Well, I've decided to go Ikari. I haven’t been too happy with the way Vanilla YJ is right now, both story and in game. I was going to do my CA but I don’t think I’m ready for them yet. My theme for them is going to be Pirates and/or Mongol raiders, I don’t like any of the JSA troops so I’m going to be doing a bit of proxies. I also want a rag-tag look to them. I went through my stuff to see how I can do it with spending as little as possible. I’m going to need to go Wu Ming heavy at first because I already play ISS. I also don’t like the Tankos or any of the JSA troops. Going through my old figs, I think I’ve found ways to do it and put old figs to use again! Old figures to new. Hac Tao Missile launcher --> Tanko Rocket. I’m not going to do YJ for a while and I have a feeling they may come out with a new one. 1st edition, Zhanshi --> Keisotsu. Their head scarves make them look even more piratical! 1st ed. Invicible --> Tanko 1st ed. Ko Dali --> Yuan Yuan Aragoto --> Desperados. To eventually be replaced by Kum bikers. Not a fan of the actual Desperados. Sun Tze Sniper --> Armand Le Muet. I already did this for my ISS. HATE the Armand fig. I’ve converted the Sun Tze to have the Spec Op helmet. Figures I need to get: Major Lunah --> Bounty Hunter or Brawler Sniper. Great thing is, I need her for ISS as well. Ayyar --> Brawler. This guy looks awesome and I think is a perfect Brawler or Bounty Hunter. I’m sad the Marksman Rifle is in the Hassasin box set. Acmon --> Bounty Hunter. Another figure I just want because he looks cool. I’m going to try to put a magnet on his back and can magnetize various guns to add to him as needed. I can borrow most of the Haqq and Druze figs but eventually should get my own. I can finally use my Fat Yuan Yuan! I also have had the originals for a long time but not been able to use them. Problems I’m having Trying to come up with a color scheme. I want to use my Wu Ming still with my ISS so I don’t want to change them too much. I don’t want too much of a unifying look to them. They need to look very individual. Some of the figs like the Wu Ming will need to be used in my YJ as well. The Bounty Hunters, not so much. They can stand out from ISS with no Problem. You can always get ShaeKonnit to split a Hassassin Starter and you can just purchase the Ayyar Marksman.
True but the shipping and not having money anyway makes it difficult. Besides, I guess it just makes me be more creative :) I can borrow my buddies Ayyar but I want to get my own anyway.
@Space Ranger As for color schemes is there any color you always wanted to have/try on a miniature force? What colors have you used in your other armies across your miniature gaming career? That might help in winding down the amount of options for you to choose from or you may be reminded of a previous scheme that might fit well for your Ikari force.
I do want different from what I was doing. My ISS and Vanilla I was doing a yin yang look. ISS mostly dark grey's and blacks with Jade Green, vanilla is light grey and whites. Now I want some color. I am thinking now of adding some color to my Wu Ming. Keep the dark grey of the ISS but an accent color that signifies that they are a penal legion.
@Space Ranger Did you know that the color green in China can be seen as meaning infidelity? If someone in ancient China wore a green hat it meant his wife was in an adulterous relationship. Considering Wu Ming being criminals I think any shade of green would be a good color to have on them besides the often used orange for penal prisoners. Green can also mean new beginnings in China which is what the Ikari company gives to those who become a part of it. Your past doesn't matter, only if you can get the job done. Maybe having green being the uniting color for your force is a good idea?
I'm not too stuck on the meaning. I went with green on the ISS because they are under the Emperor and a favorite color ;) If they cared so much about green, it wouldn't be in the symbol. I hope in the future people don't put meaning behind colors any more than in the west, green is lucky and money, red is anger, etc. I was thinking of an orange on the Wu Ming to make them stand out from the group. The rest of Ikari are going to be all over the place. Since I'm thinking of them as nearly pirates, they don't care what color you wear as long as you do what you are supposed to.
That sounds like a plan. Is each model going to be painted different like Brawlers while other units will have a single color scheme? Sometimes when I'm stuck on what colors I should use I turn to culture color meanings. They usually give me an idea or two of what my color scheme could be.
I'm thinking there will be at least one color that will tie them together. But also the bases should all the be the same. I really want to try some different colors. Like my female yuan yuan is going to have pink armor. Ko Dali Yuan Yuan is going to be some bright color too. I'm thinking yellow. Fat YY i'm not sure yet. I'm thinking red. I really want them to stand out. I went to the store yesterday and picked up Acmon for a bounty hunter and the SMG Bashi Bozouk. Acmon, i'm thinking blue and purples.
If you paint any post some pics up. That could help others in determining which colors would work with each other.
imgbb is one you could try. postimage has ads but can be used as well. I would also search around to see what pops up. Instagram might be to your liking.
I played my first game with Ikari last night and it went pretty well Mission Looting and Sabotage vs. QK. I had to change my list a little to do the mission due to the AC units. I took out a Warcore to upgrade the YY's to have DA CCW. I was going up against a Limited list with Janisaries with unconfirmed Hafza, Lylia Sharif, two Al Hawwa and Scareface and Cordelia. This was the first time I've had so many orders with a 5-man pain train! It was awesome. I'm really glad I took the EVO. I went second and used a command token to put Team Pro on them. I'm glad I did because I unfortunately lost the missile launcher when it was my turn. Didn't see a Jan with rocket launcher! Some fun things rolled up on the Booty charts too. Fat YY --> +4 Armor YY --> +2 Armor Bounty Hunter Sniper --> HMG! During play at the Panoplies WM Chain --> Flash Pulse WM HMG --> ADHL WM Multi --> HMG Keisotsu --> ODD! I won because I got more from the Panoplies then him and neither of us could destroy the AC unit. Some progress and stet-backs. I was too excited to work on the ABH bike that I forgot that I wanted to do airbrushing and started on the metal bits. So I'm going to need to re-do it. I also updated my Wu Ming to have the orange shoulder pads. They used to be light grey. They really needed the color!
Well, no luck on my second game with Ikari. Supplies vs. Tohaa. But I've always had a hard time vs. Tohaa. I think out of 20+ games, I've won once and that was a small win. Gotta hate doing the equivalent of 6 wounds (2 missiles) at a Gao Rael and his monster just eating it up! Anyway, the mission was really hard to do without good mid-field troops. I didn't take the Ninja just because he's so dark expensive! Things I learned: 1. A lone Brawler is an obvious Lt. and likely to get killed first turn by an Igao! Starting your first turn in LoL sucks! 2. I need to learn to throw smoke a bit better with the YY. Though admittedly it was fun trying to shoot with a panzerfaust that I got with booty! :) However, throwing smoke on a 17 is better than panzer on a 9. 3. Also, don't blind yourself with the smoke! I was able to cover it from one group of tohaa, forgetting that the Gao Rael was just going to see through it but I was blinded. 4. The guided launcher would have been better. I was actually able to FO, my one point secret mission, the Gao Rael but not then able to use guided because I took the Missile. 5. I need to learn how to use Yojimbo. Yeah, a solitary Brawler seems way too obvious a Lt. ESPECIALLY since they're one of our three only Lt. options ( Druze, Keisotsu ( Which costs 1 SWC so... blech. ) and Brawler. ), so... a single Brawler or Druze without any interesting loadout to it? Tots the Lt.
