Since no warning of any kind is provided, instead of getting a copy from files you have in your PC (or from the RAM, for the data of lists unsaved) it would be safer to get data from the ITS saved ones (whose code reside in CB's servers). Also, ITS-saved lists are related to a player, while device-saved ones not always do. Plus you need to save the lists as ITS in order to assign them to a tournament, thus making lists saved as ITS more likely to be "real" lists instead of the cluttered garbage I might have been making while list-assembling stuff.
Alternatively, they may only count the lists submitted through the OTM, bypassing the data protection concerns entirely...
They could potentially be tracking every time a unit is added (and hopefully also if deleted) but that would be really dangerous in terms of getting false positives for adding things by mistake or simply checking profiles. In essence that's all stuff tracked their end rather than yours so never needs to know what's on your machine. Taking lists that players save (or whenever they print a list) would generally be a better moment to capture as you at least know the list is being used. Still huge potential for dodgy data though.
That would yield even less data, since presenting lists is not mandatory (unless the TO demands it, usually because they will provide a printed copy), thus they would get tons of empty signals. I doubt the Army works as a "dumb client", considering a lot of problems get solved by forcing an update with ctrl+f5 (a method suggested by V several times, to several problems, mostly when the Army gets updated).
@xagroth I think that was kind of my point (though I explained it poorly). So long as it's all running their end then it's not even your data they are tracking so there isn't any data protection to worry about. As a number of other people have said, how this data is gathered has an impact on what conclusions can be drawn from it and the analysis that we've been shown so far has been exceptionally over simplistic. Of course that doesn't mean it is over simplistic as we have no visibility on what was actually concluded, merely Bostria's high altitude explanation of those conclusions that was deemed appropriate for public consumption.
Something different... In the old forum I remember heated debates about female knights. I'm (positively) surprised that there were so few reactions to the new Magister Box.
I'm personally really glad that we finally got some female knights. We knew they existed, because of comments from Corvus Belli in the past, but there were so many people who wanted to deny it. Now the argument can finally be laid to rest. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Talking non-stop abot Yu-Jing and JSA gets tiresome after a while... And it is true that I am very surprised that the Female Knights got so very little attention.
I was one of them. But really, with so many things getting resculpted or new releases, I am on overload at this point and numb. I think the awful panzerfaust is worse than there being female knights to be honest. The new Magisters in general are lacking overall. At this point the amount of fucks I give about the random female knights is < or = 0.
The reason you weren't hearing much is because those of us who were opposed to the concept have been largely quiet, CB having made their position quite clear with this release. Not much point in debating it any further. I mean, they're not going to take it back. I'm not really surprised at the lack of positive reaction either. There weren't exactly a ton of female knight partisans, and half of them weren't MO players. Either way, all over now! *shrugs*
More needs to be said about the direction of the panzerfaust. I won't be getting these resculpts. But very true that CB isn't going to take them back. So I shall vote with my wallet and say nary a thing more on the female knights. A Møøse once bit my sister... No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink"
Bostria showed the metrics from the last two years for Vanilla YJ. The metrics were as follows: - Zhanshis are the most used troop profile with about 66% of usage. Every YJ list had 2.3 Zhanshis. - Then in order: Celestial Guards, Guilangs?, Tiger Soldiers and then Ninjas (which stay in YJ). - Ninjas: 47.7% Then it gets interesting: - No JSA troops until Bostria reached Tokusetsu Butai: most used JSA profile in Vanilla YJ with 35.6%, but only because it is a point cheaper than the Chinese equivalent. - Then the list continues with lots of other options until it reaches on the next page the Keisotsu Butai with... 18.7% of usage (compare that to 66% of Zhanshis). - Raiden: 14% - Shinobu Kitsune: 11% - Oniwaban: ~9% - Shikami: 4% - O-Yoroi: 2.5% - Karakuri, Takeshi Neko Oyama, Haramaki Zensen Butai, Asuka Kisaragi, Kempeitai - less than 2%! Basically this shows on paper what everyone noticed for ages when checking the Vanilla lists - people very rarely mixed JSA profiles with the Chinese. If people wanted to use Japanese troops they played JSA instead, with the exceptions of ninjas, and a 1pt cheaper doc. 1. YJ lost some profiles, that they haven't been using statistically anyway 2. JSA got polished as a separate army with lovely new models and a few changed or added profiles. 3. In the near or distant future (depending of how angry you are) IA will fill the void with new models and profiles, which hopefully won't be as unused as Japanese were in Vanilla. 4. So statistically If you played YJ and owned everything: you can now play JSA with better models and new troop profiles, play Vanilla with almost to no loss, play the revamped ISS and you know that a secotorial is coming you way. What tragic, dark times to be a gamer... They did a great job as a company. GW or some other manufacturers would simply remove JSA or leave them hanging for a decade (even while having huge resources that let them do almost anything they want). After a year or two you'll have a much better situation - otherwise those unused profiles could linger and spam Vanilla YJ for years. Nonetheless, some parts of the forum as so negative that I am simply astounded.
So now the CB will shows us stats how many new people picked up game because Female Knights ? xD Oh whom am I trying to fool...
I'll just cut this one off at the pass since I know what others will say: "We don't need stats because it's in the fluff, and you may not argue with fluffy decisions (see, e.g., why Bipandra is still boring)." Get that salt back over to the PanO thread, soldier!
Honestly I was pleasantly surprised but assumed it would be a shit show on here so I didn't even bother coming in here to post. I am glad people have remained calm about it lol. Will definitely be picking them up when the time comes.
