The new stuff to come for IS. The Feiquan looks really cool to me but still the rules are meh at best. I've seen the Firebat in use and it's pretty good for picking off cheerleaders. Anything with low ARM and not good against Mim -6. The Feiquan would be fairly good if it had something better than a Multi-rifle. Multi-Marksman at least. They are very goofy looking to be but not in a bad way. Definitely unique. You know what it is right away. For me, one of them will be a proxy for a Dokkaebi since it's almost impossible to get the Daebak box right now. Boring AF. Looks like a Celestial with an SMG. I'm a bit disappointed. The profile is cool but this guy doesn't live up tot he rules. What's with the HUGE SMG? it's usually like a single hand weapon. It looks the size of a combi. And knowing CB, this will probably be the only Vanguard we ever see.
I agree the vanguard feels very low effort generic for having some of the cooler profiles and being a brand new unit to IS. Needs to go back to drawing board.
The Jinewei certainly are unique. There’s not much mixing them up for something else. Nothing about the Vanguard says “hidden deployment” for me. He also needs an E/Marat. All the SMG profiles come with an E/Marat. I may look for a proxy figure that looks “sneaky”. I can use the Vanguard for Bao SMG, or Kanren if I ever use them again, or maybe a ABH SMG that hangs out with Adil. Edit: also he doesn't look like MI. This will be my Vanguard I think. Another edit because I just found this. What I want someday!
Had to look a few times until I decided to like the Feiquan. I would prefere the EM loadout, but MR is okay. I would cut the gun and replace it on the nose. Jinwei are cool and unique. Good work, good loadouts. If this is a box of three the Vanguard will be in it too. But why she has this oversized SMG? Kinda size error? And yes I also expected something more fancy.
There is so many interesting Chinese mythical creatures you could have used to interject more style in the vanguard. Even something as simple as the helmet have some fu dog inspired design would make it better.
They have been making boxes of three for a while now. So I think it will be two Jinwei and one Vanguard. I would have liked that too.
A quick AI tweak just to give the idea. Id imagine letting a real artist run with it, vanguard could be way more visually interesting.
Qianfeng should've just been reworked kanren really. This sculpt looks like a generic celestial guard... Loving the jinwei and the feiquan though!
I will say the vanguard looks better as a painted model, still wish it had more character to it. The Jinwei are now my favorite out of the new stuff.
Yeah, the Jnewei is growing on me. They are odd but not in a bad way and they stand out from many other “bot” troops. I might still proxy the Vanguard. I guess one good thing is they don’t see the table until the second or even third turn. The actual figure might become a proxy for either SMG Bao, or SMG Kanren. I’m just sad that after one of each new troop is out, we will probably not see anything new for IS for another 5-10 years or so. They pretty much did that to Hassasin after they came out. I’m hoping we get a generic “be anything” Pheasant. I never take the red fury. I’d also like a Koga with a different weapon. New Bao would be cool, but I’ve been taking them less and less. I’ve made with, but never used, a Crane hacker. A Crane hacker with a Wu Ming tinbot -6 is powerful hacker! The Zhanying is great but there’s times you want something tougher. I think I made him for was Frostbyte.
But we are not finished. Even if we have to wait one or ten years for the missing alternate loadouts there are still Baos to update and I want my CG with MMR. The Vanguard with SMG covers pretty much all important loadouts. The BSG would cover non special-specialist and the LSG is a niche. Here it would be a great idea to give us a generic miniature with silenced pistol and para ccw ... one for all, but we get on oversized SMG (what the hell CB, this thing is huge! Why?). It would also be great idea to put 3 different weapons in the box (made from sio) to mount on her back ... Shenjins alternate profile is the TB (AP) (why they so this? one time its a AP-Thunderbolt and another time its a Thunderbolt (AP) or in the case of Chief Jeong a Combi Rifle (AP) and not a AP-Combi Rifle) - anyway the TB loadout gives CB the great opportunity to sell another single miniature, this time with two kinds of deployable cover (hopefully sio or uni, the turrets are made of metal, with is missed opportunity to feed the siocast machine and lower to price by 10,- €) and another stone-old Yaozao ... Jinwei are finished! Hurray. Another possible box could be: Two Baos and a Pheasant doc and/or Hsien MMR with CG MMR and CG SGL. He needs a Medikit in a firing ot threating pose. For sure. Yes! One with E-Carbine that can cover all loadouts, but if, it will be the hacker. I would guess they are next. If not there is something seriously wrong.
I’m not going to be too hopeful. It’s not like IS or even all YJ is like Nomads or CA sellers. If they do come out with new Bao, great. But they might do like they did to Hassasin. Come out with some new things then nothing for a few years. I think the time between the HB box and beyond box it took years before they came out with Alpha or Beta boxes. At least IS has gotten those.
Bao has to be the oldest IS models at this point. It would seem crazy to not at least throw 2 new ones into another 3 model expansion box.
I certainly hope they do. They don't have much choice after this next expansion. With it, it means there's at least one of each of the new troops. They have nothing but old left. I'd like if they did like the the Wu Ming and Zhanying set. They are a perfect Haris. They could do another of 2 Bao and a Pheasant or Crane.
Yes, the third is a hard one. I think at least one Bao is as safe bet since you can’t get them anymore. However, knowing them, they may do one Bao and the rest all singles of others. Candidates are: Celestial Guard (they’ve only come out with Combi-rifles, there’s still the Hacker and MMR. Kanren (there’s currently none in the store) Zhanying (they made a new sculpt of the hacker so they might come out with a BR version). Pheasant (the only available in the store is the new one in the set). Hsien HMG (The only one I’m seeing on their site is the Multi-rifle). Wu Ming (The current set is great but not able to make a full 5-man core). Dragon Lord (yes because the one that’s out now, is an exclusive). My wish list for IS is: Bao Sniper and Thunderbolt or Heavy Riotstopper (can be both SMG or LSG). Pheasant generic enough to look like anything. There’s still some White Banner I want too: Ye Mao ML Jujak ENG Daofei Hacker For IA I want: Liu Xing Spitfire and/or Multi-rifle
My guess would be two Bao (one will be the MSR) and Pheasant doc. They are a Zion team out of the box. Still some CG to provide maybe MMR, Hacker and SGL, but CB likes to mix.
