I did a quick check and the number of objectives the prowler can do is now crazy In both deck, he can do : Capture Follow up Kidnapping Net undermine Sabotage All of them being easier due to his infiltration. What do you think ? Will the become a stapple of all nomads list ?
Hmmm, definitely seem like a low key boost to probably our least most inspiring troop, but does that really encourage use of them over Zeros and such??
The question is, can the Prowler do something, that the Tomcat engineer can't do? 14 points under the spitfire profile and 11 points under the Specialist Operative, which can't do Sabotage. The BSG profile is not worth discussing. So, yes, you can now think about him, but the Heckler Redfury is as an cheaper attack piece . Edit: forget all of this. I mixed in my memory Tomcat and Wildcat. Wildcat is one point more expensive than the Tomcat and doesn't have AD:AI. Don't know if the Prowler is still better.
Prowler Spitfire is a Bakunin staple but I'm not sure anyone's gonna favor him in vanilla. None of the profiles are points-efficient. The spitfire is good for the following reasons: Camo/infiltrating spitfire is really, singularly mean He's mixed in with cheapo skirmishers and it's not clear where he is / if he is around at all
The concept of the Prowler is good including bloating it a bit to keep it fair but I think it's a bit much right now. At least the SWC tax is uneeded.
Heckler has a Red Fury, not a Spitfire. Not that it changes much in Prowler's case... Although he is interesting in that he has D-Charges.
I wouldn't mind losing the tax either. You are right that he needs a little bloat for fairness' sake.
Do they really? They're basically Hellcats that trade Camo/Infil for AD. I'm fairly certain Camo / Infil already scales with the underlying cost. As best as I can tell a non-bloaty Spitfire Prowler is ~31pts / 1.5SWC (-1pt D-charges, -1pt CCW to Knife, -2pts Bio-Immunity, -1pt WIP14 to 13). A great unit, sure: but even then it's not a "must take" and that's taking the most extreme estimation of the cost of the bloat. By and large the community thinks adding a 2pt skill to all MI is reasonable. There's a few units where it raises eyebrows (for instance Grunts, Yadu, Intruders) but overall all it does is bring a lot of underperforming MI up to par. This tells us that a lot of MI are overcosted by 1-2pts. Realistically all you need to do is apply FD1 as a discount to Prowlers and drop the Spitfire SWC to 1.5. I'd also drop the CCW for a knife and decrease the cost of Bio-Immunity (I'd seriously consider just making it free). You'd end up with a ~33pt / 1.5SWC Prowler Spitfire.
He looks like the hellcat, sure, but he is way different. A hellcat doesn't have defensive skills, requires prep to get on the table, and makes demands on you in listbuilding to support it. The prowler is a one-man show who dunks on anyone deployed out of place with Surprise Spitfire... you pay his price and not a penny more. That kind of plug & play convenience kinda demands bloat to even it out.
