty much the PanO Vanilla list of things we don't get in general. Where are the limitations? No Smoke as usual and shitty CC capability?
It is nobodies business to dictate who comments on what, we appreciate discussion, but without the hyperbole. @kanluwen If I may ask what makes you think Montesa are only for Varuna?
True, I haven't heard of bike-mounted SWAT. But firemen, yes. There is a number of fire departments in the world that use motorbikes as actual fire engines. The article claims that, for example, in Sao Paulo, deployment of fire bikes cut down response time from 10-15 minutes for a fire truck to 5 minutes for bikers (operating in pairs). Meaning qualified personnel with basic light equipment may be at the scene in 5 minutes, and start doing their job / assessing the situation even 10 minutes before main force makes it to the scene with heavy equipment. I guess you could put the Biker Knights in the equivalent role in the Varuna force: Heavy Infantry power armors aren't a thing modern-day SWAT teams could have (though I guess they'd love to!). Yet mounting those on motorbikes would again allow you to have some highly-trained, well-equipped crisis response personnel at the scene - doing what is possible to defuse / contain / limit / counteract the situation quite awhile before the SWAT van / 'copter / tilt-jet makes it to the scene with the main body of the SWAT team. I mean, I don't know what story CB have behind Montessa bikers. Merely theorycraftin' here :)
