@Ginrei I don't think the requirements on really matter at all to the discussion, I'm just supporting that slotting it in would make as much sense as having it separate - although CB has never to my knowledge made a level 0 nor re-arranged numbers on existing skills, so regardless of feasibility it'd never happen. Personally I don't think it matters much either way; my only own concern was that I had to look up Tunguska Raoul TFO because I got TFO and NCO confused, but... you know... my problems and all.
Smoke and Mirrors unboxing was released this morning*, if the pattern holds we'll get another video after lunch*. *Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so
If you believe slotting it in makes as much sense, is it that hard to admit it would've been better from a structural stand point as well. Which leaves us with a very clear winner. Infiltration has a level 0. So adding a level 0 to an existing skill is no different than adding level 5 and frankly makes more sense than adding a level X. That actually leads to an another point regarding @ijw's claim NCO is easier to remember. He's making an assumption that players will know what NCO means to begin with. I find it far more likely that players will know the rules for the game they actually play, Infinity in this case. So players would understand what a new Strategos level might be regarding before they know what an NCO rule might be. New players still have to learn what Strategos is or what NCO actually does as well. I understand it's easy to shrug this off and say it doesn't matter either way. But do you realize how often I've heard this reason on many other subjects within the game? If CB took the time to trim the fat or optimize the structure on all of them the game would be in a better place. But It's easier for CB to just churn out new rules than it is to make a new rule AND consider the implications on the rules structure and how it affect the health of the game. It's also easier for existing players to just accept what they're given in a vacuum rather than consider the same. Let alone concede that making changes in the way they currently play might be better for the games health in the future... because that would require the player to actually do something. I really want to rewrite the rules and improve them. I have the skills, drive, and desire to do so. But what I don't have, is faith that players will accept anything I do without bias or CB's blessing. It's been made abundantly clear even the most win win of changes isn't enough for people to accept them. It's a bit of a popularity contest which is something I've never been fond of. If only people could let the work speak for itself.
Agreeing to disagree doesn't refute the facts I've provided or show flaws in my logic/opinion. So you're free to have a different opinion but when i show flaws with yours and you can't do the same it means something. To be fair, I don't spend much time in these monthly threads. But do you think your observation means/says/reflects something about Infinity?
What facts? :-( We've been here before - yes, there are plenty of places where the Infinity rules could be tightened up or streamlined (I'm probably a bigger proponent of this than you are), but this is a really bad example to pick because it's one that doesn't actually make a difference either way. All you're doing by this point is irritating the rest of the community, your posts aren't going to have any impact on how CB do things. And NCO is a common term, it'll be known by anyone who has an interest in the military (i.e. a large majority of players coming to Infinity).
People have pointed out flaws in your opinion, whilst both skills affect the Lt order they have opposite and contradictory effects. In addition, making it level zero will buff Strategos bearers when they're not the Lt, which is contradictory to what I consider the concept of the Strategos rule (these dudes are more awesome than normal at being the Lt). Just because you don't accept the refutations does not mean they are not valid, hence IJW's offer to agree to disagree.
I'm surprised that noone have yet asked it. Can we expect all the trooper who actually have NCO in their name to have NCO skill ? Also was wondering if for example FK will receive it, but then I've realized it's MO I'm talking about...
True about Infiltrate, but I'd say that you want to avoid level 0s like the plague and you don't want to make previous publications invalid when you're strictly adding new expansions to them. Making a new skill makes the most sense, but if the game had been using living rules then I'd say it's more about style whether NCO is NCO, Strategos 1, or Lieutenant X or whichever. Also, dunno if the Swedish word for NCO would've made more or less sense to someone not familiar with British abbreviations. "Specialist officer"
aye ginrei you're not gonna make progress with anyone on this NCO deal so why not ease off for a bit before you come down with a bad case of the kanluwens
Guys you are TOTALLY missing why the NCO skill can't be Strategos level 0. Strategos is for LTs, and that Yadu HMG will do work.
I'm not going to sit here and explain the facts anymore than i already have. I've done so ad nauseam. It's your opinion that my suggestion doesn't make a difference. Your opinion in the face of facts and logic to the contrary. Of course my facts and logic are not going to have any impact on CB. Because those with any influence in the community are supported by lemmings that follow the popular vote. And when those with influence aren't willing to admit simple truths, there is nothing I can do. Just look at this latest response as an example. My solution addresses ALL of these concerns and does nothing the game doesn't already do...but somehow my solutions are ignored. So here we have another post repeating untruths.
That would be nice The thing about opinions is that they are subjective. You mention "facts" but all I have read are more opinions I admire your drive to want to improve the game, and am sure you must have some good ideas, but this one, unfortunately, is a miss
Yeah, he said he wasn't coming with us. sorry i brought up the specter that haunted you for so many years
