Ok, as a mostly Yu Jing Vanilla player i have to say it is still strong ( as all vsnillas) after the Uprising. Speaking about Yu Jing good points: -Multy style faction: yeah we can play like Pano or like Ariadna but ofc they will be better in their style. We have from heavy fire power on HI to good camo infiltrators. You can do a funtional list based on multiple playstyle very easy. ( Someone can argue nomads and haqquis can too but i think we have far more brute firepower) -Order pool: okey we have the magic kuang shi trick*, 33 points 0,5 SWC 5 orders. Thats a very easy list making. -GOD warbands: kuang shis are fine as a warband ( apart of being regular) but Shaolins are very good. People tend to forget what a cc 23 Warband can do. Being impetuos helps a lot, that free order per turn is the difference between a CC with 1 or two regulars or spending half group on it. -Good heavy carries: from hac tao to Su Jian we have heavy troops for all styles. Su Jian is insane if they don't have hackers and you play the hit and run tactic. Yuan Huo, Hac Tao provide pure fire power. Daofei is a toolbox in mid field or a supreme rambo that can clean his deploy zone in turn one. -Good light carries: light=cheap. Good Hi for 30-40 points and the infamous atack remotes ( Rui Shi/ Lu Dan) -Smoke combo: we are the faction for the smoke combo Rui Shi + Shaolin 25 points... ( Extra 18 with hacker to buff it). -tiger soldier: ok this more than a strong point is a strong unit xD. Tiger soldier is good and cool thats all. -Good midfield specialist. Every faction have its mid field troops but in Yu Jing the 3 options have his own diferent role that always is funny ( ninja can go missile on CC, Guilang to kill other camos and kanren to clean mines and attack HI and tags). More or less thats all *Losing keitsosus is hard for people who dislike kuang shis. The option is still here but now if you want more than 13-14 orders you are forced to play the only 40k point of infinity xd. As a player i tried to avoid kuang shis but now i will have to take them in some spam friendly missions. ( Not the end of the world ofc, just saying xD)
I would quit the game then. The game turns quickly turns into "who wins the Lt. roll" and then you pick either a Speculo or Kitsune Lt. Proceed to kill either the Lt. or the very expensive stuff your opponent brings. Cripple your opponents entire army or bring him to LoL all while being totallty immune to the -2 orders command token. Win the game. That's what our local Limited Insertion tournaments quickly descended into and also the reason we stopped using that format for tournaments. Well, let's delete Mutts then, or the 3 flash pulse bots from NCA/QK. Jaguars. Intruders. REM's in general. Fusilier link. Unidrons.
Precisely. There's a few things that are unique, Daofei is one of them and Oniwaban was one of them, but if Oniwaban with their combined roughly 18% (after assuming that most lists won't have both Oni and Shinobu, but some will) popularity was not a core of Yu Jing, then where does that leave the sub-10% Daofei? How much does the factions unique or accentuated features really define the faction?
Quoted for awesomesauce! OK, now that Warband's Paradise has been played again, I'll be honest: I'm not out much in my usual YJ lists. I didn't take much beyond a Ninja in my usual lists, and I can still do that. A fairly typical list for me would be something like this: Yu Jing ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 ZÚYǑNG Lieutenant (AutomediKit) HMG / 2 Breaker Pistols, Knife. Very nice one! I should swap theguilang sniper for a forward observer and daofei hacker for daofei hmg but i really like it. Going camo spam with Yu Jing it's always funny.

Daofei, then Su-Jian and lastly the Rui Shi (which you may use earlier to take out key ARO pieces) to strike while you flood the midfield with Chain Rifles to stymie your opponent and complete the mission with that Ninja and Guilang (who doubles as additional anti-Camo support for Ariadna).
good Put HI into play with less impact on the order pull due to Kuangshi farm Relatively cheap and though TO/Camo rambos (Hactao & Daofei) Elite infiltrators (Ninjas & Guilangs) Fast and movile Rambo (Su-jian) Reliable Smoke combo LowCap HMGs in LT profiles Agresive LTs (We've lost bikers, but we still have a lot of agresive Lts) Auto defendable Chain of command (pheasant w/madtraps) Agresive Chain of command (pheasant w/Refury) bad elite and expensive troops pano-like availability on doctors and engineers poor warbands A lot of vanilla HIs without skills or equipment heavy dependence over the kuanshis when going for 2 group lists I'm missing something?
