As others have noted, Reinforcements options are... limited. So limited that it may actually be possible to list all the viable alternatives. I'm going to take a first stab at it here. Order Spam Even though we have Commlink(+2), it's impossible for us to fit 7 orders into 100 points since our orders are so expensive (cheapest is 14 points(!)). This is I think the largest possible Reinforcements Group (RG): Order "spam" ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 2 6 KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) RAFIQ REMOTE REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 14) HAFZA REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 15) HAFZA REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 15) SEKBAN REINF. Heavy Rocket Launcher, Chain-colt(+1B) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 21) 1.5 SWC | 93 Points Open in Infinity Army The 6th trooper doesn't have to be a Sekban, it can be anything up to 28 points. Unfortunately, our Red Furies and Spitfires start at 29 points, so they HRL is the only big gun that can fit into a 6-trooper RG. You can make a fireteam and put 9 orders into it (6 regular, 1 regular by moving the Commlink over, 1 NCO, and 1 Tac Aware on the Rafiq at least for the next few weeks). Unfortunately, you can't do much with those 9 orders because none of the troopers in the list is very strong. An alternative would be to replace the Sekban with a Burtuk. You lose NCO and can't form a fireteam, but you can at least try to go on some sort of solo E/Marat rampage with 7 orders. Spitfire Spam If you want to include a linked B5 Red Fury or Spitfire (or Djan HMG I suppose) so that you can actually attack, the most troopers that can fit is 5. You have a few options for the attack piece, though none of them is what you might call top-tier. Sekban RF has... 360 visor I guess? You can't make a pure Core to get the big BS bonus. Odalisque has NWI which is something. Djan has MSV. These lists all look basically the same: one mediocre big gun and four order generators that can link with it. My favourite option so far is this: Fear the mighty Rafiq ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 2 5 RAFIQ REMOTE REINF. Red Fury, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0.5 | 20) BURTUK REINF. Submachine Gun, E/Marat(+1B), AP Mines, D-Charges / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 27) SEKBAN REINF. Heavy Rocket Launcher, Chain-colt(+1B) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 21) HAWWA' REINF. (Hacker, Killer Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun, D-Charges ( ) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 18) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) 2 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army At least for this season, the Rafiq is actually one of our best RG shooters thanks to Marksmanship. It's backed by Remote Presence and an Engineer which also brings that sweet sweet e/marat. And this team gets 8 orders thanks to Tac Aware and NCO. I'm going to try this one out tonight and see how it does. Azra'il mini-rampage Of course, for 5 orders you can instead go the bloodthirsty route and bring an Azra'il Spitfire: Azzzzzy ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 2 5 AZRA'IL REINF. AP Spitfire / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 38) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) HAFZA REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 15) HAFZA REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 15) 1 SWC | 96 Points Open in Infinity Army This gets fewer orders than a fireteam (no tac aware or NCO) and only B4, so the Azzy will have his usual struggle to actually hit his targets, but as always, anything he does hit will disintegrate. I suspect this will be one of the most popular options. You can also drop one more order to get the points to bring Rouhani and duo him with the Azzy. Wound spam Suppose you don't care about attacking, you just want your RG to be a tarpit: Make'em bleed ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 2 4 ODALISQUE REINF. Submachine Gun, Nanopulser(+1B), Flash Pulse(+1B) / MULTI Pistol, PARA CC Weapon. (0 | 23) ODALISQUE REINF. Submachine Gun, Nanopulser(+1B), Flash Pulse(+1B) / MULTI Pistol, PARA CC Weapon. (0 | 23) BURTUK REINF. Submachine Gun, E/Marat(+1B), AP Mines, D-Charges / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 27) BURTUK REINF. Submachine Gun, E/Marat(+1B), AP Mines, D-Charges / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 27) 0 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army 8 wounds your opponent has to check through in order to get past you is, ok I guess? The problem is you're wasting 4 slots on orders you can't use for much in the active turn. I'm skeptical of this one but it's certainly an option to try. Slot economy Finally, you can decide to spend as few slots as possible on your RG, foregoing it as an attack group in order to maximize the size of your Main list. The smallest you can make your RG without throwing away points is 3 troopers. That gives you 14 slots for your Main list, not bad at all. By far the most appealing 3-trooper group I've seen proposed is this: How did they fit in the drop pod? ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 2 3 AZRA'IL REINF. AP Spitfire / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 38) AZRA'IL REINF. AP Spitfire / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 38) ROUHANI REINF. Submachine Gun, Flash Pulse / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 21) NASMAT REINF. PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 3) 2 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army Occasionally this RG may get to shoot at something, but usually you'll just spend its orders to put everything into suppression. Probably a better tarpit than the 8-wound option above, if only because it uses fewer slots. Also it just looks fun. I definitely want to try this one at some point. The downside is that your Main list has to be extremely effective in the active turn, so a lot will turn on how good a list we can make with 14 slots and 250 points after paying the Commlink tax. Those are all the archetypes I've seen so far. What others have you found?
I found that I can't wait for this season to end. I made a nomad RG with tsyklon sptifire, but stempler combi +1B is simply so much better because both being in fireteam, stempler already ignores cover without needing an EVO boost. I played a lot of Rafiq in QK, and it is time to move on to something else lol Since QK uses the same RG as haqq, here is my input : I think How did they fit in the drop pod? in supp fire is the best bet. Haris/Core requiring a Sekban is unfortunate so I wouldn't venture in Fireteam Reinf.
