Honestly, if the only thing stopping someone from starting a sectorial is the "label" on a particular unit, it's totally possible to just get creative and change it.

So you don't like Nagas? Alright, use the Naga rules for badass hardened jungle fighters. Pick your favorite PanO light infantry to represent it. Convert something awesome that looks like it could be stalking through the trees of Paradiso or Acontecimento. I use Emily and two Auxbots for my Scylla, to give my force more of a PanO feel... Looks great and noone minds it.

You could just play more AD as a pseudo infiltrating specialist. No one expects the 5th Akali.

Before obtaining actual Naga models I used order sergeants with combis painted in Montesa Order green, and nobody had any problems with that.

What's good for you is not necessarily good for everyone else. I, for example, don't like to color outside the lines. Making things up is not my cup of tea. If CB can't be bothered to come up with interesting Acon. profiles, I'm not going to do the work for them.

Moreover, your comment misses the broader point, which is that I find the sectorial itself uninteresting because of the use of Aleph band-aids. It's not like I have a desire to play it, but am deciding not to; CB's design decisions have--to my eyes--rendered the sectorial per se unattractive.

But if you view things differently, that's cool. Different folks and all that.

Would you be okay playing the sectorial if the Aleph units were Mercs instead?
Is it the fact they're Aleph units, or that they're not available to vanilla PanO that makes you dislike them?

I don't see how this is a problem. That is specifically why PanO created and employs Aleph supplemental troops

If that's the design decision for PanO and its future i'm thankful i'm also playing haqq.

Go figure. Put a Ghulam, or a Brawler, or an Alguacile, or a Druze in different armies and noone cares.

Put a Naga in two different armies, and suddenly it's a point of moral opposition.

The hills that this community chooses to die on just blows my mind sometimes. We pick the weirdest things to give a f*ck about.

Actually, it makes sense. Pano has the most limited Generic army and thats because we have not gotten much from our sectorals to add to the base army.

This is why vanilla must leave the game in the future. Every single Sectorial released this year gave a linked team that some people think is neat and some models that are absolutely favored in vanilla. Vanilla is choking a lot of design space. ...hence, Aleph borrow and other Sectorial woes.

Seriously. Atiadna just gained MORE dirt cheap ambush camo.

I really disagree that vanilla should be removed. The AVA limit makes each faction have an option for variety without the typical spam you see in sectorials. If anything, if vanilla is off balance, then the AVAs should be managed instead of taking the option away altogether.

I dont mean this is an immedoate solution for the game. This is a way doen the road thing. AVA does not solve the problem unless you mean the ava for certain new units in vanilla is 0 - which is what theyre kinda doing with aleph borrows and such - but as you can see its not entirely useful, nor successful. Ava1 of 5 different infiltrators is ava5 infiltrators. The Vanilla problem is that anything they want to add to a Sectorial either has to be from somewhere else, or carefully limited to not overstate vanilla. Have a read through TAK, Vedic, and TJC threads. Everyone's excited for what they can now do in vanilla. Many new additions to the game are legitimately more useful in the generic army than their respective sectorials.

Meanwhile pano's vanilla feels limited for the same reason other vanilla seem so full of tools. The problem is expressed in a different form: ava1 of 5 different 60-116 point models is not as useful as 5 different 20-30 point toolboxes. The PanO-iest things are crazy expensive - So of course you're going to feel constricted.

The removal won't be instant, but were already seeing preparatory shuffling: jssa, na2, mercs mode, closed battle lists. NA2 simply had to happen to make more use of existing models without crowding vanilla factions. These are all connected with changing the way armies are made, and how units can be mixed. I will be completely unphased if we see a sectorial-only tournament option in the next year or year after as all the Sectorials get wrapped up. I suspect that eventually, allowing vanilla in tournament would be the option - but that's likely easy down the road. Like N4.

Come now, you've gone back and forth with me enough times on here to know I'm more consistent than that; I dislike the new Merc sectorials for similar reasons. The Druze were alright, then it got piled on a bit thick, in my humble opinion.

Regardless, it's not "moral opposition," it's my personal preference.

    Nope!

It's the fact that rather than design something unique to Acon that helps flesh out the character of the sectorial, CB punted and patched a bunch of holes with Aleph instead. Don't care if they're available to vanilla (in fact, I'm all for more sectorial-exclusive units/profiles). It's more pronounced in Acon. than anywhere else, to the point where my view is that it's diluting the character of the sectorial.

But again, that's one man's view (maybe two men, given this thread). I don't think it's anything to get worked up about. :-)

Akal are really expensive specialists. 6pts and 0.5 SWC for pushing buttons is a lot. Give them FO (not you, I know you can't, but CB)!

People keep bandying about IA possibly getting aleph units to fill similar niches as they do in ASA. It is, IMO, such a lazy way to solve a problem.

I'm in the "Aleph units on loan are great" camp. It's a nice way to highlight the cooperation and support between Aleph and the major factions. Plus I really hope that whatever changes we'll see for Devas will trickle back to NCA.

Oh my... Why didn't I ever think about this?

Has any one tried this? Sounds pretty fun as a hard specialist who can habdle himself. Sturdy armour IP with multi rifle. One Squire Palbot[\b] and another Palbot somewhere else on the board to do some actual medic stuff.

I agree with this for the most part, and makes sense at least with PanOceania and Yu Jing lore-wise.

That said, an in-house Camo infiltrator for PanO would be nice. If not ASA, I'd be fine with Slavarheima getting it.
