Accordingly to latest Bostria interview Spiral will not longer be in N5! I did not understand or was not clear if they will be absorbed by Tohaa, becoming a Tohaa sectorial or definitively dismantle. Being one of my loved sectorial I am really sad for this news. Following the interview I understand that this is part of a needed reorganization to reduce the amount of armies and models. Nevertheless I personally always found Spiral and the idea of a mixed human mercenaries/Tohaa an interesting sectorial and I would have liked to be able to play them also in N5, even if it means a simple translation of the actual profiles with new N5 rules for cover etc. I know was not selling well but for the few people was playing them what do you feel and think?
If the spiral corps is indeed disbanded, it will be a major disappointment. For me, the spiral corps is a tutal army and its loss will be very painful. Although let's remember the global company and understand that everything was done to kill this army... pain, sadness and longing. I want to believe that the spiral body will not disappear at all, but there is little chance...
I think it's a shame, it was one of the more interesting sectorial concept-wise, though when looking at actual models and rules there was probably too much confusion and one-off weird rules for it to be sustainable. Since Tohaa are staying it's possible that at least some of the units will stay there, maybe with a chance of specifically Tohaa sectorial later on.
Honestly having buying patches, dices and many things I hope that they will keep the logo, the units and everything and just transfer them under the Tohaa army as a sectorial for undercover illegal black ops. In lore they can justify it as a sort of super secret unit that many people in the human sphere ignore or think is just a urban legend. I think that most of us will be already happy if they keep it and translate in N5 without any more effort from the company. I know that CB does not read here, but anyway please let us at least the possibility to play them...
Don't assume anything yet, Mr Salt Mine himself could be pulling our legs, with SC going to Tohaa as a sectorial, as part of the NA2 strip-down.
My friend got into JSA and myself into Spiral Corp earlier this year, and now he's being turned into a full fledge faction while mine's going out the door. Dam. I hope it will exist as some sectorial, I like some of the things Spiral Corp does that Tohaa doesn't, but it looks like I'm shifting to Tohaa regardless.
Here's hoping the Spiral-unique profiles, namely for the Taagma and Kriiigel, get moved to Tohaa proper. Will be a bit sad to lose the unique midfield control that Spiral brought with Helots, Draal, Clipsos, and Impersonators, but it'll give Tohaa a boost. Which we might need if Pheroware gets nerfed (Which it probably should, honestly, as it's non-interactive).
Shame, I really liked spiral. They had good flavour and interesting design. Hopefully a lot of their alien stuff just gets merged into tohaa proper
I always took Spiral to be one of those awesome outlier factions that showcased how good the game design was for Infinity, in that you could have a highly specialised force that was insanely good at a few things, horribly restricted on many others, and still win with it in a tournament. Spiral are one of my top-three factions for enjoyment (1:Shasvaasti, 2:O12, 3:Spiral), so I am pretty gutted if they've decided to ditch them all together. I have a lot of armies, and quite a few are getting retired to some degree in N5 (CHA, Spiral & NCA), but the only one that really sticks in the neck is Spiral.I know N5 is a sea change, and that this kind of thin was inevtiable, and overall I'm really excited for N5, and trust the game's writers. But yeah, ouch. Finally, I think in lore terms it makes much more sense to retire tohaa and keep spiral, adding more and more human units, to represent their dwindling tohaa troops after they collpased the gate; and in terms of releases, Spiral got their army box not that far in the past, it seems perverse to bench them while keeping the ageing tohaa in N5.
Lore wise, Spiral are terrorists caught red handed destroying Concilium prima, not existing anymore in the lore is the only logical path for them.
yeah and no. I mean there is a war raging on since the mid 1900s where one side was labelled as being terrorists, and they are still being very active half a century later. Since Infinity is about tiny little special-op operation, it would make sense that there exist Spiral cells performing minor spec-op missions (in the range of 150-400Pts). Spiral is military, but there are also civilians in it... Well, we'll wait and see the lore book how they explains the genocide of all spiral civilians. Or is it that the civilian suddenly see how bad their military leaders were and atones ?
Uh... I might be not up to speed.... guess i'm really not up to speed: whom do you call "a Spiral civilian"? Last time I checked, Spiral Corps was formed from the remains of Tohaa military forces trapped in the Human Sphere after the wormhole to Tohaa Space collapsed - they acquired some human mercenary company, and went, ahem, private contracting. Putting the term "genocide" in this context is... pretty unexpected.
Well...Technically, Spiral Corps is a civilian organization as the are not government organization. They, however, are a paramilitary organization that chose to commit terrorists actions and has justly been outlawed and declared by the 0-12 as enemies of the Human Sphere. Which, you know, is a very reasonable response to partially blowing up a planet.
Spiral corps were the "front" of the triumvirate the shadow organisation that manipulates Tohaa for their own ideas on how to win the war, after the Concilium affair there is no way they can stay as a coherent force and while the triumvirate can and almost certainly will fund criminal and terrorist organizations to (try) further their cause and steer the situation where they want it to go, a centrally organized military formation such as Spirals is probably not something they will try.
I've been told that it's all down to the right infusion in the oil that you sautee them in. Garlic and chilli seem to be the main ones.
As much as it pains me to be losing factions I've been very vocal over the years about how bloated the game has become. Sad that it's spiral on the chopping block but it's understandable
