If been negative was a banable offence we would be short of quite a few members, clearly this is not the case.

As I said we have no issue on people been negative, its how they express it.

    Wow that escalated quickly!

My two cents as a non veteran player (5y I’m in and I paint more than I play).

I personally think that Infinity and CB is doing great. The game got as diverse as possible. The sectorials (even OOP ones like NCA) have never been as flexible as they are now, with tons of models, and miniatures as gorgeous as ever. Let’s also take Starmada as an example. At release it was unplayable. Now, it’s a more than capable Sectorial. So CB DOES care. They maybe have an agenda some of us would change, but they care.

Yes, I would prefer to have news Bolts and Ulhan instead of Zellekriengers and Uhahu (that are frankly redundant where they have been put), yes I would have preferred an O12 sectorial including Gamma, Omega, Lynx etc (that I love but don’t use because I don’t like playong with vanilla), yes I would like a revisit of the rules so that the game is a bit less hacking and template spam focused, which, to the point of Benkei, is constantly being pushed over to us by CB that releases Impetuous cheap warbands with Chain rifle like there’s no tomorrow.

By the way… Why? Do we want to create a more dynamic game? With a bigger emphasis on very close combat encounters? Good! Am all in. But the rules need a revisit, because we’re coming to a point where the worst gun you can think of is the Combi, and you’d take a Chain rifle over it any single day, because it’s not only cheaper, but it’s more reliable. It’s more reliable because anyway you never really activate a trooper with Combi to shoot at someone. You’ll instead activate a spitfire or HMG depending on range, and you’ll activate the impetuous chain rifle if you want to trade. Which is extremely easy to do since everyone and their mothers have access to cheap trading shotgun-y units. Except…. PanO.

Anyway, I’m not going to start with PanO problem again, but, when I compare now to N4 start, I can confidently say I prefer where we are now than before.

And I like Torchlight Brigade kit :)

The problem with evaluating DTW and to a lesser extend SMGs is how much their potential is shaped by the terrain and the tables density and if the opponent is using clustered units or not.

Yes and no. Take a Daylami… you just drop the guy in a well covered position, close to the corridor or objective, and then sip some hot tea while:

    - either looking at how many orders your opponent is wasting to get rid of it
    - either by trading your cheapo unit with a unit potentially 3 or 4 times the value

SMGs versus Combis: If the everything goes right, the SMG is great as you save many points. However, if things go wrong (Crits Happen) and you lose your shooters, a combi is much easier than a SMG for desperate gunfighting.

People complain about Combis, but they are still lethal weapons in this game.

CB did address the old sectorials. You have bolts in the reinforcement pack for PanO, for example. You have new azrail in the Haqq one and so on. They are not up to full availability, and they are worse than the non-oop sectorials but to be honest, almost no sectorial is up to full availability. Bakunin lacks SWC moderators, damnit!

The distribution of reinforcement profiles among sectorials is definitely not improvisation. Haqq, PanO and Ariadna got units from oop sectorials. YJ continued the trend with the introduction of the Korean units and CA continued the trend with the reintroduction of the bugs. O-12 ones were planned to fit in Torchlight. And NA-2 and Tohaa ones were strong things, but nothing new, because CB seems to be out of ideas there. The only randomish ones seemed to be Aleph and Nomads. Nomads simply don't need more stuff now and this led to some weirdness like the casino security and the marspiders (which should have been Corregidor imho). And Aleph needs a third sectorial, but CB is also apparently not set on anything there.

I don't really see what said 3rd Aleph sectorial could be, either.

Then again, I don't think it is set in stone every army has to have 3 sectorials (yeah, I'm lookin' at ya, PanO... ;) ).

Just adding stuff to old sectorials isn't really addressing the issue, it's a stopgap. To solve the problem older units design and cost should be looked at, and linkability rebalanced to fit the current design philosophy.

IRL you could call it a military reform. The timeline has, after all, advanced in-game - when I came to Infinity, it was HS N2 era, and the "current timeline" was post-Second Offensive on Paradiso.

Now, we are post- Fall of Concilium. And the appearance (and bits of fluff) of the Torchlight Brigade imply that there are a number of new exoplanets behind new wormholes. Since one needs some time to discover them, scout them, and assembly even a basic, low-key colonization effortto result in those frontier -style settlements TLB is playing as roving sheriffs for, I guess we're about to see another jump ahead in the timeline.

There are military units in the world that carry traditions literally several centuries old. Infantry formations who fought with pike and flintlock firearms, who have then been reformed, upgraded, re-equipped and are now armored infantry. Cavalry squadrons that carried lances into battle, but are now equipped with tanks or helicopters.

I see no reason why unit's statline, skills, equipment and available profiles couldn't be revised, updated and made fit for a new role.

It would be, however, nice - from a gamer's POV - to keep the physical miniatures relevant, though. A lightly-equipped Line Infantry trooper with a rifle is a lightly equipped trooper with a rifle, though.

Oh it could have been a whole lot of thing. The easiest one could have been "Knowing about the discovery of the new wormholes, Aleph has prepared an agile quantronic force, capable of jumping through them, exploring the unknown and holding its own in a fight. Without needing much support in terms of food, oxygen and warm blankets"

@Stiopa It is a step in the right direction. Can also call it a stopgap as well, if you wish. But yes, I generally agree with you.

CB does what it does and my lot in my gaming life is to buy or not to buy. There’s many games out there now. But I still like Infinity for both the game and figures so I keep coming back. CB is going to keep doing bad marketing. It’s a small company for hobbyists. It’s expected I guess. They are going to keep coming out with the least wanted profiles for troops. They are going to keep coming out at weird or bad times. I just know for TB they are going to probably come out with a set of one Moonraker and one Stormbot. Because you of course only want one Stormbot but two Moonrakers. They are going to keep ignoring the faction you love in favor of the one you don’t. But they won’t listen until they start selling less. Not when listening gives them the chance is to sell more.

NA2 built around Aleph units, captured CA tech, and some alien mercs, led by Odysseus, and travelling home the long way after taking a wrong turn through one of the wormholes ;)

    My god, this is glorious.
A NA mixed with CA-Aleph in a Odysseus theme with a secret agenda. Is Odysseus a hero or just a new CA menace?
Im throwing money to this idea.

I've suggested games where we can't spend any SWC points lol. The hardest hitting gun is a Mk12.

Can we get a points cost reduction or skills buff to Jamie? The removal of “Samus” name and change to her unit logo feels like a major nerf and now she’s not gonna perform as well in games…

    That looks super fun.

there are plenty of strong weapons without SWC: heavy shotguns, K1 rifles, panzerfausts, flemmenspeer, multi marksman rifles.

I will definitely want to try one game like this. I guess the dynamics must change quite a lot. Big buff to HI and more CC
