Yup. Just to be clear: No salt here. Just wondering what incentive there is for new players to continue playing. There seems to be a lot of volatility coming from the game right now. I have plenty of models and don't often participate in ITS. This doesn't much affect me. I personally think this is a fun change and look forward to future changes. Is it temporary? Nice constructive feedback - If anything will drive new players away from CB, its the toxic members of our community, not changes made to the game. Saying "with all respect ... " and then speaking to me like I'm an idiot is comical. So, with all do respect @sarf , and remember I'm saying it with all due respect, your comment ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and dolphin getting it on. - That there is trademarked, not to be used without written permission of Ricky Bobby, Inc.
Yeah, I got that haha. I'm really not worried and excited to see if anything will happen to his profile.
Well I guess you`ve missed piece of information at the beginning of the event whet it was said. Well done on displaying TOs as strict non-humans, not generous to new guys))) Well done))) Also what positive experience would new player get being whipped at event with miniatures but without idea how to do tasks? Well, I`m playing Bakunin at next tournament and I`m excited to see how Kassandra will be changed after)))
If the rules clearly state 'no Tarik' I don't think that is the choice of the TO if he is submitting it to CB. I could be wrong though, I haven't run Infinity events myself yet.
Wow. This was the one profile I was sure they wouldn't touch. Two new, beautiful centerpiece models--one of which comes in the recommended second purchase for new players--seemed to provide serious material incentive to not ban. I agree with @'OldGregg' that this is a bizarre, counter productive choice for newbies. It's not crippling or anything, just really bizarre to ban the most exciting and dynamic model/profile in the new player set of purchases. The rumors of a profile rework come from the Spanish forums, apparently. I am inclined to believe them though, or was before Tarik was chosen. There are a lot of older characters that could use some tweaking for the HSN3 era. Looking at the choices though, I have no idea what they're thinking. Maybe a rework for pet rules is underway for Ariadna and Aleph? But I don't really see anything else that ties these choices together. I sincerely hope that Tarik comes back with an RTF announcement, but that's increasingly looking like a Q4 or 2019 decision. So... *shrug* Hope the man enjoys his R&R, but I'll keep playing him on my private tables.
I can see you are adept at spotting sarcasm ... Learning experiences supported by a fun environment and encouraged by community members. Sounds like we're both excited.
I dont see the issue for a new player. Its not like these attend tournaments soon, they need weeks or even months to get firm with the rules and then the tactics. They can still use him outside of tournaments until the challenge is over. Its not like they would have to start another army to be able to use him. And please guys, be nice to each other. I dont want another thread like the Uprising related ones....
I know I'm not all players, but between me and my friends, over half of us went for competitive play in most games we pick up, pretty much as soon as we can field a legal list. We enjoy learning how to play well - and the best way to do that is to get in to the deep end. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect other new players to do likewise, and taking away that option is just a little harsh.
I like playing tournaments, even as a new player, because that's where you make friends and learn to play with a supportive community. Playing tournaments isn't like jumping from AA to the Show, it's just a structured way to get some games under your belt. You may go in knowing that you are going to lose every round, but a friendly community can make that fun and help you learn. Honestly, if the game is designed for months of private play at home before playing tournaments that's a real problem. New players shouldn't be required to spend months perfecting the game before playing ITS.
As someone who came here hoping to watch a dumpster fire happening over Tariq being banned, I'm disappointed by how well you guys are taking this.
Completely agree with you here. Definitely not crippling, but bizarre. As a new player who hasn't played in official ITS events, but almost exclusively plays ITS missions with my friends, I'll try to show you how I see it. Again, I don't think this is major. I started with Tarik and, as I have become more comfortable with infinity, I have become most comfortable playing the pieces I started infinity with. I have played with Tarik's profile more than most. Now That I am looking to take the next step into the world of ITS events, I would normally look to play the profiles and lists I am most comfortable with. [Red Veil]. I don't expect to win all my games, but I expect to do well, as I've been improving every week I play. I think new players like me will now be delayed in joining ITS events. Personally, I'm going to take time and shift my focus to other profiles and lists, building comfort before I join a big event. I don't think this is a bad thing at all, as I will play some profiles I've mostly avoided. I'm excited for the challenge. As we can see from the Yu Jing threads, not everyone shares this enthusiasm. I hope that explains my line of thought without being combative.
Ok, my experience with new players is quite different, but I see that this is not the same with yours, so my point does not stand. Coming back to the Tarik issue, yes its annoying, like I said above, I wanted to use him in our league, but just one missing character shouldnt prevent a new player from enjoying the game. And ITS is not the only way to play competitive. No, you are cool;) For the rest, I stated it above, the loss of Tarik is annoying, so I hear you, but there is so much more in Haqq to explore and since you are already firm with the rest of your models, it shouldnt have a to big impact on your performance in a big event. Yes, not everyone is excited for this stuff, but Tarik didnt get cut from Haqq like JSA did, so there is really some need imho to get grip for certain people and live with Tarik not beeing available for one way of playing Infinity for a while. There are many years to come after that to use him in every list... Thats were you see, that the WIP 14 of faction spreads to the players;)
I'm with you 100% We'll be just fine without Tarik (for a little while at least). I think this opens up some fun opportunities for all of us. Thank you for the well written and constructive reply!
I mean, ignore the ban? That's basically what CB suggests unless you play in official events. Do you really submit all those matches you have with brand new players to CB?
Spoiler: Last known video footage of Tarik Mansuri On a more serious note, this only impacts list construction for official ITS events. I generally prefer other systems for a number of reasons (card-based systems, narrative stuff, etc.) and hopefully this encourages members of the community to try alternative Infinity mission systems.
Yeah - I don't think any of us have a problem. As I've already said, I enjoy the challenge and can't wait to see what happens. That specific comment has been further discussed in the thread and could be seen out out context. I'll quote myself to save time, but if there's something I'm saying that doesn't make sense, or needs clarification, let me know.
Totally agree that we can either a.) ignore the ban and play non-ITS matches or b.) play with other fun, cool Haqqislam units. We have a wealth of options and, frankly, I think Tarik lists might actually be some of the weaker stuff that we play (although they can be especially fun). It's just weird marketing for a company that encourages players to play non-official game modes with recommended starter models. So now the more exciting question: How will they rework Tarik? I imagine Fatality lvl 2 is going away, but what will replace it? I'd like to see MA 2 or 3 to make him a nastier CC unit, but don't really expect to see that. Maybe just lose Fatality and drop a few points? A slimmer profile could certainly help list building.
We are the Haqqislamite players. We will drink some tea, some of us will enjoy a shisha (and of those, some will even enjoy some hasish in their shisha, and the rest will pretend they haven't noticed that). We'll have, likely, a learned dispute. We will weight out facts and our opinions, and do our best to look those front, back, sideways, upside down and, if we can muster enough wisdom, even inside out. It is not unlikely someone's hot blood will try to take better of them, but cooler heads will prevail very soon. In a worst case scenario, those cooler heads will leave the dispute, feeling disgusted by the troublemakers... and that tends to leave the troublemaker to himself and himself only, which tends to end any arguments pretty quickly. And we tend to be damn proud of this attitude. ...somehow, the Haqqislam as a faction tends to attract a pretty specific kind of players. Either they come in with this attitude, or adopt it rather quickly.
What pissed me off is that CA had any voice in the challenge. You see, IDC if they got their new HVT rules, why not? But why they had a possibility to be excluded from the list of factions with suspended characters backwise? Did they victory proved that CA had no guys associated with... well... CA? It's ridiculous to my mind. The 1st non-CA faction should be excluded then. IMO, ofc :)
