I’d like to get some criticism for an upcoming game.

    Mission: Looting & Sabotage, 300pts.
    Vs. PanO

This mission has the two AC units on either deployment line. I need to get someone into CC with it and destroy it with Anti-Material CCW or D-Charges.

    2 Panopolies on either side.

    Primary attackers.
I wanted to go with Hac Tao AHD just because I have the fig and want to use him. I also think he may be one of the few with a DA CCW that can make to the AC unit that needs to be destroyed. Also, I know my PanO player tends to like using the Peacemaker REM. The Hac Tao can both survive the shots from it and can hack it. I debated with myself that I’d take the KHD instead but then I don’t have much to go against anything other than his hackers.

Ninja KHD is his back up. I thought of going with two Ninja’s instead of the Hac Tao.

    Secondary attackers.
These guys are going for the Panoplies and/or defending them.

Le Muet with minelayer. Here’s a mission were his bump up to FD2 is going to be good. I’m going to deploy him on a far side close to a Panoply. And he’s going to have a mine to protect it from anyone coming from the edge.

Guilang Minelayer. Same as above. He may put down more mines or I might just put him on suppression.

Tiger medic. Now here’s a mission were it might be better to deploy him with FD1. If he deploys from the side he will be 12” from the Panoply, if using FD1 he will be about 8” from the Panoply. I think it will depend on the terrain or turn order. He would be great to put into suppression right away.

    Defenders
Zhanying with Madtraps. I love this guy. His sensor will help if he has any camo troops coming to my AC. He will have the Mad Traps already there and then I’ll have the Baggage REM there to give him MORE Madtraps.

Zuyong Lt. It was a toss-up between him and a Zhanying Lt. I like the Zhanying for the Sensor, Sixth Sense etc. but the Zuyong has the ARM and wound and good a good shot.

    TR REM. Enough said.

Mech Engineer is there as a last ditch effort if all else fails but his main job is to fix the TR Bot if needed.

When moving up, do yourself a favour and pick up a D-Charge with the Hac Tao (and preferably one with the Ninja as well). Also, you should probably use the Ninja as the main attack vector for this unless you can save at least 2 orders by having the Hac Tao accomplish other tasks when moving in - the Ninja is just a lot better at destroying this thing than the Hac Tao.

Hac Tao D-Charge: 70% of 1 STR, 40% of 2 STR, 10% of killing it outright
Hac Tao DA CCW: 50% chance of 1 STR, 10% of 2 STR
Ninja D-Charge: 90% of 1 STR, 55% of 2 STR, 15% of killing it outright
Ninja DA CCW with MA2: 62% chance of 1 STR, 16% of 2 STR
(Ninja using MA3 is worse off)

Also, if you change the Zhanying Haris to the Zhanying Sensor (there's literally no difference other than cost between these two profiles) you can afford to give the Zhanshi Gongcheng a Yudbot.

The problem with the HT going for the D-charges is orders. Especially since he will start in my deployment zone. I'm starting to think it might be better to go with a Daofe that can start near a panoply, get d-charges first.

Can someone clear this up? The mission says this below.

    • By succeeding at a WIP Roll, the Specialist Troops can
replace the result of the Booty Chart roll with D-Charges.

Does it mean that first I need to spend an order to do the panoply and then do the Booty. Then make Another roll to replace it with D-charges and does it need another order to do that!?

No, you don't need to succeed two WIP rolls to get the D-Charges, only one.

    That's what I thought. Thanks!

Here's an updated version. I changed the Hac Tao for a Daofe AHD so he can start closer to the Panoply and the AC unit too.

By making this change, it gave me points to upgrade the Zuyong Lt. to the HMG + Automedkit!

From the mission, I'm a little confused by the wording of the D-charges part. Given that the earlier bullet point implies that you don't get the result on the Booty chart until after you pass the skill check, why do you not need to pass an additional WIP check to get D-charges instead?

"By succeeding at a WIP Roll, a trooper can make a Roll
on any of the Booty Charts to obtain one weapon or piece
    of equipment."

"By succeeding at a WIP Roll, the Specialist Troops can
replace the result of the Booty Chart roll with D-Charges."

It'd definitely be better to just roll WIP and grab some D-charges. Is it because of how the bullet points are laid out?

The main problem with AC unit is not that its tough and takes order to destroy, but its the troopers defending it that will shoot you while you try to kil the AC.
That said, if you can managed to deploy smoke onto the enemy AC unit, your CC trooper is much more likely to survive while trying to kill the AC, unless your opponent is smart enough to put some MSV2 unit in supression fire next to it.
I would also go with the Hac Tao, because it can survive more shots than the Ninja.

As for defence, assume that your opponent uses some fast and cheap unit (like Auxilias) to remove your madtraps and than go for the AC unit.
As this is pano, they cannot simply deploy smoke and destroy it. Putting troopers in supression fire next to your AC is nice.

To maximize your points, you need to Destroy (as in, make four hits) the AC2 with your Datatracker. Datatracker should be a non-marker model, so relying on non-marker Ninja to loot some d-charges and survive for more than 1 turn is tricky. With this in mind, the best choice of AC2 destroyer is Crane Agent - that dude has 22 CC, MA3 and necessary DA CCW. Also, he can use LT order to advance if enemy deployment allows you to do the job in one turn - before giving it to Hac Tao, where it would be safe.

Hac Tao, Krakot and Kanren (provided she gets D-charges out) are all back-up plans if Crane gets eliminated before making a run.
Smoke helps a lot to hit the AC2 in peace.

