Hello everyone, I had an interesting game situation and discussion arise during one of my weekly gaming sessions. Context: Uhahu in her previous order fired a pitcher and successfully landed a deployable repeater just outside my deployment zone. The repeater covered a Fugazi Dronbot, Locust KHD, a Bolt and a Karhu. In her next order, Uhahu moved into LoF of my Fugazi. Uhahu declared to use Carbonite and split the burst, one for the Locust and one for the Fugazi. My Locust would declare Reset, and my Fugazi declared Flash Pulse. Ignoring the FtF between the Locust and Uhahu, my opponent and I rolled the FtF for Uhahu and Fugazi. We both succeeded but my success was higher than his. This prompted a short debate about FtF rolls against Comms Attacks. Other players in our group said that there are no FtF rolls against Comms Attacks except for Reset. A Flash Pulse is a BS Attack and therefore it would be a Normal roll for both players. On page 85 of the rules in the orange remember box states, A Reset only allows Face to Face Rolls against Comms Attacks and BS Attacks (Guided). However, the third bullet point in the effects section states, If the user is not making a Face to Face Roll (for example they are not the target of a Comms Attack), they will instead make a Normal Roll against their WIP Attribute. I also pointed out that a FtF roll is, When two or more Troopers act at the same time to try to thwart each other’s progress, Face to Face Rolls are used to determine which side acts faster and more effectively. (p. 25.) Because the Fugazi had LoF to Uhahu, and the Fugazi was within the ZoC of the deployed repeater, both troopers are acting against each other. Yes, they were using different types of attacks, but because they are both attacking each other, it must be a FtF roll. The group's argument was rules-as-written, meaning that the box explicitly stating only a Reset allows a FtF roll against Comms Attacks. BS & CC Attacks just make a Normal roll. How is it generally played and am I incorrect in this situation?
I can understand vs. Carbonite. The target can be immobilized before getting shot or something like that. But what about BS attack vs. Oblivion Spotlight, or Total Control? I can see TC because the control can happen before the shot.
I recognize this isn't the place to ask this since it has nothing to do with game rules, but why did you declare Reset and not Trinity with your Locust KHD? Otherwise, I agree with Iskander on how to play it.
All the skills you listed have the Attack label. Attack vs Attack is always a FtF Comms Attack vs Reset is always a FtF (non Comms) Attack vs Dodge is always a FtF
The Locust was Isolated previously so I could not declare Trinity. It ended up being bricked i.e., Isolated & Immobilised-B after that order.
