Has anyone tried or wondered if the game would feel even more like 'it is always your turn' if activations happened one side at a time? Currently, you are doing all your activation and the opposite player reacts to your turn, but what if you spend one order then your opponent spends one order, etc... Has anyone tried, or am I talking nonsense? I might give it a go and see how it feels.

What if I have 15 orders and you have 10?

Quite aside from managing activation count differences, It would make for a very different game: Much of the tactical consideration in an active turn is a matter of removing obstacles (mines, ARO pieces etc) and performing the mission. It is a bit like solving a puzzle - "I remove this ARO piece, to let me advance my warband to where it can deal with that camo marker, which allows my hacker to reach that console".

I'm not saying it would be a worse game if activations were interleaved (I personally love the activation mechanics in Epic:Armageddon and Star Wars Armada), but it would be a different game.

I haven't tested, but I think you could delay activations, or make sure your latest order puts you in a position where you would be happy to leave it for the turn.
thanks for the link Bazlord Prime, I'll listen to it now.
and yes, it would be a different game most likely. I'll take a few models and test that variant out this evening. thanks, guys for the feedback.

Bushido has this. The one with less orders has a "pass". The other player can play twice or more. However there's much fewer figures in Bushido. I think I've had 8 figures at the most. Each figure has 2 activations like an order does. They can move move, move attack, etc.

That's the same in Malifaux as well (alternating play, pass tokens, fewer models etc). To be honest, I think I'd only ever played alternating play games in the last 15 years, before picking up Infinity. It's not uncommon

When you run out of orders they all reactivate, but they all become Irregular. Turn ends when player with higher order count uses last order?

Warcrow has a mechanic called "nobody left behind," where all unactivated units basically get to perform a move skill to catch up at the end of the turn. Could work in this scenario, too.
