I will be taking a Muyib link to a tournament with Looting and Sabatoge as one of the missions. I want a minelayer but can't decide to take the Viral Mines or the E/Mauler and Antipers mines. Any suggestions and reasoning would be appreciated.

Viral Mines are incredibly nasty, but E/Mauler + AP Mines is very versatile and has twice as many deployables.

I love viral mines, but they almost never see a table.

Have the option for LI or HI/REM/TAGs mines is too good to leave at home

Why not both? Nothing prevents having one (or two) of each. Although, the tjought of a coordinated order of 4 minelaying Muyibs (who already deployed their first mine) gives my skin a tingle.

Unfortunately I believe you have answered your question of "why not both?". If I understand the rule interactions correctly, each mine type is associated to a different skill and therefore can't be placed together in the same coordinated order.

Well, you puta mine for each at deploy, so... imagine 4 mines in your deploy zone.

Again, why not... both and also 2 panzerfaust with a kameel at their back?

Because then you are putting ~150 points into 4 mines sitting in your DZ, 4 funny rifle bois and two low-burst guns on units with no F2F winning abilities (you have average BS and nothing more going for you) that also shoot once per 1.5 orders at best, nevermind extra orders that will be spent when you will have to reposition your PzF nest or something.

Minelayer profiles are good for specialist (not in a button pushing sense) tasks. For example trying to stop a dangerous active turn piece from removing your midfield agent (like muyib-containing links), presenting your opponent with a risk that order investment to get said killer there would be in vain. Provide an extra dangerous hit against a tough target your current piece cannot reliably threaten. Extra DZ protection is nice, but it's mostly just a bonus because being Haqq, we have way cheaper means of DZ protection.

And as I've said, I'm very skeptical about PFs in active (that's what Baggage idea suggests), even linked ones. While up to 6 wounds worth of damage is cool, I usually prefer them coming on their separate to-hit dice to actually leverage Active turn advantage and try to win that FtF instead of facing high (to the point of having even odds on your active turn; that's really bad) risk of shooting yourself in the foot, paid with your own order. It's a good situational threat, especially on muyibs who don't pay SWC for that, but not something I would ever plan around.

Well, infinity is like that, always depending on the task, and that makes it lovely xD

Sorry about my crazy idea, I'm used to daylamis and farzans, not muyibs with pzf, even when i always take a minelayer to a link (sometimes asawisa haris), using viral or regular just depending on the enemy.

Anyway, it would be an ARO strategy, ofc.

Never used my hasssassins as a control zone force, did it as a zone profit team.

    Yeah, I think I agree.
And due to that and basic Infinity mech I feel that's why we generally shouldn't spam a single tool in out toolbox too much. Unless it's entire point of the tool ofc, like with aforementioned Daylami :P But then they do cost appropriately.

i tend to pack Virals against Ariadna. they tend to run lists with enough orders that losing 3 to e/m isn't much of a deal, immobilizing tractors is okay but not spectacular, and Viral mine is a good doggy-defense weapon.

So as I stated I am planning on this for Looting and Sabatoge at a tournament.

Is this true? Minelayer allows a trooper to deploy one of each kind of deployable upon deployment?

No, he is saying you get to put a mine for each Minelayer not for each deployable that the minelayers carry. So four Muyibs in this case.

Ahh yeah. I see. Thanks. I don't see the point of putting them all in the backfield. But having 3 Farzan Minelayers doing the following is great fun!:

    Deploy mines in deployment.
    Coordinate order 1 lay mines.
    Coordinate order 2 lay mines.
    Coordinate order 3 re-cammo.

Ain't nobody got time to clear all that in the midfield.

I've considered that a few times. Sounds like something fun to try but at that point I'm always drawn to having one of my Farzans be an FO and the other be a CoC to cover my bases instead.

I have done this twin Fiday's with AP Mines and twin Farzans with Mines. Except the recamo part...it worked real well.

Most armies have access to cheap warbands and cheerleaders. Clearing mines are as easy as running a sacrifice into them. It can be surprisingly hard to set up the mines to both cover the same lanes but not all explode at once. Setting up a good defense with mines takes a lot of effort whether in points or orders.

Also one successful dodge lets you escape all mines.