Here's what vanilla Yu Jing still do *really* well. The Su Jian is arguably still the best HI in the game. I'm actually preferring the heavy shotgun version currently, as it can really travel around the place and find hidden valuable models like nothing else in the game. Mobility is second to none, resilience is high and the heavy shotgun face to face at BS 14 + 6 is brutal. We have plenty of better options for long range gunfighters, but nothing else can get up close and put the pain on as easily. Zip up a building and hide in a safe spot. Cautious move 8". Jump 8" without super jump. Cross difficult terrain without breaking a sweat. The Ru Shi, which we get for less SWC than the NA2 factions that can run it. It's still the murderbot to school all other murderbots. Throw smoke, get assisted fire up, and kill some dudes. Sun Tze. Flash pulse of doom. Strategery Lvl 3 at deployment time, 11 order limited insertion lists, hard to kill datatracker... and a mimetism multirifle isn't bad either. He's not a lieutenant you want to lead with in the early game, but in the endgame he can grab scoring table areas based on his own points and be very hard to shift. Shao Lin. These guys still show Ninjas how tough they could be if they wore orange pants and stopped sneaking around. Amongst the most stylish ways to kill a TAG in the game is to beat it to death with a few warrior monks. ... while we're on that topic, we still have Killer Hacker Ninjas. Kuang Shi. All flavors of kick ass Heavy Infantry. Yan Huo, Hsien, Cranes, Hac Tao, Dao Fei (only camo HI). All have their own flavor and abilities not replicated elsewhere on models that can go prone etc. The Hac Tao KHD is the marauding TO HI specialist that a swiss guard wishes it could be. Tiger Soldiers. GuiLang That's why I'm considering taking a break from ISS to put down sedition with the army for a bit. There's lots of fun stuff to try out.
compared to a cutter, an avatar or achiles?? is relatively cheap. And It's a bit more polivalent than a Swiss guard. I dont think flexiblity is a real thing in Yujing. Availability and the shortage of some options make it hard sometimes 1 warband, 1 paratrooper, 1TAG, 1 Doctor (AVA1), 1 Engineer (AVA1).... Expensive skirmishers, not so great hackers,.... Our main thing is to have expensive elite profiles, cheap vanilla HIs and kuangshis to be able to line them up without loosing too much Sure, the su-jian is a beast for a vanilla HI. But you oversteem it too much. While it shines on close tables, it suffers a lot when the table is more open. It also has almost no ARO protection. And yeah in speed is second to other troops. An aragoto for example is faster, and can be as deadly if played well for les than half su-jians price (I find it's play hard, but rewarding). Ruishi+smoke+assisted is a waste of resources in Limited insertion (3 orders just to begin to shoot one enemy position). A bulleteer is twice as good. Suntze is crazy expensive and has poor weaponry. It's potential is hard to squeeze without other stars into play Shaolins are posibly the worst WB of the game (gakis are the other one but they are cheaper and have a linkteam in morat. That's insane) HIs... Terracota, Shang-ji, wu-ming.... Just saucy flavour and abilities (totally not vanillla HIs like orks)
It's hard to say what vanilla does super well besides being generally good at whatever you want it to be. Hac-Tao aside (i look at that profile with a lot of envy), I guess a lot of it relies on finding useful synergy between 2-3 different stronger units, and a lot of units designed to support them. Hac Tao + Crane + Ninjas + Sensor/Sniffer remotes + Guilang specialists? EDIT: Something like this. StateEmpire Infiltrators ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 CRANE IMPERIAL AGENT Lieutenant (X Visor) Spitfire, 2 Nanopulsers / Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 54) HAC TAO (Executive Order) HMG, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 69) GŬILÁNG (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) GŬILÁNG (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) NINJA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Tactical Bow / Pistol, DA CCW, Knife. (0 | 29) NINJA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Tactical Bow / Pistol, DA CCW, Knife. (0 | 29) WÈIBĪNG Yaókòng Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) WÈIBĪNG Yaókòng Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) CELESTIAL GUARD (Kuang Shi Control Device) Combi Rifle + Light Smoke Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 13) RUI SHI Spitfire / Electric Pulse. (1 | 20) 5.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army Mostly I just play ISS. Having a more limited selection of toys designed to work together and with a strong theme is more fun to me. And i don;t even own any Kuang Shi. Yeah I have a hard time making a usable MRRF list in limited insertion. Even with Mirage-5 and an Anaconda its hard to fill the rest.
