I'm honestly kinda scratching my head about fireteams in Starmada - core teams, in particular.

Not including the wildcard characters of Parvati, Shona and Hector in the heavier ones, we've basicly got:

    Kappas ( +Bluecoats, +PSI-Cop, +Tian Gou)
    Bluecoats ( +Bronze, +PSI-Cop, +Tian Gou)
    Nyoka ( +Bronze, +PSI-Cop, +Tian Gou)
    Betatroopers (Bronze, +PSI-Cop, +Tian Gou)

All of them seem pretty solid, but there's no clear winner, and there's some definate cross-over in roles and capabilities.

At the moment I'm leaning towards a Beta core with Parvati, but curious to hear what other people are thinking.

for active turn Kappas/Coats + Psi cop Multi marksmen probably takes the cake.

Kind of stunted on what to do for ARO. best i can come up with for cost effectiveness in a kappa missile launcher? not very sturdy and feels kind of dated.

imho the heavy infantry find themselves alot more comfortable as a haris option.

The Hector Parvati Bronze Betatrooper link is almost certainly unplayable at 233 points.

I feel like Betas will be best in a Haris to take advantage of their mobility in the midfield.

Nyokas and Kappas are the only option for long range weapons in core links, I feel like a Nyoka core is probably the best way to bust out of your own DZ. The HRL is a tempting pick. For utility I’d probably pick the Kappa link, stuff it with Bluecoats and the Psicop MSV1 Multi MMR. Have a spare member so when the ML bites it you can reform up to 5 and go on the offensive.

Starmada has a real problem with shooting past 24”. Varangians can help you get safely out of deployment but if there’s a Kamau you may be in trouble. I feel like the Epsilon with smoke support is going to be the cheapest and most versatile pick on breaking ARO pieces. Except for linked MSV snipers...

There’s not a good defensive link option either. I feel like Starmada cedes control of the game for turn 1 and then takes it back when ranges are shorter in turn 2-3.

Have a feeling that Cyberghosts are going to be very important for Starmada.

I played with 2 HRL Nyoka + RF Bronze + MSV1 MMR PSI-Cop + KHD Tian Gou (looking like another Bronze Paramedic) this week end. I am not sure if I would recommend it and did not get much work out of it as the Zeta got most of the orders.
I like the blue coats but it lakes long range fire power compared to the Nyoka. I feel the Betas work out to be to high. If you are after a castle link just go with Kappas, yes the others have better bs but they lack the guns for a castle link or come out to high. If you want to split the difference Nyoka are probably the best but will cost a bit more points even with out a Bronze, but they have a damage 16 HMG or 15 HRL blast.
I wish the Nyoka art looked better. Not a cobra commander fan but I will just use Yadus (not like they are playable in Aleph).

As for hector in a link, I am debating it because if you shoot for 10 orders he frees up a slot else where.
Pavarti is iffy it depends on how everything else shacks out in the list for me.

I feel that a MSV1 MMR PSI-Cop is probably the best salt in to most links fallowed by a Blue Coat ADL.

I'm far from having a definite opinion about fireteams' composition. I'm testing viable combinations right now.

The profiles that drives the link selection are:
    Kappa MSR, HMG or ML
    Nyokas HMG or HRL
    Betatrooper Spitfire

    My favorite "guests" are:
    Bluecoats, ADL or Red Fury
    Tian Gou, hacker, or jammer/grenades
    PSI-COp, MSV MMR

I personally don't like to include Parvati in link teams (a hairs of Beta could bee a costly exception), nor Shona Carano.

Both Kappas and Nyokas can form a diverse and flexible Core Team. I prefer to build them for long range support, since Starmada seems fitted to short to medium range. That's why I don't like to include Hector, who si better with a Beta Haris (or Nyoka Haris).

Can you form a core and an ENOMOTARCHOS with Hector?

