Beyond Icestorm is in its way to my mailbox! Yay! Now, I’m deciding if I leave him with the Mk12, or try to give him a MultiRifle. I’ve heard the Mk12 is kind of a dud, but the Kriza makes it more like a Fatality L1 Spitfire for 0 SWC in the active turn. That actually doesn’t sound too bad when I put it that way, and he still gets alternative ammo for the SMG. On the other hand, the Kriza can pretend he’s an Alguacil at the 16-32” range with a MultiRifle, and gain the DA ammo for the reactive turn.
Since been was the MK12 a dud weapon? (effectively a) DAM 15 Marksman rifle for 0 SWC is super neat, probably one of the best 0 SWC weapons due to its excellent rangeband and hitting like a freight train. Plasma/viral/T2 rifles hit harder but aren't able to outrange other common weapons like the MK12 is giving a significant advantage in a lot of F2F rolls.
Let me correct myself, what I’ve heard is that the Mk12 Kriza is a “bad loadout”. I figured it was the weapon that was percieved as bad, but when I looked at it, it compares favorably to a Mimetism, Fatality L1 Spitfire carried by any other model. Is there an argument to run the Multirifle over thw Mk12?
Ah, gotcha. I think the dislike of the MK12 is the fact it pays a lot for the 360 visor, which is amazing in Suppression Fire, but Full Auto doesn't stack with SuppFire any more. A full 10 points over the HMG, or 14 over the multi rifle is a significant extra investment, and while having an ammo type for every occasion (shock/AP/DAM15) and +3 to hit, burst 4, from 0-24" is incredibly flexible, I'm not sure it really justifies the cost of a whole extra order.
HMG. Really, there is no reason to use any other Kriza. It is a beatstick - probably the best one you are bringing ( because it is one of the best ones in the game). Not giving him a good weapon is gimping him. HMG costs 4 points more than a MULTI, with 2 extra SWC. SWC is well spent on your main attacking pieces, and 4 points extra is not that much to pay for having a HMG instead of a rifle. The DA on ARO hardly ever matters - Kriza should be in suppressive on your reactive turn, and probably in total cover in all but the last round. Mk12 is a terrible problem, tbh. It is just *way* more expensive than the HMG, for a inferior weapon ( same damage, B3 instead of 4). The 360 visor is.... ok. It is most useful on the reactive turn - and we estabilished that the best place for a Kriza at that point is not being targeted. The smg sounds ok until you realize you can do almost the same with a heavy pistol, and having a Kriza at ideal smg range means it is too close to being in melee with something. It doesn't cost SWC, yes, but if not in a Kriza, where are you spending your SWC?
I don't know too why you ask, if you should take the "bad" or the "very bad" loadout. I'll take the HMG all the time. If you don't have the SWC left, take the Mk12. I would never take the Multi Rifle.
mk12 makes a great early game turret turn late game beatstick. it also packs a SMG which with FA2 dominates CQC when clearing out skirmishers.
The Mk12 loadout is categorically better. +3 out to 24" is really important and it makes all the difference to keep a Kriza moving forward. His 360 visor is really expensive, but it's hard to regret making a pusher like Kriza un-flankable. A multi-rifle just isn't strong enough a weapon to put in his hands. With that said, HMG is better than both and Mk12 really only has a home in Tunguska lists with lots of sniper rifles.
The 360 visor is useful but not really worth the cost. Your really want the superior burst of the HMG. And remember, the extra burst from full auto will effect his heavy pistol so you can use that up close.
Compare and contrast with the Gecko, on which Mk12 is a great weapon since it keeps the TAG budget while still giving him great stopping power (especially with Ironclad in ITS) and frees up SWC for other units. However Gecko is more of an extra than the main attacker like Kriza.
The only time I ran the multi was when I ran the Haris team for giggles(and laziness as 3 models account for majority of points), my hmg died to a lucky T2 Crit and the multi ended up doing work on a voulenteer/grey fireteam...I was thoroughly destroyed but that Kriza was mvp that game.
360 visor has not only saved my Kriza several times (even with good defensive placement), it lets me place the model more freely without needing a back-to-back situation or another model covering it's blindspots. it has also actively, by their admission, denied my opponent options in all but one game (because TO guys are jerks). Like a sniper/TR that never shoots, but still massively impacts the opponent's game. Those less tangible bonuses really add up and always come up in our AARs. Also, the mk12 is an almostHMG that lets you take an HMG(or other swc weapon) elsewhere. To answer the OP though. I love Multis and have tried to make it work on a Kriza a couple times...it just ends up turning into "I wish this was a mk12 with 360".
Now, I might be a biased idiot here ( This is a topic about an HI unit, after all. ), but I'd probs take the Mk12 over a MULTI almost all of the time. Almost. Unless you have really goddamn dense corridor tables. But even then the SMG exists on the Mk12. Still, it is basically a FAT1 Spitfire on the Kriza, as you've said, and Spitfire are nice. T: >Gecko >Weakest TAG ever Sir, I do not wish to sound like a broken clock, but the Anaconda Spoiler And by Anaconda I mean Guijia does exist you know.
After this ITS season they should errata the Gecko to have Fatality Lvl1 permanently. Most fun I’ve ever had playing the Gecko this ITS. As for the Kriza, it depends on what role you are planning to use it in. If I am planning locking down the center board and using the rest of my list to win, I will take the Mk12 solo and use 360 visor to make him as big a pain to deal with as possible. If I am planning on using it as my go kill things piece, I am running an HMG+ multi Harris to go run around and kill things.
ITS X is thw second time they are allowing the Ironclad rule, so i think it is on the road to being permanent. And the only reasonwhy the mk 12 kriza is lackluster is because of pts cost. if it was 5 pts cheaper it would be in more lists.
The HMG is by and large the best loadout on the Kriza. I would say the MK12 is good when you're short on SWC, but where the hell else would you be spending your SWC rather than on what is possibly the best attack piece in the nomad arsenal? The multirifle loadout I would never even consider

Really? You are doubling there options for your list and most of the time you have a better alternative for fewer costs in SWC and points then the Kriza. Prowler SF -> Heckler RF
I've had numerous times during games when I would've been better off with Mk12, but I brought the HMG; but it's just bad playing on my part. The HMG still holds its own in close with burst 3 heavy pistol though.
