Friend of mine has amazing sucess with cutters in pano, i used to use onis in this faction to deal with it but i was just wondering what everyone recommends as the best way the faction has to deal with this menace?
Mines, kanren mad traps kuang shi and monks, for deployement zone defence, in active turn hsien, rui shi.l, flaymer, grenade launcher. Best way to stop him, waste his orders on cheap worthless units, warcors, snipers bounty hunters, monks, holoehos. Imho, i have more troubles with mucmurov and tohaas beasts
Played with some caution, a Lu Duan can be a reasonable counter. It's got MSV1 so it can negate some of the TO penalties in a firefight. As a rem, it can also be boosted with support programs to give it marksman to help negate cover. More importantly though you've got a flamer and a repeater. If you can get to within 8 inches that puts the Cutter in rock and a hard place situation. If it shoots you, you can flame it and burn off its camo, the odds aren't the best for the Lu Duan surviving, but the dice could favor you. If it dodges, maybe it fails and it gets the flamer anyway, but even if it succeeds, if you're positioned correctly, it's still in repeater range and is now vulnerable to your hackers. If the Lu Duan is relatively safe from other enemy models, you can just leave it there and spend your orders elsewhere, because when it becomes your opponents turn, if he activates the Cutter, you can ARO flame him with the Lu Duan and ARO hack him with your hackers, which means somebody is going to be unopposed regardless of what the Cutter does.
get in close, cutters no longer rock a DTW which leaves them pretty badly exposed if you can close up inder hte 16 range band, even rifles can start threatening them at that range and warbands will tear them apart. Other than that, Good Spec fire/guided and Hacking are otherways of bypassing the cutters strengths
Upon further thought I have a few more suggestions: Triangulated fire from a crane, though that's not as optimal. Smoke N Shoot from a Hsien or Rui Shi (or even just regular shoot). The ol CC hug and slap: instead of outright murdering it, tie it up with a CC unit it's unlikely to defeat. It may still provide an order, but while it's engaged it can't do anything else. Ninja are good for this because of the ambush factor and ease of getting into engagement. If well managed or if your opponent over extends monks can be a good option too, though you'll be forced to fight him at least once a turn with your monk's impetuous order. The optimal scenario is that your opponent spends his orders making opportunities to get out of CC.
The caveat to the hug and slap is if there are any sensor bots on the table. A triangulated fire into combat avoids the downsides of shooting into combat and your unit can't even dodge.
If you can, get Lu Duan close by to use its Heavy Flamethrowers or to use it as a repeater to hack it. Using HFT on it strips it of its greatest strength and makes it a weaker Squalo. On the other hand, you can hack it and make it run amok on his own army.
Thanks to the clarification for Bit and Kiss, if you take the minelayer Guilang he can start the game with a repeater deployed. Place it right and you just locked down a portion of the board before the game starts- No PanO player wants to walk a 115 point t tag within backing range.
I was expecting this thread to have an image of a Cutter which was smashed on the floor... Or under a hammer! But the Sat-Lock + Guided/Speculative is always going to be dangerous.
Kill it with fire. Or at least to burn off the TO camo. Then it's a significantly less-dangerous Squalo. So, Lu Duan or Tigers and then anti-TAG weapons of choice. I'm fond of the Yan Huo HRMC. Alternatively, a Su Jian can do the trick by itself.
Since Cutter is run only in vanilla atm, the opponent is unlikely to run really scary defense - once you get rid of Nisse that counters your smoke you are free to swarm and outflank him. If he hides in total cover and marker state in DZ, then kill Auxilias so he can't do the mission and put buffed Rui Shi in Supressive fire somewhere near his half. I find Swiss Guard more difficult to deal with, since S2 can hide better and you can't possess him (+not to mention the vast Neoterra order pool) - but then, drowning him in Chain Rifles feels great. For some hilarity, try the trick with Su Jian - bring a Biolocator Kuang Shi in Casevac to his potential firing positions, so he wouldn't dare to open fire under Repeater. Our great hackers, even basic Celestial Guard HD, ruin his day once he breaks stealth (and in full fireteam you will benefit from Sixth sense).
Burning it is great, but I probably wouldn't fixate on that too much unless you have a plan to follow up pretty hard and kill it. A BS15 Mimetism MULTI HMG is still a huge, huge threat. Easy to repair too.
This is pretty solid advice. Last tournament (was playing Nomads) I caught a Cutter inside of 8 inches with Bran-Do and he basically couldn't do anything to stop me from engaging due to that lack of a template weapon.
Lighting the thing on fire is basically solely to keep the damn thing from re-camoing. Shouldn't take more than 3 volleys of HRMC to kill one once the TO is down to Mimetism, less if you get lucky on the fire damage.