In my game last tournament, Hac Tao eliminated ARO; turn 2 Crane made a run under the smoke by CG, did three wounds on AC2, then Hac Tao finished the job on turn 3. Kuang Shi and Monks defended flanks against droptroops, Lunah on the long range ARO game.
    ---

I like the Hac Tao hacker plan - maybe even deploy him without a marker to make him the Datatracker... Your opponent would probably run Hospitalier or Krakot or maybe even Joan as his AC2 killer, so you need a plan to stop them - TRbot would help, but Swiss or Hexa will eliminate it in a single order. Have an assault hacker ready.

I would advise against TR, it underperforms in single group - maybe try Major Lunah?
Guilang minelayer is good, but a madtrap unit would be better - especially Xi Zhuang. It would force opponent to tank adhesive hits when he gets to AC2, at the risk of immobilizing up in the field - or dodging and taking a hacker ARO (park Guilang or sneaky kanren nearby).

It is a tough misssion for a single group list, so make sure you advance on the first turn while clearing ARO and go for kill on 2nd.

There's only two guys with smoke in YJ and they are both likely to be killed before being able to do much. Mainly because I expect him to take Nisse and maybe even an Aquila. He also has a lot more DA & EXP CCWs, more D-Charges than me too. He doesn't really need to go for the Panoplies at all. So I need to buff up the defense a bit more.

Damn YJ kinda sucks at this mission. Only 2 guys that come with D-charges and most of the anti-material CCW guys will start in my deployment. While he has 6 and one of them with Infiltration and ODD! Not to mention a lot of CCWs and TAGs.

So I had a practice game with @WolfofWinter. I tried out the Daofei list but I modified it a bit. I decided I needed a lot more orders so I took the obligatory Kuang Shi / Celestial. I did end up needing them tough. Fortunately I won the roll to go first. Unfortunately since I set up first, I lost all but one Kuang shi to a Nisse sniper one by one as they used their Impetuous orders on the first turn.

The stars of the game I think were the Guilang minelayers, the Zhanying with madtraps, and the Ninja. The mines either kept him from getting too close or he had to waste orders discovering and destroying them. The madtraps did the same thing. As I planned, I had the Zhanying move out the madtraps and set them to Stand-by mode. The Baggage bot then re-supplied madtraps! I had six of them at one point! I made sure to try to place them in such a way that every time someone moved they would have to dodge a madtrap. So not all of them were going at once.

The Daofei started right next to a panoply prone but I didn’t do the panoply soon enough. I used the last order of the turn and failed my roll! Once I did get the d-charge out of it I hoofed it to the AC unit but had a lot of guys to fight to get it.

Finally in the last turn, I moved the hidden ninja up from right in the center of the table. He at least had to discover him first. He was discovered but I was able to move behind the AC unit. I then CC’d it and caused 2 wounds on it. He was hit with a Heavy flame thrower but managed to make his armor save! I then destroyed it with the last order of the game for me! Should have done it first turn!

Sounds like a fun game, thanks for posting about it. Very fun to hear about your antics with the madtraps. (I love those things.)

This is a quite difficult scenario and I always regret not just going straight for the enemy AC unit when I have the opportunity. (One game I did much the same as you and chose not to just send the ninja straight for the AC and hack at it till it goes down.) I do think that TAGs are worth a look here because their fists count as anti-material if I recall correctly and it's one of our best shooters. Also supports the Kuang shi boat if you're good with placement. As its bulk can block line of sight to them when going first. It can at least prevent the kind of lemming march that you described in your game.

I had to learn that TAGs have PH-2 when they fight Bare-Handed. Thus our TAG has one Attack on a 19 with DAM15 against ARM8 of the AC. Not the best odds.

That's what I thought. It applies Anti-Material but not something like DA.

DA with Martial Arts Level 2 (+3 PH) worked just fine. The Crane Agent and Ninja have the best chance of wounding the AC unit in CC because they have DA with MA L3. Otherwise a D-Charge is of course the best.

One thing I realized was that the Daofei acted as a good distraction. He might move guys to go after him, so the Ninja can move up.

I was not trying to say our TAG was amazing at beating up the AC unit, just that is was an option. It's relevant that damage 15 is the same as a ninja using MA2, albeit without the benefits of DA and there is a chance of failure for the tag. I wouldn't call it good but it's an option and a TAG has many other uses. Our best guy for slicing up the AC is the Crane but Ninja are the easiest to get there and nearly as good.

Please don't let this derail the thread though as it's a trivial matter.

Daofei are great and I love using them in a lot of missions. This one isn't ideal though.

Well the actual battle is tonight for this mission. I changed up the list a bit since then. I've decided on 2 Ninja! If I can I'll use Coordinated orders to bring them both up. Adding a Krakot just for the fun of it, as well as Aida Swanson. I think she will be great for going to the Panoplies. She can mine it as well as directly get D-Charges if needed due to her Scavenger skill.

Yu Jing for the Win! 10-1

2 Ninjas was definitely the way to go. I deployed them hidden near the center of the table. Turn 2 I moved both a bit closer. then used a Command token so that if he decided to discover it could only be one of them. It's good I did two because I had to throw one in the path of a mine to get rid of it. Luckily I made the doge. The other ninja with the way open put a single wound on the AC unit. then in his turn, they both managed to make all of their dodges against an Auxbot HFT! Eventually one of them went down but in my turn 3 i destroyed it.

I thought I was making a huge mistake at first. I lost the initiative and had to go second. I then decided to set up first! There were spots I wanted and wanted him to react to me. Not the other way. It seemed to work well.
