So there was a lot of buzz back and forth about this unit, and of course she/they aren't out yet... but has anyone played any games with them (as/not as Lt.)? I've been interested in trying her and was wondering if anyone had had any practical experience under their belt?
I had it used against me. It was not the Lt. version and used as a diversion and attack piece. It was effective too. It came up a flank and killed weaker stuff like my doctor. There wasn’t much I could do about it. It would get into positions where it could use its Guard and not be seen by anything else to counter it. I was playing a CC heavy White Banner and got my butt handed to me by it and something else I can't remember.
Not as a lieutenant, no, that would be a surefire way to lose to loss of lieutenant in the first turn, as only him and a select few unlikely lieutenants are wip14. With lieutenant rolls being public knowledge they can basically tell he is the lieutenant. I like the idea of replacing decoy for holoprojector (1). I'd be more interested and probably play him a bunch as a non lieutenant; because shell mindgames. CB can sell a two model kit, win win for both sides. As it is, no, too tough to fit it in a list; I've done some serious list building for nomads and Bakunin recently, with the recent updates, and only 2 of my 15 Bakunin lists have one: One is not a competitive list, and mainly utilises an HMG Moira with NCO. The other he isn't an LT and I'm seriously considering taking him and the warcor out (at 15 unit cap) and spending the 35p on more width of utility and an additional regular order. That's chimera + denma. It's 3 MBH That's Backfield Bran That's a spitfire riotgrrl That's robin hook + an MBH That's a cenobite + Evo hacker That's a killer hacker prowler. And for the cost of the LT.. That's 4 moderators playing 'who's the LT' over the full width of the game board.
I used it once in my Nomad HI list. HI lists have small numbers of orders, so the counter-intelligence skill is useful if I go first. Playing a 200 point game provides me with approximately 5-6 regular orders. Having only 1 order removed and not two make a huge difference going first turn round one. Having the extra Lt order helps. I use it for a Grenzer FO (NCO). Using two Lt orders on him helps get him into the mid-field and complete objectives. Unfortunately, the Grenzer died from an ARO piece using the first LT order, so I could not use him much. In another game I may get more use out of the Lt orders. For me, I find the silhouette is very large in a HI list. Having decoy does help, but only minimally. it is a 50% chance of which one is the real deal. The Demonist is more a tough Lt that can take care of itself. The Taskmaster is more survivable, but in lower point games, I find the Demonist an okay lieutenant option. I would say only for a pure or dedicated HI list though. There are better options for the "normal" Nomad lists on display. By "normal" I mean the usual style found in list building on YouTube or other internet sites. There seems very little talk or discussion about using Nomads outside of the community playstyle expectation, such as HI style, or pure MI. So far, with only 1 game, the Demonist was useful. Counter-intelligence skill was valuable, and the Vulcan shotgun helped kill an enemy trooper because of Continuous Damage. My opponent targeted the decoy so wasted an order from her order pool. Silhouette size is a problem however. Not many places to hide.
Atleast for Vanilla my main issue with the Daemonist is that Counterintelligence comes on a 12pt model, that being the Puppet master. You don't have to take any puppet bots. You can make a good argument you should because they are good. But I've had plenty of lists and especially in Tunguska where I only take him as a 12pt cheerleader and get counterintel as a bonus. Where I can see the payoff is if you are running Moiras or a Gator. Having NCO makes the extra LT orders pretty sweet. And there are some decent ways to blunt the impacts of LoL. Securitate are pretty cheap and are Veterans. It's really not much worse then something like an Interventor LT and those lists seem to do just fine.
Having access to CoC in vanilla is a buff but for a total of 65p I can't see it doing much. As you'll then either want NCO to utilise the orders, or a 15p Evo bot for firewall to use it as an attack piece. That's TAG price.
