Last chance to buy (October 2024)

I've also had some problems with big metal models that don't align or fit together very well, or with bent parts like swords. But I can just bend it into shape with my hands.

 

Sure, plenty of metal minis not aligning properly and of course not perfect, but easily fixable with sanding and bending the parts.
Never had a gap 3mm, like Crusader descibed.

 

I did on my Qiang Gao defiance mini. Had to fill it with liquid green stuff. It was where his arms connect. There must have been drift in the mould which on any mini regardless of material can be a pain.

 

Well, anecdotal evidence here, but - I had gaps so bad on my 2gen Maghariba (between upper and lower hull) I was convinced it had to be a miscast, and requested replacement part from CB.
The replacement turned out to be exactly the same as the first one. Took quite some greenstuff to fill.

Still, please consider it my input into the telling of war stories we're engaged in, right now.

 

As someone who assembled and painted over 1000 Infinity minis, I can tell personally metal is wasted on new stuff as some of it has less detail than Aristeia boardgame minis. And some of the new metal miniatures are complete shit like those Kosmoflot remotes that are literally 3 cubes stacked on top of some tank threads, and they somehow managed to royally screw up assembly of those models... Waste of metal, and we are still forced to pay premium for shit quality. So if this is going to be how CB proceeds with their models, I prefer to have bad models in plastic but cheap.

 

For me it is not easy to make metal parts fit together sometime. Cut here, bend this just a little, and so on...
Sometime I hate assembling design of miniatures.
It is harder than with plastic. But to be honest, only at the first part.
After that assembling goes perfect. Miniatures looks good.
Metal easier to fix if something was glued not right.
Easier to remove colors and make another painting. (the last two moments are individual, I guess)

Of course, if the quality would be lowered, I would not buy it.
I am buying good quality metal miniatures. They are pricy sometime. True.
But if I had to choose between terrible metal and terrible plastic, but lower in price... I would choose NOTHING.
See no reason to buy something if it is

Yes, i have some nightmares remembering new metal Maggie assemble. I need a lot of sandind, Green stuff and some pinning. Old female minis were difficult to assemble too, becsuse was too thin.

 

I like the new materials in theory, and so far each of them has been a dream to assemble. Cleanup and paint tho? not so much. So many flaws and imperfections don't appear til after paint is on them, and cleaning up the edges and surfaces always seems to create more mess and rough edges than it removes :(

 

Do you wash your miniature?
Once out of the mold a casted mini can still have "lubricant" on it.
This layer of chemical will prevent the glue and the paint to stick properly on the metal.

Washing your miniature in warm water with dish soap cleans it from this layer.

To allow the parts to bond quickly together you can stripe them with your blade before gluing them together.
The glue will grip faster (but still cure at a normal speed so don't be rough with the parts).
