Is the Harris profile on the updated profile pdf a new option or have I missed that before? Is this an error or a hint for varuna?!
Sounds like a hint of course, since Haris plays no role in Vanilla. Very promising. Kamau seem like a natural candidate for Haris, but that's reassuring to hear. Also nice to know we may get enough different Core choices that Kamau may still want to be featured as a Haris.
A Kamau Harris with an HMG seems like a really strong pick. Especially if Fusiliers get to Core. I don't really see why they wouldn't, as they are our only "real" line troop. Kamau are quick, good BS, mimetism to tip the scales even further in their favor, and cheap. Great attack candidates
Considering how much NA2 players rave about the Brawler MSV Haris I can see the Kamau MSV2 MSR being popular especially as HMGs and MSRs are very close in active turn damage output once you've got the +1 Burst.
The 4-4 mov helps a lot for Haris. For Medium Infantry, I'm usually reluctant to pay ~50 points and .5 SWC just to give +1 Burst to a heavy machine gun. But with 4-4 MOV, a Kamau Haris can accelerate from long-range gunner to attack/button pushing pretty easily. BS13 Mimetism with a Combi is good in the midfield.
Yeah. We saw that first in Druze. I'd love to see it become an option in Varuna, especially if it's fireteam linkable. Vedic's missile bot is supremely flexible in its linkability, so maybe we'll get lucky with the full EXP missile option.
They're adding lots of 'wildcard' link options that are extremely flexible. I can't wait to see if this occurs in pano and other factions. For example I could see raktorak becoming a "wildcard." It would not surprise me if the Clipper got to join in with a linked team.
Father Knight Wildcard could be the dream MO never knew it had. The Linked Missile bot never struck me as very good in the Links it currently is available to. For Yadu and Wu Ming it's an expensive and vulnerable filler, for Dakini and Druze I much prefer the Mimetic MSRs. If it was available to static, cheap LI where having REM Pres and BS12 would actually be an upgrade over the baseline trooper, I think I would be more exited about it. For anything that actually wants to move up the board (and already has a Sniper or HMG to cover long Rangebands) that's a pass for me.
I don't see why a Father Knight couldn't join a linkteam. It makes sense from a lore standpoint to have them fight alongside the other orders.
@Teslarod Dam15 AP+Shock or Shock Templates, B2 on 18s is quite an upgrade/alternate to the other stuff. The MML2 in a Link is a big part of why the Unidron are so damn scary. Any faction that has this Rem in their Link has access to that kind of ARO/active link-smasher. Also being a REM, this means the bot his a really good ARO piece due to being more recoverable via engineer due to second Unconscious level.
I do believe the father knight needs a little more oomphf to be that dream wild card. Id love to see some marksman rifles on the big guy
He should be the MO Command&Control unit. Wildcard, Number2, Lieutenant profiles with Advanced Command or stuff like that. And yeah, some better weapons.
While i def agree I'd like to see him fulfill that role. His fluff seems to indicate them being closer to combat chaplains "The Father-Knights are ordained priests who have received intensive combat training and are renowned for providing expert tactical support and close-quarters expertise. Armed with a Spitfire, they provide PanOceanian soldiers the moral support needed to turn defeats into a thing of the past." Not officers. Then again we dont have a rule which can represent what a chaplain does for morale other than inspiring leadership. I cant really argue father knights would be super balanced with that rule.
No idea why people always assume Assisted Fire is automatically included in the package... thats at least another 10-20|0.5 and costs an Order a Turn. Together with the Samekh's price that's a Spetznaz, Intruder or midrange HI. Ofc that beats a baseline Fusilier for almost triple the price. And if you take Assisted Fire into the equation something like Unidron or Dakini Snipers still handily outperform the Samekh. I for one do not expect to hit things with Linked MLs on ARO. Sure it happens, but your plans should not be reliant on that. However a Sniper with an additional MOD is much harder to beat in a FTF. Wasting Orders and getting a pickoff here and there is all I want from an ARO piece. Having Templates is nice and blapping multiple models feels great when it happens, but you're mostly preying on your opponent's mistakes, which a better player might simply not have made. I get that MLs are nice and ofc I take them i.e. for Fusiliers or Swiss Guards. But the reason behind that is that the Missile is usually cheaper, has extra synergy with TO or a Sniper option isn't available. Especially for a Samekh in Dakinis it seems like a downgrade in every way. It's worse at shooting and more expensive, Wildcard or not Wildcard, that's a no thanks.
At least in the US military, chaplains are officers. They're not Line officers, ie, in the formal chain of command, but they are officers. Of course, Chaplains aren't supposed to be armed in the US military, either (they have enlisted bodyguard/assistants that are supposed to handle that for them, because actual Chaplains are supposed to be Geneva Non-Combatants like medics). I think that Father-Knights would be good for Chain of Command (looking to the known officer in the firefight) or NCO, probably not LT. And definitely not Inspiring Leadership, despite how good a fluff fit it would be.
