So I'm a new player to Spiral Corp, got maybe around 10 matches with them and still figuring their nuance out. What possibly N5 stuff are ya'll excited or wanting for Spiral Corp? I know there is demand for more Tohaa and Spiral Corp in general, but anything Spiral specific you'd like changed?
True. But we can still speculate. I mainly hope Tri-Core will get a boost again or be reworked into something else but better. It's a unique rule Spiral has, but has been nerfed in N4 to levels where it's not worth bringing anymore. But who knows what's going to happen to the Tohaa rules in N5 in general?
There was talk about NA2 armies not being in Army at launch (though I've lost the source), so chances are you'll have to wait for some months for Spiral to be ported proper. The status of Tohaa was left more ambiguous, so it might be that you'll have to play Tohaa for a bit until Spiral drops, or it may be that Tohaa will also have to wait to be ported. That's assuming that Tohaa and Spiral get ported at all, though CB's track record means that's a pretty safe bet. As for update hopes, I'm hoping some of the N4 nerfs get undone to give Spiral its core identity back; namely the Taagma/Chaksa Triad returning, Brawler Core becoming viable again, and the Tri-Core returning to relevancy. More broadly, I'm hoping Impersonators become less oppressive (especially IMP-1), Guided attacks are less feast-or-famine, and retooling of lesser-used profiles across the board (for example: Longarms).
Considering how Tohaa was removed, and JSA has been promoted from NA2 to full faction... I would not assume there will be a Spiral Corps sectorial until its release. And even after that, I think unlikely Corvus will apply any changes directly to the sectorial, only to general rules changes (like renaming woulds to vita, or the like) and to the units coming from other factions (like updating the Brawlers for Druze and said change being applied into Spiral)
For my part, I wouldn't be surprised if the Spiral Corps disappeared, it's in line with the latest facts of its lore, in the Army all its entries are in the Tohaa Sectorial. If the Tohaa were to return to the N5, I think they'd refocus the Tohaa into a single Tohaa faction, but as with the move of the JSA, they could always put the SP in the Tohaa sector.
I'd expect that all tohaa will probably be under a legacy faction added later with a few minimalist tweaks to make them barely functional in n5. They've been on life support for a couple of editions now so I can't see that changing until the plot of infinity brings them back wholesale with a full relaunch
Looking back how CB treated Tohaa/Spiral players I Will be Happy if they will keep them in N5. I love Spiral and I am still convinced that they are original and fun to play (for example compared to the copied/boring techno-medieval japanese/JSA).
With how Samsa only got into Tohaa, Spiral, and JSA and the lore connecting JSA and tohaa I can see a sort of soft reboot or at least some attention given to the faction. Maybe not immediately but eventually. From the 2 player box silhouette poster some people are speculating that the figure in the back is a tohaa character and the lore connections I can see either tohaa or spiral being a bit of a sidekick faction or alliance to JSA and since we are now the poster boys maybe some CB love will trickle down.
Do people mean this poster? And their speculation is that the silhouette with the open jacket in the back might be a Tohaa character? Sorry, I don't see that. An open jacket doesn't signify anything really. And why on earth would they put a Tohaa character on a box art of a 2-player-battle box that features PanO vs. JSA? 100% that's a new PanO troop, not Tohaa.
With the hd image I don't really follow the track of a tohaa anymore, but there's this kind of stuff coming out of the arms like a tohaa fur, but maybe that's just background. And then there's the jacket. The character is also unarmed, which would mean a character like Pandora. I can only see 3 characters in this picture, including this one standing back with no weapons. Maybe it's that character from the animated series who looks like a tohaa spiral, it would make sense to include a character from the series to encourage purchase.
I hope you're right but I have a feeling there's some serious mental gymnastics going on here. Nothing CB have done recently indicates tohaa is a priority and they've said nothing in na2 is getting into n5 at launch anyway. Whatever we get won't be much more than another copy-paste until a full relaunch happens and that needs a lore-event to happen.
It'll certainly be interesting to see whether they actually have the guts to cull factions they have no intention of developing or whether they'll keep them on life support for another edition. Game can't expand forever, it's already really bloated.
I just bought 900pts. of Tohaa (maybe Spiral? I can't tell...) so they better keep supporting them...
I just hope Tohaa and Spiral Corps survives into N5. I don't expect CB to ever add to Tohaa in any way. It really feels like they regret adding Tohaa and wish it had never happened. So those who love playing Tohaa get to feel like an afterthought in this game. I used to have hopes and tried really hard to be positive. At this point I've almost given up. I just don't want Tohaa to be completely erased from Infinity.
I am sorry everyone, I feel like this is my fault. I played Sisters of Battle in 40k while they languished without a proper codex and were kept on minimal life support for a decade, and when I moved to playing Infinity I chose the Tohaa, and I fear that my wargaming curse has followed me to Infinity as well. However if there is an army in any other wargame you would like to make sure doesn't get an update for a decade let me know, and I will start playing them. Jokes(?) aside, I am minimally hopeful Tohaa and Spiral will receive some resurgence in N5 as the endgame story arc ended with an unditected distress signal from the digester being sent into deep space, (the two detected distress signals are what lead to the discovery of new wormholes, one of which had the planet JSA and Pan-O are now fighting over). It also sounds like there is a move towards giving generic armies access to a fireteam haris. Why I see this as a slightly promising sign for Tohaa is that they were stuck in a design space where they were a generic army that worked more like a limited sectorial. With other generic armies gaining haris options, it could help break Tohaa from that design space. As for what I would like to see for Spiral in N5 would be for them to become a full Tohaa sectorial. I think narratively this could be accomplished by the Trident reestablishing themselves in the Human Sphere and asserting control over this mercenary force as an arm of the Tohaa Military. I would also like the Taagma Schemer hacker to get a hacking device, or at least a program that was more than a "don't kick me sign" to other hackers. I think pheroware needs to be scaled back on unit profiles, but I would like to see more access to 'bombs and the reintroduction of the Symbiobug.
I am not going to ignite my flame of hope. Depends on how old factions are going to return in N5, I would see artichokes perspectives. I have no hope about most of NA2 now and especially Spiral. Remove Tohaa after they sold those tohaa combat force packs would not be nice.
