Either that or be truthful to the unit description and make her carry a suitcase with a chthuloid horror inside instead of "random cat 37362528". Makes way more sense for an infiltrator and "spy"
I'm not fazed by Andromeda's silhouette, but when you add in rest of her skills, armament, and - especially - competition, it's not easy to find a place for her in a list. She's a solution in search of a problem. And it actually gets worse in OSS than it was in Phalanx; there she was competing with Thrasymedes. Here she'll compete with Yadu.
And Nagas. Specially Nagas. Like, can anybody tell me wtf is Andromeda's role in OS besides being a tack on because they couldn't be bothered to design another OS original profile? Atalanta at least would have checked the sniper role without needing a Dakini link. Edit: how can Andromeda be the same cost than Mary Problems?
Nah, only Nomads can get new interesting 1 model into 2 rules/abilities. Sorru Aleph ewen you are not that priviliged.
I guess there is a way to make Yadus look absolutely AWESOME. :D A very nice summary. She pays for being part of Aleph, and she pays for NWI. And oh, she pays for the privilege of being S4.
Yeah, couldn't resist. XD Although I was surprised at the comparison in first place, in my view Yadu and Andromeda are completely different roles in the army. For me, Andromeda competes with Dart, Nagas, and Dasysu - and loses abysmally. (in Vanilla I'd add Thrasymedes and Krakots, with same results). That is, forward deployed specialists and/or speedbumps.
Oh, I haven't mentioned those, because I wasn't aware that it can be even a competition. Infiltrators would have to have both arms and legs tied behind their backs :P
Andromeda is theoretically quite good in SP, conceptually Like you end up building SP stuff in blocks, because of how their links work, and you've only got limited SWC, combat group space etc. Once I've taken my Myrmidon team, my Thorakitai team, my Ekdromoi, my Agema and some cheap orders with REMs and such, it used to be quite tricky to fill that role of "costs around 20-30pts, is a specialist, can get job done, doesn't need to link, can engage in gunfights" gap which often appears, especially in SP IMO. But Andromeda is pretty perfect for that, she doesn't link, she is a specialist and she starts up the board, she can go in gunfights, she can protect herself... The problem is the S and the S problem is because of Guardian and her having the dog on her base. If she was S 2, CC 20 with MA1 and the Dog was basically a USMCAB-K9 or Chimera Pupnik type deal, then I think she'd be awesome and unique and not quite such a pain to use, even if that meant she would cost a few more points. Voronin has the problem too but less so because he's supposed to be hiding and therefore the fact that moving him around is a pain is not really noticed. So yeah basically my issue with Andromeda isn't that she's that bad conceptually, she isn't, or that even she's that bad on the table, she isn't, but that she seems to be a mostly abandoned experiment in game design which results in her being less desirable and useful than she should be.
I just wanted this... Shit, I wanted the video to start at 1:43, but the forum doesn't let me do that
S4 with 4-4 move and no free order to move her. And no specialist movement skills to overcome her fat base. The s4 was to justify Guard (or vice versa) which is a stupidly niche skill for cc - where there are already a multitude of skills that do similar or better. She could have easily had MA or NBW or i-Kohl or a mix of these. As has been said, a G:Sync version would be better. Even turning her into an AI:Motorbike-style model and have her swap between S4 and an S2 with Sync'd S4 would be better.
If she's the Datatracker she gets a free order, which is actually pretty damn good. I don't even think she's that bad now, tbh, she can take and defend objectives pretty well and 28pts is not a lot to pay.
I'm afraid not. By the way - only now I've noticed that nice, massive handle exactly in the way of targeting scope. Nice job, Concept Artist <slow clap>
I'm also struggling to find the magazine; it's missing both the unlikely B4 cylinder and the impossible B3 banana. Though I suppose it could be a new, under pistol-grip design.
