How many of you are planning to play Foreign Company mainly because of the "Rule of Cool"? I feel like most of the people who are interested in the Foreign Company seem to be so because they like the Idea of playing a "A Team knockoff", or love the way Valkyrie looks like that chick from Police Academy, or love Deadpool Massacre, and/or especially love the look of many of its models like the Securitate, Überfallskommando and the likes. It seems to be more of a case of "I love the Models/Fluff/Idea" and less a case of "Damn that's some fine Rules they've got there, I can't wait to murder everyone with Nasty Combo X and Brutal Unit Z.." Or am I mistaken, and you guys actually are here because of the Rules this Army brings to the table or its particular play style (like I feel is more the case with some other armies out there)? Because I mean....wouldn't it be kind of cool (and frankly interesting to see) if the Foreign Company turned out to be the Faction of Fluff/Nostalgia Lovers and Beautiful Model Enthusiasts instead of hard number crunchers and Min-Maxers? (Not that I think those are exclusive, but you know, motivations n stuff). Let me know what interests you in playing Foreign Company!
Well, in my case it's the "PanOceanian" NA2 army. So of course I'm here. And I'll find some ways to make it work.
The main reason why I actually started playing Foreign Company, was because I found out that I already had the majority of the models and I only needed to get a couple of extra models. After seeing it appear on army, I was oke. This looks nice. It has some interesting link options. After playing my first game with them, (400 points Annihilation for a coming escalation tournament) I quite like the play style. It has some nice shooting pieces, Valkyrie, Massacre and Überfallkommando are deadly in CC and being able to advance up the board with eclipse grenades is pretty great.
Can't vote, cause my answer is not given. You get a Kriza, two Zeros, one Croc Men, Überfallkommando, White Noise and many Veterans L1
Added the "Already had most of the models anyways" Option :-P Totally forgot that was a natural reason as well since I actually had almost none of the Models.
Foreign Company is a really cool idea, and I love PanO working with Nomads. it's just that.... their rules..... they're oh so very bad. I was pretty excited for this NA2 force to come out during the hype week, I even pre-painted up some minis, but looking at the rules, I'm really underwhelmed. I'm really struggling to write a list I'm satisfied with, everyone ends up being like 12 orders with no MSV.
I think there are decent lists in foreign company, but they probably ignore the characterful merc options in favour of just mashing together zeroes, croc, Kriza, a mixed core and a haris of some description.
That seems like what I'm seeing too. Now, a way to possibly better use my favorite Tunguska unit isnt a total loss.
Yeah, this kind of thing: Foreign Company ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 SECURITATE HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 21) SECURITATE Feuerbach / Pistol, Knife. I am honestly baffled by the Securitate/CSU core... since there are no wildcards, this is old school design, who is to benefit from the 5 man link bonuses... And yeah, I know it sounds absurd, since a year ago this would've been a normal thing...
I've been a bit underwhelmed with this wave of na2 to be honest. I dunno what it is but I just can't get excited about the new forces. I was all over ikari when they first dropped but I dunno, I think the new hotness of these collaboration forces has worn off for me. I'll try foreign a few times as I own nearly the full lot anyway, see how they do on the table.
This sectorial has some really cool flavour but is pretty weaksauce. Can't understand why they have given the last ten sectorials some kind of wildcard but these guys don't even get one.
You are quite mistaken, theres a couple of parrallel design philosopies running on the fireteam front. Recently Ikari, JSA and druze do not use wildcards, Ive got a feeling Tunguska dont either. Some sectorials have very flexible link options (dashat, ASS, 'Tohaa'). Some sectorials have very rigid, mostly impractical options (Ikari, USA) Vanilla factions have duo at extremely high resource cost and sometimes psuedo link options like puppeteer/antipode I think this is a good way of differentiating factions, and thats very important with mercenary factions where mixed availability could cause balance issues with the factions those 'loan' units come from.
This looks very much like PanO's take on Tunguska. For some reason it doesn't really end up looking very PanO or Tunguska at all. You get the shooting and the Hacking, but also Eclipse, CC Troops, Lt security and a reasonable amount of Orders and cheap bodies. Foreign Company ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 KRIZA BORAC HMG / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 12) ZERO (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) MULEBOT (Minesweeper, Repeater) Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) GROUP 2 4 3 1 BAKUNIN ÜBERFALLKOMMANDO . (0 | 24) CHIMERA Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Viral CCW. (0 | 21) x3 PUPNIK DA CCW. (0 | 3) ZERO (Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 3) 5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army It's not broken, but you can get a list that works pretty well.
I notice people aren't taking the repeater Securitate. Without having played Tunguska myself is it a liability or is it just points preventing it.
The more I look at it, the more I think if I mostly ignore the SOF characters FC is a Tunguska I can make work better for me. Uberfall, Zeros over Hecklers, CSU in securitate, still get Hacking+. Peacemaker. The more I think I kinda like it.
I think it is points preventing it. I like the repeater Securitate in Tunguska and here. You can counter all kinds of MSV with the repeater in combination with a linked HMG/MSR and White Noise from Laxmee or Interventor in Tunguska.
It's pretty much the same for me. I think that overly restrictive links are a mistake - I didn't get into DBS exactly because of that - but the whole sectorial should work rather well. I'm looking forward to trying Laxmee/Kaplan Haris, ORC/Awicenna/Valkyrie Core, and Nomad units in general.
I've come up with a list that almost really nails it for me. Nice spread of specialists and deployment types, great hacking/repeater network, decent anti-cam tools, good shooters, etc. Foreign Company ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 SECURITATE HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 21) SECURITATE Feuerbach / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 22) SECURITATE Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) CSU Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) CSU Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) CSU Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) LAXMEE Hacker (UPGRADE: Maestro) Submachine Gun + Pitcher, Cybermines, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 34) KAPLAN Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 28) KAPLAN Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle, Blitzen / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) VALKYRIE Heavy Shotgun, Grenades / Heavy Pistol, EXP CC Weapon. (0 | 35) GROUP 2 5 BRAWLER (Multispectral Visor L2) MULTI Sniper / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 28) ZERO (Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) ZERO (Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) FUGAZI DRONBOT Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) PATHFINDER DRONBOT Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) 5 SWC | 303 Points Open in Infinity Army BUT..... it's three points over. I thought I really hit it with this one but apparently I have to work it a little more. I'm not sure what I want to drop. Getting rid of the deployable repeaters would seem to really hamstring Laxmee, I should probably have a doctor, there's no other LT options..... I feel like I'm so close to finally liking a list...
