Last year, for most of the year, I made a challenge to myself that I would use a TAG. No matter the mission or force I used, I had to take at least 1 TAG. I think it worked well for me. I found I love the big Long Wang. Sometimes you just need to try something! You thinking dirty aren't you? I found TAGs that can duo with an engineer or hacker have a great advantage. I always took a Shenji and found quick I like the deployable cover. I still did ok with no duos though. Like with my Wreaker in O-12. So, what’s some possible challenges this year? Here’s one I’ve thought of. Use the troops I think are “not good”. Sun Tze, Kanren, Crushers, all but the sniper Silver Snakes (The sniper got very good I think but haven’t played them), Edit: adding Nyoka. Anyone have some ideas for me or for themselves?
Making the KHAWARIJ (NCO, Multispectral Visor L2) work. It is so so expensive for a single wound model. I can see it as a flyer hunter on the active turn. Most of the times I play without a TAG, but I have many and most of them are painted. Maybe I should do the TAG challenge. But I know already will not do it every game. But I think I will use them more. Playing shelfguards are also a good idea. With a friend I startet a little map campaign and we do this as a "pool" campaing. We are both collectors and so we both use one fraction or this time in my case only one sectorial and play the pool of miniatures. For example you have a pool of 1500 pts of miniatures of one faction (customize that for your own collection(s)) and dived them in five 300 pts armys. Do not double any mini. Later you can may have to leave out the one or the other and/or fill up some lists with Troops/LI or "standard" REM. This are the only allowed doubles. So you have to play the "not so good" and also have to play missons with an non-optimised list. We have a lot of fun with that shema.
That’s my thinking on Crushers. They are expensive. They have NWI but such a low ARM that they usually end up taking 2 wounds anyway. I also don’t like midfield troops with no camo. Sun Tze is expensive but has good defense. But that’s it. After taking him, the things he brings are not worth it. One has a Thunderbolt (meh) and do I really want to expose my Lt.? Stratego lets you use his two Lt. orders, but I could buy 4 Celestial regular orders for the same amount. Ok he has WIP17 for the Lt. roll, but if I roll a 1 it doesn’t matter.
I might just try and actually play a game for the first time in N5; my NCA have rules now and I almost kinda like them. Local scene's nearly dead though.
NCA tabled me last week! They are good lol. Well, maybe it's up to you to get it going? I have found it's fairly easy now that the local stores have their own discords.
Playing focused on a specific sectorial instead of changing sectorial each week. Expanding on that playing units I rarely choose from the sectorial.
