So the requirements of the mission, plus the matchup, put some interesting parameters in place. My opponent was very, very well equipped to succeed at the mission, which is actually quite tough. You can't just slap d-charges on the target... You need to hit them with the CC Mode for using d-charges, which means that most of my troops are going to struggle with that thanks to their relatively low CC values. My opponent though, with all those morlocks, jaguars, etc. plus some infiltrating types was quite well equipped for the task if he could just get them across the table. But that's just the nature of Vanilla vs Sectorial.

    Thoughts from the game:

    1. My opponent opted to go first, so I got a good look at his deployment. The first thing that struck me is the sheer range of options that DBS could apply, as far as opening moves.

For example: The Interventor LT was hiding up on a roof, pretty inaccessible... But not for an E/M LGL. Was it worth deploying my link opposite his LT, and going for Loss of Lieutenant?

Or was it better to stand off at extreme range using the Clipper and Brawler sniper for table control?

Or to push up aggressively in the middle, angling to get those chain colts/viral pistols/brawler light shotguns into the DZ?

There was a huge range of options. Ultimately I went for the strong ARO option, because my table side had a very dominant vantage point that would let me cover both Panoplies plus my own objective with the MSV2 Sniper.

    2. Hunzakuts:

Most discussion I see around this unit is "yeah fine, except they're Irregular."

I think that's pretty silly. You're going to be spending Orders on these every turn, and getting such a great unit for less than 20 points is obscene.

When you think about it too, that Druze Core link is almost never going to be in a position to kill with maximum effect. It's just too slow. So when you evaluate a Sectorial like DBS, you're not evaluating the mainstay Mediumn Infantry link... You're evaluating the secondary units, the support units, that are going to be out there doing most of your work for you, and receiving most of your Orders. That's where the Hunzakuts come in. They received something like 80% of my Orders this game, and they performed beautifully. WIP14 to Intuitively deploy mines, Deployable Repeaters if something should be Hacked, and... Camo light shotguns!

So they did well, surviving the midfield dual with opposing Skirmishers, holding off some REM and Warband attacks, shotgunning down some opposition, then one of them snuck to my opponent's console to trip multiple Koalas so the other could run in with some looted d-charges and do some damage. Great unit.

    3. Saito

So naturally, using him to kill the console was the crux of the plan. But on Turn 1, I had my opponent's TR REM ended a second MOV within combi range of Saito, so I revealed and took the show to hopefully neutralize my opponent's big gunfighting threat. Saito pulled it off, before pulling every nearby Chain Rifle wielder near him like a moth to a flame. He did go down to a Chain Rifle eventually, but was so good at attracting opposing attention that I was happy to have revealed him. Admittedly this is the least useful role for him, but revealing him was helpful in letting me get table dominance, preserving my MSV2 Sniper who provided critical overwatch all game.

Next up will be to try a more general, less specialized mission. I missed having a Doctor this game, but I'm not sure yet if the 20 points on that Brawler Doctor are a good investment. I'm not bothered by WIP12... Honestly I do a lot of healing as a PanO player, and a list with so many defensive pieces and critical 1 Wound midfield pieces really likes having a Doctor as well. So I'll tinker a bit more with list design here.

On a related note, the Spec-Ops for Druze is interesting.

With a Brawler as a base unit, you can add some pretty nifty things.

Highlights for include the viral weapons (pistol, rifle, sniper rifle), and sapper!

With the low WIP of the Brawler Spec op it seems like a good investment to sink either all points into it to make a toolbox specialist (hacker is pretty cool, cause he already has some BTS) or nothing and get the viral sniper sapper or something other in that vein.

The problem is that Sapper costs 8xp. So ho you're left with only 4xp guns. Contender and Panzerfaust. :(

I'll likely do the boosted WIP Specialist or just a boosted BS Viral Sniper. You can go BS14 with one point left for Specialists Operative or a fancy pistol.

Got in a game of Acquisition with the list below versus a 10 order MO list with a Santiago/Magister link.

It was a pretty rough match up for MO. The Magister ML lost the duel with the Clipper and later on Joan got crit by an EM nade.

This game reinforced how important it is to have redundant core fireteam members in the same battlegroup as the Fireteam. It allows some flexibility at deployment and can keep the link reinforced when it starts taking losses. I am liking the Core + duo in group one format for my lists.

On a related note, my Druze fly through command tokens. Man I wish Arslan could have Advanced Command.

Free Agent would have been a nice little gimmick for Arslan as well. ;)
