Hey everybody. I'm considering placing an order in coming months from Warsenal, having previously bought a couple of buildings from them & really liking the build quality. Problem is they're based in the US & I'm in the UK where I'm having a devil of a time working out likely import charges. Assorted sites found via Google are no help at all in calculating likely costs & I really want to avoid a charge so huge that I can't afford it before the time limit runs out & my goods are returned to sender. Has anyone imported from the US? If so what are the charges likely to be? I'm probably looking at spending enough to qualify for free shipping which I believe is $250.00. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.
At a minimum, you're likely to be paying 20% VAT, plus a processing fee. There may be Import duties on top of that, though.
https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty Essentially you'll be hit for VAT (20% IIRC) customs duty (~2.5% by my reading) plus an admin fee (varies by courier/delivery method). The amount is usually also based on the total of product cost + shipping cost, not just the cost of the merchandise. (even if shipping is not charged to you it might still be included in duty calculation)
I vaguely remember an admin fee of some sort last time (a few years back now) so that plus vat at 20% plus 2.5% duty gives me something to work with. Thanks guys. I could not for the life of me pin down the duty percentage. A bulk order at least should qualify me for free shipping. I feel an email to warsenal coming on to clarify who they use for delivery.
Even if the shipping doesn't cost you anything, it still has a price and duty will be charged on it. For example, if it is delivered by DHL and they charge £100, you'd pay £20 in VAT.
