Of all the flyers, this one feels like the most glass-cannonesque of all. But that will be a damn violent canon. That 28 pts B3 Heavy Shotgun / HFT can completely go on a rampage with no concern for its own life and mess up badly with your plans. And it will most often (I mean, I imagine) drag more than 28 adverse points to the grave with him. On another topic, I'm unlucky with those flyers. This one is not in Hassassin, the only Haqqislam stuff I'm playing. No flyer either in Corregidor, which is the only Nomad stuff I play. Hopefully, I'll have access to one in Vanilla CA and maybe in JSA (even though it may just be for the new sectorial and Vanilla, while I'll probably keep playing "old" Oban JSA.
They add no wound incapacitation for ramah's flier, so has 1'5 wound. Qapu ones has 2 for they flier and one for the piloto. Cheers
Anyone else struggling with the Shotgun changes? Not having any type of template for the first time ever really changes their use. They no longer feel like a primary weapon that can punish clumped up targets. Units with Heavy and Boarding Shotgun suffer the most.
Comparing basic ghulam profiles with naffatun basic profile, It appears that shotgun tax become ghulam tax. Now shotguns fit the role for shooting with + mods in short ranges, making pistols useless with new rules (unless has ammo or be kobra or the one with template). Troops with options smg or shotgun are more question of taste and points. Cheers
I wouldn't call it struggling, but it feels odd. We have always paid a premium on our troops - especially the light ones, like Ghulam - as a "shotgun tax". But we had the LSG with its template mode (one way or another) to show for it. Nowadays, an N5 Ghulam costs exastly just as much as an N4 Ghulam. But an important option in his arsenal is gone. A Daylami got the template moved form their LSG to sidearm (Boarding Pistol has a B1 small template Blast Mode). It is still a downgrade form having 2 templates on a shotgun, but it is there. But Ghulam? What does the poor Ghulam have to show for the extra 2 points over a, say, Line Kazak - Terrain: Desert and Burst 2 gun that's +6 on face-to-face up to 8" away. Feels definitely odd.
I like the shotgun change. It will be rough to adapt but before, basically everyone had a template of some sort. Now, it puts some real value on the actual template weapons, especially the ones with extra burst. And yeah, poor Ghulam's. But they still have great weapon/equipment and FT options + that sweet WIP14.
It's faster to switch to your firearm than reload your main weapon?. Honestly beside the meme response I don't know, I guess everyone gesta a pistol because it's still a wargame and it's standard load out for most soldiers
Are you sure? Because my theory is, this is a leftover form N4. In N4, you had an in-game reason to have a pistol on a model with a combi: it was a CC option. And for troops with basic PH of 10 - like Ghulam or (if you want a combi-equipped example) Alguaciles, or Fusiliers, it gave them a DAM 11 CC weapon, so still an edge over basic DAM=PH CCW. Since pistols are no longer CC-applicable in N5 (save for Cobra Pistols, but that's a specific case and not applicable on basic infantry), the abovementioned reason is gone.
I have a hunch that the pistol is in a transitioning state right now in Army and will fade away. First off it is still listed as melee weapon where as it doesn't have CC trait. Second the Ectross doesn't have a pistol any longer except on the HMG loadout (to help out the range band).
It is an interesting proposition, but all models are sculpted with a pistol, would be odd if it was not included.
But in N4 there were multiple Profiles/Loadouts were a pistol just made no sense. Like the CombiRifle Morlock with PH 13 for example - no need to ever use this pistol. CC is on PH13 and Combirifle has better rangebands and more damage. that changed in N5 of course as you said. But in N4, I would also say, Pistols on everyone was for Fluff reasons..
Koni confirmed ghulam Sniper doesnt exit. Alguacil lost his Sniper too. "Koni, post: 480635, member: 23"]N5 Pistols are listed in the Melee column in the Unit Profiles, but apart from the Kobra Pistol in CC Mode they are not CC Weapons and cannot be used in close combat. In Ramah, Valeria should have BTS 3. Cheers.
