IMPORTANT NOTE - this thread is for the N3 rules, and does NOT apply to N4! As the mixed Fireteams in NA2 are causing some confusion, I thought it would be a good idea to spell out the various restrictions when forming a Fireteam. IMPORTANT LINK - the definitive list of Fireteams on the wiki: http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams Fireteam: Duo (Fireteam type and a Special Skill) The Fireteam must include at least one trooper with the Fireteam: Duo Special Skill. The Fireteam must be listed in the Sectorial chart for that Sectorial (or it's a generic list and you're running the appropriate EVO program). Unless listed in the Sectorial chart (or sometimes in brackets after Duo), both troopers in a Duo must be from the same unit. As a Fireteam: Duo breaks when it goes down to one trooper, the Duo will break as soon as you lose either trooper. EDIT - you can run any number of Fireteams: Duo at the same time. Fireteam: Haris (Fireteam type and a Special Skill) The Fireteam must include at least one trooper with the Fireteam: Haris Special Skill. The Fireteam must be listed in the Sectorial chart for that Sectorial. So, for example, you can't form a Haris of Samaritans in Onyx, because it's not listed in the Sectorial chart. Unless listed in the Sectorial chart as a Special Fireteam, all troopers in a Haris must be from the same unit. A Haris can be formed with 2 or 3 troopers, unless it's a Special Haris that lists a specific number of troopers, for example a Samaritan + 2 Xeodrons in Onyx must have exactly those three troops. Losing the trooper with the Haris Skill does not cancel the Fireteam, unless one of the other Fireteam cancellation clauses have been met (they were the Team Leader, the Haris is down to one trooper etc.). In the same way, getting reduced from a set number of troopers in a Special Haris does not cancel the Haris unless other cancellation clauses kick in. EDIT - you can only have one Fireteam: Haris at a time, but this is in addition to other types of Fireteam. Fireteam: Core (Fireteam type) Fireteam: Core is only a Fireteam type, there is no equivalent Special Skill. The Fireteam must be listed in the Sectorial chart for that Sectorial. So, for example, you can't form a standard Core of Wú Míng in Ikari, because it's not listed in the Sectorial chart. Unless listed in the Sectorial chart as a Special Fireteam, all troopers in a Core must be from the same unit. A Fireteam: Core can be formed with 2, 3, 4 or 5 troopers, unless it's a Special Core that lists a specific number of troopers, for example 4 Wú Míng + Clipper in Ikari must have exactly those five troops. Getting reduced from a set number of troopers in a Special Core does not cancel the Core unless other cancellation clauses kick in. EDIT - you can only have one Fireteam: Core at a time, but this is in addition to other types of Fireteam. For example in Corregidor you could have a Fireteam: Core of Alguaciles, a Fireteam: Haris of Señor Massacre and Jaguars and multiple Fireteams: Duo of Geckos all at the same time (assuming enough points). Fireteam: Triad (Fireteam type and a Special Skill) All troopers in the Fireteam must have the Fireteam: Triad Special Skill. A Triad can be only formed with 3 troopers. Getting reduced to 2 troopers does not cancel the Triad unless other cancellation clauses kick in. EDIT - you can run any number of Fireteams: Triad at the same time. Fireteam: Enomotarchos (Fireteam type and a Special Skill) The Fireteam must include at least one trooper with the Fireteam: Enomotarchos Special Skill. All Enomotarchos members must have the same Enomotarchos Skill, or be from the unit mentioned in the Enomotarchos Skill. For example a Myrmidon Officer with Enomotarchos (Myrmidons) + Ajax with Enomotarchos (Myrmidons) + Myrmidons, or Acmon with Enomotarchos (Dactyls) + Dactyls, or Nesaie Alkê with Enomotarchos (Thorakitai) + Thorakitai. An Enomotarchos can be formed with 2, 3 or 4 troopers. Losing the trooper with the Enomotarchos Skill does not cancel the Fireteam, unless one of the other Fireteam cancellation clauses have been met (they were the Team Leader, the Enomotarchos is down to one trooper etc.). EDIT - you can run any number of Fireteams: Enomotarchos at the same time. UPDATE April 2019 Wildcard Troopers These troopers can be included in any Fireteam in their Sectorial, 'replacing' any trooper. There is no limit to the number of Wildcard troopers that can be in a Fireteam, unless a limit is listed in the Sectorial chart (see June updated, below). Remember that a Fireteam: Haris will still require at least one trooper with the Fireteam: Haris Special Skill. Remember that a Fireteam: Duo will still require at least one trooper with the Fireteam: Duo Special Skill. Remember that Fireteams: Haris and Duo also need to be listed in the Sectorial chart. For example, in Varuna, Kamau can be included in any Fireteam, effectively replacing any unit that can be included in that Fireteam. However, a Kamau with the Fireteam: Haris Special Skill does not allow you to form a Fireteam: Haris with Fusiliers, because Fusiliers do not have Haris listed in the Varuna Sectorial chart. 'Counts as an X' Troopers These troopers count as the specified unit for the purposes of forming Fireteams. For example, in Varuna, Indigo Fusilier Bipandra is treated as a Fusilier when forming Fireteams. 'Can be part of/can join an X Fireteam' Troopers These are similar to Wildcard troopers, but are limited to being included in the listed Fireteams. They can 'replace' any trooper in the listed Fireteams. For example, in OperationS, a Rudras GunBot can be included in any Yadu Troops Fireteam, effectively counting as any unit that can be included in that Fireteam. UPDATE June 2019 When creating a Fireteam: Core that includes Wildcard troopers, you must include at least one trooper from one of the units listed for that Fireteam in the Sectorial chart, or a trooper who counts as one of those units. Example 1, in Varuna, Kamau can be part of a Fireteam: Core of Fusiliers, but you would need to include at least one Fusilier or unit that counts as a Fusilier (i.e. Indigo Fusilier Bipandra). Example 2, in Dahshat, Authorised Bounty Hunters can be part of a Zúyŏng Fireteam: Core but you would need to include at least one Zúyŏng. A Rui Shi could also be included as it is a Zúyŏng Fireteam, but again, at least one Zúyŏng needs to be included.
