So I wanna build a list for Capture & Protect using my latest painted models, which are these: Daylami w. shotgun (could also have a panzerfaust) Daylami w. panzerfaust Daylami w. rifle+light shotgun Govad w. rifle Govad hacker (either killer or basic, or just a shotgun dude I guess) Govad w. missile launcher Govad w. sniper rifle Govad w. HMG Farzan Forward Observer (can proxy as a minelayer, I really prefer that profile...) How would you do it? What exact loadout would you give them, and what more units would you add?
This is why I bought two boxes of Govads. It gives me better flexibility when making a Govad link team.
I tend to set up my Govads as Core or Haris, for long-ranged support fire: Hassassin Bahram ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 3 GOVAD (Fireteam: Haris) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22) GOVAD Missile Launcher, Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 30) GOVAD Sniper Rifle / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 25) 2.5 SWC | 77 Points Open in Infinity Army Alternatively, swap one of these heavy weapons for a HMG. In a Core, I consider an Number 2 a must-have: Hassassin Bahram ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 GOVAD (Number 2) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22) GOVAD Missile Launcher, Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 30) GOVAD Sniper Rifle / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 25) GOVAD HMG / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 29) GOVAD Rifle + Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) 3.5 SWC | 127 Points Open in Infinity Army Of course, two support weapons are enough (one is too few), three is a bit of overkill. Hackers are optional - I tend to consider the Hassassin as having too little in the way of setting up their own Repeater network as to have a Hacker in a Core Fieteam do anything useful 9especially if set up as a defensive Fireteam). They work fine with an aggressive Lt - even if he's down, they still provide you with Regular Orders (thanks to Veteran L1 skill). In such a case there's little point in having a Govad Lt, therefore. BSG Govad (Hacker or not) is of course nice to have if you intend to use the team offensively, especially in house-to-house fighting. Otherwise I consider it to be too short-ranged (and in case you need some close-in firepower, there are the Light Shotguns on your Rifles after all).
Basically what Errhile put up is close to what I use. The only difference is if I was taking a more aggressive Govad team to go press buttons in the Core link, I switch out the Missile Launcher for a Govad with AHD and then the normal Govad for one with a KHD. This is good if you are afraid of Isolation (Usually because you are playing Hunting Party or going against another Haqq player). You have two Specialists to do things for you but still enough range bands to clear your path.
Well, @Envihon , if it works for you, then it is good. I get that you prefer to use the Govads offensively, kind of being better Ghilim. Certainly not a bad idea (I've done that a couple of times myself). My approach is closer to "let's try to have the most use of their Veteran skill (and MSV + long-ranged weapons)", because, after all, we've paid in points for all those attributes (and we don't really have them available elsewhere in HB).
I would like to say that I do the aggressive Govad Core link a lot but they are a great long range link team that they usually are stuck in the back especially with that Missile Launcher. A 5 man link Missile Launcher with MSV1 can solve a lot of problems and it has. I just try to use the Govads more because I feel like they don't get enough credit for how good they are.
After breaking my head trying to find the better govad link for the mission and managing the SWC accordingly, here's what I've got: New guys, fresh paint ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 9 1 GOVAD Missile Launcher, Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 30) GOVAD Sniper Rifle / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 25) GOVAD HMG / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 29) GOVAD Rifle + Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) GOVAD Rifle + Light Shotgun / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) GHULAM Doctor Plus (MediKit) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 16) NASMAT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) FARZAN (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) RAGIK Spitfire / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 32) AL-DJABEL Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Viral CCW, Knife. (0 | 35) GROUP 2 2 5 3 GHULAM Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) GHULAM Lieutenant Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8) DAYLAMI (CH: Limited Camouflage, Inferior Infiltration) Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 8) MUTTAWI'AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) MUTTAWI'AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) MUTTAWI'AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) 6 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army I've tried to use as less proxies as I could and that's why I opted to make a versatile govad core like Errhile posted earlier (sans le nº2, I was short on points). Usually I don't like to build a 5 man team to advance because they are very clunky to move up the table and if I do, I'd try to give them some medium range weaponry (especially in this mission where you have to reach their DZ and come back). A Ragik in this mission is pretty much a must and really shines working in tandem with a Fiday. The Farzan minelayer will try to cover the retreat of the troop who carries a beacon back to your DZ or to defend your beacon area. The Ghilim provide cheap orders for Ghazis to do the legwork and control the midfield, because that's what they do best. The only thing the list lacks is a good Datatracker, the Ragik and Govads use all the SWC, so there's no room for an Asawira haris. Definitely, these challenges are really good food for thought
If the Govad Core is primarily defensive (as I usually play them), I'd drop the Govad HMG. Over long range, Burst 3 shots with a Sniper Rifle will do in active turn (sure, not as good as Burst 5 with a HMG, but if you can't afford both...), and up close you can rely on your rifles and LSGs. It would then free you some SWC and a couple of points to spend on your active troops.
I have to confess, despite your good suggestions, I gave up. I felt the Govads were just so inferior to the Muyib and Ghulam links, that I just proxied my newly painted Govads as a Ghulam link instead. Sad, but...I mean, it has basically the same weapon options, and- a doctor, and trades 1 point of BS and MSV1 for costing half of a Govad... I just can't see the point of Govads, other than the HMG one as a solitary cammo hunter, or if you know you're gonna be facing Ariadna or Steel Phalanx. Perhaps the sniper could be good if you position her behind some trees, so the enemies get terrain mods to hit her, but she can ARO back without penalty due to her visor...but then, again, just take a Ghulam sniper instead and save 9 points...
I'd say - start with a Govad Haris. It'll be a nice long range support for your advancing Core Fireteam.
I would second that. It is a way to use them but keep your Core open. I have been trying different combinations between Muyibs and Govads switching between Core and Haris. Lately, I have been liking the Govads more when I need to eliminate tough targets, if my opponent is a fan of HI especially HI with visual mods. The HMG and Missile Launcher help to level the playing field. Muyibs are great jack of trades but I feel that if there is killing that needs to be done, Govads out class the Muyibs.
I second all that, Govads are better killers than Muyibs, Muyibs are toolboxes, Govads are a Shock army
