Hi! I just have a thematic match this weekend against YJ, the mission is Acquisition, but instead of Comms Consoles we have Panoplies (the Objective points come from those instead of from the antennas, the central pod remains unchanged, but we have no secondaries), and we play at 0 SWC (unmodifiable, so no Kusanagi), 300 pts and Limited Insertion. Since it's a campaign, use of Characters is... limited (so best if not! XD) I was thinking I have 3 main options: go for camo, go for heavy metal, or go for camo-hunting. Essentially, I was going to pick 2 prowlers (ADL for heavy hunting), a Spekter (for last turn grabbing of the central piece), 30pts Riots (with the blitzen or Pnazerfaust, can't remember which one they carry), a Gecko (for Datatracker and midfield Sup Fire), an Intruder (SWC-less Lt, more resilient than a Wildcat) and something for TO hunting (a KHD Zero with 2 specialist remotes, or one or two Sensor Grenzers). I fully expect my opponent to deploy an Oniwaban for heavy hunting, with possibly a Kanren for those Madtraps and/or some E/M toting samurai HI (plus a Hsien Lt, possibly some camos...). So, Ideas?
If for nothing else you want the Gecko to attract the Oniwaban's wrath. If you deploy right the worst case scenario is still just 1 order down.
I feel like Morans solve two of your issues at once. An oniwaban is going to get to it's target, but careful deployment of crazy koalas can mitigate the damage it does after. Also, they provide repeater coverage to deal with HI. Another trick I use against Haqq to deal with impersonator (but the idea carries over) is go Minelayer zero and put a mine down next to the target you think they'll go after, and if it's in the DZ your opp might think it's an intruder.
This is also why the Lunokhood never leaves the table for me. A giant flamer/shotgun and 2 koalas in your DZ, so you don't waste your Morans on hugging your Lt.
Take Zoe and Pi-well. Just because 'screw 0 SWC', I want my hackers! Kusanagi is actually a really decent option: without SWC weapons on the board, she's a really good gun comparatively to a lot of what's out there. Second Loricus on the Gecko. It's literally the only TAG that can be played, so it would be a crime not to. And with a couple of Morlocks you can make it painful for the Oni if they make a play for it.
But both of us are limited to 0 SWC, and everything you suggested costs some (aside from using Zoe, that is, but all deployable repeaters on AD/infiltrators costs SWC aswell). I could use a Lunokhod, however. Was thinking on that one, the Lt will probably be an Intruder. Problem is, I will be depending on disposable fire (Panzerfaust and Blitzen) in order to take enemy heavy troops. I would normally use Morlocks with E/M melee weapons, but Limited Insertion plays against me there... I need regular orders. It seems a 13pts Jaguar is on the table... Campaign rules, tons of Nomads in the team... sucks to lose either character. And the morlocks take away regular orders, damn >.<

We are playing a "narrative" campaign, all of the missions are modified. This round, one uses the Halloween "zombies", while mine is about salvaging because we all are short on supplies. I played last year with Generic Aleph. Won all the rounds, I always had options!
Chimera, BSG Bandit, Bran, Carlotta and Multi-Rifle Healer are all good options for dealing with heavies at 0 SWC. I still think Zoe and Pi-well.
It strikes me that the Mk12 Kriza would give you a gun with good 24" range and burst 4, both will be very valuable in a game with no SWC.
Yes, it's part of my troop selection, but the Oniwaban... and it has no big hitters (panzerfaust/blitzen) just Burst and damage... a Hac Tao negates him too well.
Lunokhod. Make it so he needs to trade the Oni for the Kriza kill. Also grab a Multi Rifle MB (your Datatracker). Intruder LT. Basically make him choose between trading for your gun or Datatracker.

Well, depending when Army updates the Oniwaban might not be a worry :P Also, the Kriza has about as good a chance of putting wound on a Hac Tao as an Intruder Combi, and less chance of taking damage in return. The only thing better is a CC trooper but then you have to get them there.
Nah, unless the Army updates before friday. And I doubt it (since they would have the whole thing broken for the whole weekend if a bug pops out). The Kriza would be firing at -9 to the Hac Tao... The Intruder just at -3 (and then account range bands), while the Hac Tao would go -6 for the Kriza, -9 for the Intruder Yup, tots an idea there! It also makes sure I can move out safely.