So if in StarCO Rrriot Girl link with let's say Emily, have link leader Emily killed dead it cannot be reformed again ? (we assume Avicenna is not on the board)
Just to clarify for Onyx: So 5 Unidron's is not a legal fireteam? (5 Wu Ming in IS is also illegal?) So it's deliberately intended that a Unidron core could be 1 Nexus + 1 Unidron, but Ikari Wu Ming cannot be 1 Clipper + 1 Wu Ming? I assume a Nexus and Legate is not a legal fireteam core without any Unidrons. But because i can't trust my assumptions in infinity... does, "and up to 3 Unidrons" mean zero can be chosen?
Unidrons are listed for Onyx with both Core and Special Cores with Nexus Operatives/Umbra Legates. http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams#Onyx_Contact_Force So a Core of 2-5 Unidrons is completely legal.
Nice, at least now I understand why MO stuff has soo much footnotes under every entry. Ad rem: Were there plans/discussions made to enhance ARMY tool to well help players (newer ones) in this endeavour (as building links really got quite complicated) ?
Thanks for the link @ijw. I do find this strangely confusing. So "and up to 3" means 1-3, not 0-3, or does it mean something else? I guess I'm not clear on how official Army is. Is it official but simply has errors I need to watch out for? Or something else lol? Because Army: Onyx Unidrons and Ikari Wu Ming do not give any indication one of the two fireteams has additional options/restrictions from what's listed.
Army just has notes and reminders for Fireteams, the most official rules will always be what's on the wiki page http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams
'Up to' means anything up to 3, so 0 would be fine as long as you're meeting the minimum Fireteam size. So for Unidrons, a complete list of every possibility would be: 2-5 Unidrons Legate + 1-4 Unidrons (minimum Fireteam size of 2 troopers) Nexus Operative + 1-4 Unidrons (minimum Fireteam size of 2 troopers) Nexus operative + Legate + 0-3 Unidrons (minimum Fireteam size of 2 troopers) As Colbrook says, Army is official, but it usually only has reminders for Fireteams, and there are some bugs in the newly-added NA2 lists.
Up to 1 Legate + up to 1 Nexus + up to 5 Unidron, never exceeding 5 members XD Funny thing is how, in the RAW, you can't reform a Core of Riots but the Haris is Ok as long as you have a living Haris riot XD
Huh? Grrls have Core in Bakunin so you may reform with 2-5 members. In Starco you need Emily or Avicenna, but as long as they're present you can reform the Core.
That is what I find so funny. You need exactly 4 riots + Avicenna OR Emily to form a Core of Riots. So if Emily is Leader and gets killed, you los the Fireteam for the rest of the battle. Because suddenly the girls don't know how to work together XD
I recommend actually reading the rules http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams#StarCo Special Fireteam: Core. Up to 4 Riot Grrls + Avicenna or Emily Handelman. Special Fireteam: Haris. Up to 2 Riot Grrls + Avicenna. Now, if you were talking about Wu-Ming in Ikari, their Special Core is very brittle but this appears to be an intentional limitation.
He is half correct though, fine he said 4 instead of up to 4 but if Emily is killed the team cannot be reformed (if broken like in his example) unless Avicenna is around to replace her.
Great list maybe worth adding to that which you can have multiples of. As an aside to the merc company links it maybe worth considering an evo if you are planning to run a core of them.
Let me see if I understand correctly. Starco 4 Grrls + Avicenna Special Fireteam Core; Team Leader Avi enters the Isolated state or any Null state... the fireteam cannot reform? (No Emily in list) Ikari Wu Ming Special Fireteam Core; The Team Leader enters the Isolated state or any Null state... the fireteam cannot reform? EDIT: Onyx can start a game with a core of just a Legate + Nexus?
Unless you have another med kit or an engineer to fix what's wrong with Avi, or you have the Haris Grrl (and no other Haris) as a redundancy you're not reforming them. Again, unless they have a Haris or duo troop with them, or if they have a replacement for the team leader in the same combat group if it was a Wu Ming that dropped, but if you lose the clipper as team leader you're hosed. Just because you can doesn't mean you should, but if you really want to do it you can ..
