Hi! So I was playing one of my first games ever today and we came across a situation where someone was firing a direct teardrop from a chain rifle at an enemy who was quite close to some friendly trooper. We know that the templates are 3 dimensional, can be fired from any point on a silhouette, and angled in any way (maybe not this one?). So the interesting bit is that with models all at the same elevation, it seems possible to angle a template upwards or downwards in such a way that you can hit a model and not a model more or less directly behind it. Or directly beside it: This doesn't seem to be how these templates should work, but I don't see anything in the rules that says it's not the case.
It's exactly how templates work. The example in the Wiki shows this to be the case. What you need to remember is that the DTW is a cone so you need to spin it to see if it hits a friendly. Having said that provided you touch the enemy silhouette and not a friendly you should be fine. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Template_Weapons_and_Equipment Also awesome. First game and already on the forums :)
welcome to the game. This is indeed how templates work. You will note that it is illustrated here. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/index...Equipment&redirect=no#Direct_Template_Weapons Yes the implications are that you can avoid friendly troops with clever template placement, well done you have played well.
