Which is hilarious thing if PanO is said to be most proffesional army in Human Sphere. And another example of <-- PanO Nice Things-->
But they are! They professionally don't ask questions and thus don't learn anything besides professionally handling their own rifle. Someone else should professionally take care about coordinating the op. That's what professional specialists are for, after all.
Yea, because chain of command and robust solid command structure which is designed to work when things go FUBAR is exactly not what modern military try to accomplish....
I`m fine with LT role as a link between filed operatives and mission command. And I`m fine with the way it`s handled, it`s ok. Nomads LT options are honest enough - both gamewise and fluffwise. Absence of CoC represents a bit chaotic military structure.
Of course, undercover terrorist cells and shisha-puffing sect would be much better at that sort of thing. (I hope those smileys convey sarcasm the way I hope they do)
You know, we used to allow LTs to accomplish ITS objectives (today's equivalent: LTs were specialist operatives) The ITS seasons when that was a thing were ugly with TAG LTs. I really like this idea. I like these, too. Yeah, there's also a desire for more models with Chain of Command. I'd really like to see more Chain of Command options, in addition to interesting uses for LTs, since one of the things that happens *very quickly* in a modern military is someone saying "I'm the Man in Charge" and giving orders. I mean, in the USN, it's literally the very part of the casualty report you are supposed to give to Damage Control Central. MAIDS is the acronym: Man In Charge, Assistance Needed, Injured Personnel, Damaged Equipment, and I forget what the S is, severity, I think. I was never a phone talker for Damage Control events, I was always initial response or special equipment. And even scratch teams made up of a bunch of different troops should be deciding on who will be in charge if the highest ranking goes down. The Uplink Tech (and penalties) is a very awesome idea! But I think that it should be easier to fix a Loss of Uplink. I mean, every milspec commlog should have the necessary gear to talk to the Ops Coordinator, so it's something that a hacker should be able to re-establish, you're just nominating a new central uplink point instead of having everyone uplink themselves. If you're wondering why you'd do the central uplink, it makes it easier to run EMissions CONtrolled, which makes it harder for someone to find you. The TV series Last Ship specifically mentions EMCON, with a rather graphic reason why modern ships do it. Hey, maybe PanO's regular army ops always work so well that they've forgotten to plan for FUBARs? :smirk_cat:
I like active lts, they are fun. If i could make changes to LT to make their presence more important it would be: "Any friendly model with zoc of the LT may have the LT's order spent on them." This means that the order is being used, even if hidding your LT behind other people. And/Or: "The LT order may be used on the LT in a link team but the team leader marker must be placed in the LT" i really like this one as it means that it helps with repositioning but if you if use it to continue the firefight then your LT is at risk.
Frankly, inability to spend Lt order on his link with hims as Leader is quite a BS. For like 2 month of my Infinity "career" I thought you could. That said, I'm not sure what to do with Strategos 1 if those two ideas were to be implemented.
No worries, some people here reported to be thinking that Swiss Guard has TO and Infiltration xD (those games must have been really one-sided xD)
I would like to see something in the Lt. rule to represent the anarchism of Nomads: It just doesn't really make sense to have a hierarchical structure of command in an anarchistic society, so something like the Morat rule should be established to pay tribute to that. For game balance some kind of drawback and just being it through points would have to be established though. Nomads having no option of CoC when actually every unit should have it as a default rule doesn't help here either.
Corregidor is organizised after anarchosyndicalism, which are anarchist through and through (though heavily leaning towards traditional socialism, main difference being no hierarchy)! Bakunin are the traditional anarchists (thats where there name comes from ;)) and Tunguska are anarchocapitalists. So all Nomads are part of the anarchic spectrum.
The Soviets tried a no-heirarchy military back in the 1920s and 30s. The Germans very quickly taught them the reason for a command heirarchy in 1941. I'd want to do something like the Morat rule, but where the Nomads can select any model to be the LT as if it had the Chain of Command rule. Still vulnerable to Retreat!, however.
So how costly nomads will become with CoC on everyone? :P Pretty sure hierarchy was (re?)-implemented by then. Officers were seriously lacking experience thought, what's with so many vets repressed.
Maybe 2 points. IIRC, actual CoC is ~4 points (hard to check now that JSA is NA2 and there's no Kempeitai Combi or shottie without CoC). This would be cheaper, because it's naming a LT without that model also being a Specialist. Maybe so, but my point was that the Red Army tried it and got their asses handed to them on a silver platter when they didn't have an actual military hierarchy.
On another side, japanese WW2 army could be considered as less hierarchical, since it was admitted (and even ruled i believe) that low ranked officers, being close to the fighting zone, would know better than the higher ones and could deny their commanding officers if needed. That didn't worked well, since it lead to many offensives that had no strategical aim but costed mens and ressources. EDIT: found source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gekokujō
