Forum down : why so often?

Given the date of the outage and the fact that it coincides with mine following the Windows 10 update on 30/08, I think that the server is having more and more hardware/software compatibility problems, without anyone knowing what to do to prevent them. Personally, I've been trying to reboot the system since saturday.

 

It's surely been this way for a long time now.

 

As an IT guy myself I have to share an truth we all have to deal with.
Due to late relegations worldwide and vegan dictat, it's been nearly impossible to perform it voodoo anymore as we can't sacrifice chicken or goat anymore on the altar of the almighty God of the bits.
I've tried using meat substitute with little to no results so far.

 

Some lesser daemons can occasionally be convinced with some frozen-and-thawed-victim, if you jiggle it - but be warned, none will be convinced by a simulacrum carved from tofu.

 

again, on Saturday. And again, during an event.

 

Seems mostly weekends too.

 

The forum's servers are hosted in a small room in the Amazon that floods constantly, please understand.

 

I don't know who they pay to keep the forums online but they're getting less than two 9's of uptime.

Even your basic cloud based providers usually offer at least 3. In fact, this level of downtime is enough that AWS would be giving you a 100% refund on their bill for the month. The downtime for this forum is actually atrocious.

Whoever they're paying to host these forums had better be cheap.

 

Strangely enough, the French forum, where there's no one left to do the maintenance, is super stable. The only breakdown there was 3 years ago when they forgot to pay the host on time.

I think they don't actually care about the forum anymore. They don't even make appearances here anymore. We have to get stuff from shitty discord to then be here.

 

Eh. They made 0 effort in establishing any community relations over last years. They clearly have no interest in it. Perhaps they think warcor program is enough for feedback. I'm sure one of these days the forum will go down and never get up again and everyone will just move on.