I kinda disagree with these. Sun Tze might be expensive, but his tactical benefits are well worth it. I don't think his weapons are amazing, but he's actually pretty damn solid in a fight. WIP17 Flash Pulse and a Boarding Shotgun together are pretty awesome in my experience: either the enemy is taking a WIP20 (17 in cover) flashlight ARO; they're close enough for a close range shotgun blast, or he dodges around with Mimetism (and Total Immunity/three effective wounds at ARM4/BTS6 back up) - he's a damn tough nut to crack, and he can punish even slightly careless attempts to take him down. But Sun Tze is definitely an investment. You don't just throw him into a list, he's something that you will designed a list around. Shaolin, I don't understand how you can see them as the worst, honestly. Gakis are marginally cheaper (seriously, 4pts vs 5pts!) but with no Chain Rifle or Smoke Grenades; their main selling point is that they'll just bum rush you without a care in the world - they're basically dangerous in MAF, but not particularly elsewhere. Compared to most other Warbands, Shaolin are, at worst, on the same level. HI; Shang Ji need to be looked at again. When Zuyong were brought out and Wu Ming updated, the Shang Ji took a big hit. I also seriously miss their standard Hacking Device! They're not bad, but they're definitely a little costly for what they bring, which is a shame (the Shang Ji is what got me settled on Yu Jing!)
Amusingly the Zuyong in Red Veil was what sold me - I wanted an army of those guys. The back engine vents were the right amount of terran marine mixed with lean sharp edges. Sadly that's not happening yet, but maybe some day.
I guess I actually meant versatility, lots of our units pack multiple weapons for different occasions. (Like Crane) While we are at we can probably add camo hunting to our list of strength, thanks to ISS. We have more option for sensors and MSVs than most.
Shaolin are less frills but MA3 puts them a tier above Morlocks (who are more expensive), they're much better at warbanding than Hungries, Makauls are 8 points more for a regular order and eclipse but the same CC level, etc. They don't have anything special, but the perform the basic function of the Warband (smoke and chain rifle into CC) exactly as well, and the CC even better.
1. an aragoto and su-jian have similar roles for sure, however this point largely ignores the sheer reliability a su-jian brings over an aragoto. "playing well" never ever removes crits, you might get lucky 1/20 games where the aragoto performs just as well, but by in large, the point where an aragoto just dies and stops being useful, the su jian is only 1/3 through its health. This opens a swathe of tactical options where a single ARO might prevent movement, the su jian will just walk through it and go on to rampage. 2. I partially agree with this. a Rui shi is not hands down better than a bulleteer. They are both excellent remotes. But a bulleteer is not twice as good either. 3. I haven't really used the guy, so can be tough. 4. LOL. this completely ignores the absolute brutality yu jing brings through smoke. I think YJ might actually have some of the most dangerous MSV2 models to have access to 5 pt smoke in the game? Other than that.... minor point, shaolin aren't anything particularly exciting, but for 5p? Its hard to complain about that. 5. We're definitely not slouches in the HI department. I'm pretty sure it wasn't that long ago the forums flowed with panO salt at how much more interesting the Yu Jing heavy infantry was. None of the discussed profiles were JSA, so nothing has really changed there. I also want to repeat just how amazing a heavy infantry with sensor can be! damn I love Cranes. Theres very little a crane doesn't have a tool for, camo, long range, CC, templates.
That's quite precisely what Iv'e ment. Suntze for it's own is a tought guy, but is not a good rambo. He's also too expensive compared to other strategos. You need to build the list arround him to make it shine and It's harder to get the juice out of him compared to the rest of the strategos (including the avatar and the marut) His main point is to be more or less endurable (I've seen it fall under one ot two bursts of combi more than once) I didn't say they are useless. They're sure not. Their're simply the sugarless compared to morloks, jaguars, yuanyuans, galwegians, makauls, mirmidons... Sure they got smoke, sure the faction has MSVs, I'm not deniying that. But being an irregular troop it's quite a downside on a HI and elite powerhouse were the order pool trends to be on shortage. It's more probable to rely on the CG controller. It comes with a farm