Starmada has no option to create an Enomotarchos Fireteam

Nuoka + Bronze + Parvati seems a Specialist overkill, but i think could work pretty well

Hector can join a core of Kappas, Nyokas or Betatrooper.
It actually has an entry “Fireteam: Enomotarchos”, but it doesn’t apply to Starmada.
I believe it applies to Steel Phalanx, since we are sharing Hector with that Aleph sectorial.

Where do you see Hector can join a Kappas link? I wish it were so...but can't see it on Army or sectorial charts...

You are right. My mistake, he can actually join cores of Nyokas and Betatroopers.

Since Nyokas are lacking MSRs and MLs, i can't quite square them with the idea of a core fireteam, but being the glue holding together a smaller team does have some potential.

Would consider a Core of 3 and a Haris, two kill squads moving up alternate flanks perhaps.

The main reason to take a Nyoka core is they're way cheaper than Betatroopers and thus you can run a Hector core to get him the +3BS

That cheap HRL works well with him too.

    I'm considering something like this:
    Fireteam A:
    Nyoka Heavy Rocket Launcher
    PSI-Cop MSV1 with MMR
    PSI-Cop with Combi Rifle

    Fireteam B:
    Betatrooper with Spitfire + tinbot
    Betatrooper KHD with SMG
    Parvati

Crusher Parachutist with BSG + Panzerfaust
    Saladin LT
    Cyberghost Hacker with HD+
    Andromeda with SMG and Infiltration

    Army code:
    g+oIc3Rhcm1hZGEVTWF5YmU/IFRvIHN0YXJ0IHdpdGg/gSwBAQoAhecBAgAAhfsBAwAAgxQBBQAAhbYBAQAAhegBBAAAhf8BAQAAhbABAwAAhbABBAAAhf4BAQAAhecBAQA=

At least as a starting point for N4 anyway.
Saladin allows for some silly over-the-top stuff like using a command token to hold back 3 reserves and deploy a whole fireteam last.

I've always been a fan of aggressive play. It does sometimes present problems against better opponents, or certain lists which counter well. But whilst we wait to see how N4 evolves, I'm going to be going for Hector leading a fireteam. I'm not sure he's that worth his points. Plasma with circular impact template looks good, but the only way I can see Hector taking out a TAG is getting to combat. He's also a massive target in the list, generating 3 regular orders and being the real strong leader of the link.

List was created based on the rule of cool to play a game of N4 Supplies from the rulebook (link to Army7 at the bottom). I don't think it will end up being our most competitive option.

Hector with plasma leads a five man core which includes:
    Psi-cop +3 discover | Biometric Visor
    Parvati
    Bronze (Specialist) Multi Rifle
    Betatrooper (KHD)

Kytta flash bot gives me a cheap order, and then I have an Epsilon MSR to hold down the fort, Varangian is his smoke machine and lastly, a Crusher, Forward Deployment SMG will cover my advance, be around to take a supply box and go into suppression if I am taking the second turn.

The theory of the link is that they can advance, they can all take a box and do mission objectives. Everything except the psi-cop has to take at least two wounds to die. The Bronze and Hector are obviously the hard workers. The Bronze can duel TAGs with his combination of AP from the multi rifle and total immunity ignoring any scary explosive ammo coming back.

The Psi-cop is not there as a duellist really, but to help me get out of a bind if I have someone sneaking up on me. I'm not sure I really need it, and I might consider changing to either a Tian Gou, saving 2 points and letting me squeeze in a warcor, or adding 1 point and taking the MSV1 option.

Parvati is pretty obvious why she is there - so many points in the link, and she can heal everyone. Hector is pretty scary being able to go from V:NWI to full wounds, and the Bronze too - just when you thought he was out! Of course, she's also Burst 5 with her SMG in the link, which at a push is a high burst AP weapon against high armoured targets up close.

Finally, the Betatrooper who also has an SMG is taken in KHD guise, protecting the HI in the link. Couple with Hector's tinbot - it is a pretty reasonable defensive hacking package. The only issue will be keeping him in the right place to be of best use.

I'll report back once I've had the first game.

Yeah, true - I liked having that second specialist who's not necessarily the msv guy, but you're right - could just as easily take a second HRL :)