While the Emarat profile is wonderful, I would like to try the LRL: Firebase ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 SEKBAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) 2 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army This is my concept Reinforcements list. They come in as a 4-person Core and the Commlink Ghulam will move to their group for an extra order. With the Sekban NCO using the Lt order, that will give them 6 orders to do something and position themselves to hold control of the center.
I'm more interested in the Burtak in a haris to give him a B4 Heavy Flamer. Put him in with a Sekban (for NCO) and Rafiq (for Tac Aware) and that's five orders for the three of them to run around, climbing+ up buildings and burn everything to the ground
B3 I think. The flamer is natively B1, has (+1B), and gets a third B from the fireteam. But that's still a lot of fire. In addition to NCO, you actually need the Sekban in order to form the fireteam. In the end this is the same basic team I'm eyeing - Sekban, Burtuk, Rafiq. Burtuk for close range, Rafiq for 8-24, and Sekban for anything that's far away but can't outshoot a B3 HRL.
Ah... I was getting the Burtuk and Korsan confused. Korsan would be B4 Chain Rifle (with similar skills), kind of the Bargain-Basement-Burtuk
Here's another archetype: Two attack vectors Double trouble ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 4 AZRA'IL REINF. AP Spitfire / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 38) SEKBAN REINF. Red Fury, Chain-colt(+1B) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 29) RAFIQ REMOTE REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 14) HAKIM FTO REINF. Submachine Gun, Chain-colt / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 19) 2 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army The Azra'il is alone, and the other three are in a haris which gets tac awareness and NCO (the Hakim could be replaced with a few other options). You deploy the two attackers up to around 18" apart, so you get two angles to attack from.
I was so focused on the new stuff that I totally missed this long range option: MasterBlaster ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 5 SEKBAN REINF. (Specialist Operative) AP Rifle, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 24) DJANBAZAN REINF. Heavy Machine Gun / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 34) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) RAFIQ REMOTE REINF. Rifle, Light Shotgun, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 14) KORSAN REINF. Chain Rifle(+2B) / Heavy Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 14) 1.5 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army I ran the numbers and it is not bad against a pure linked Phoenix. I was surprised it was not better though: Active (0.68 wounds / order): Wins F2F: 56.0% Causes 1+ wounds: 42.1%, Causes 2+ wounds: 18.5%, Causes 3+ wounds: 5.5% Failure: No wounds caused: 34.4% (13.9% chance active player causes no wounds) (12.9% chance reactive player causes no wounds) Reactive (0.56 wounds / order): Wins F2F: 36.4% Causes 1+ wounds: 23.5%, Causes 2+ wounds: 14.1%, Causes 3+ wounds: 8.4%
There sure aren't a lot of long-range options. On the other hand, being able to drop the Reinforcements anywhere at the centre line means it's almost impossible for Phoenix to be deployed somewhere where you can't shoot him from inside 24". So the Djan Red Fury might be a better option. Part of me wants to drop in a Djan Sniper in a haris, though. Mostly for ARO purposes, but if you get Phoenix outside 32" in the active turn, you're 50% to wound him, 11% to get wounded. Dropping your Reinforcements that far back means you really need your Main force to still be functional enough to work in the midfield for three turns, but it maybe has an easier time after the Reinforcements pick off AROs at long range. Then again, it's not very useful against for example a linked Haidao...
Actually, if we're deploying the group for long range, there's no reason not to maximize our options: Edit: does not work, insufficient Djanbazans.
Why not? Reinforcements go Brrrr ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 4 DJANBAZAN REINF. Red Fury / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 31) ODALISQUE REINF. (0 | 14) 6.5 SWC | 350 Points Open in Infinity Army Idea here is to go full core. Burtuk/korsan for short range, Rafiq medium and Sekban long. Hawwa can try to walk in and out of enemy repeaters and nuke single hacker at a time while tanking other hackers, Burtuk is gonna fix her up next order. Or you can always just send unhackable C+ Korsan after the repeater. In normal part of the list 1st 3 units are 1 team, another 3 2nd team. You can choose which is core and which is haris, as you will want to drop the core for reinforcement team.
I'm interested to see (and try) these reinforcement groups that make use of Djans and Sekban, and what their results on the table are like. All the groups I've tried so far haven't included them, as they aren't really profiles that inspire me a ton. But maybe there is merit to it? It's not like they are inherently bad shooters, they are just normally out competed by standouts like Knauf, the Mukhtar and the Asawira. But when they have what is effectively infil HD with (near) perfect information for their deployment? I haven't found a pure five man Sekban core based group that I like a ton yet - you can make it happen, but you need to stack up on Sekban, and you end up without much utility. Outside of Djans and Sekban, the Burtuk LRL also seems like a decent point-man - B3 dam 14 LRL with mim-3 with BS12 or BS13 in an impure five man seems pretty neat. Hell, I'd prob run it as a point man even just in a haris. I think either impure five man cores, or pure four man cores are gonna be the way to go, if these kind of fire teams end up being viable.
It's interesting to see so many five- and even six-trooper reinforcement pools being suggested here. My approach to reinforcement groups is that I'm often not going to see them until turn three, and that they therefore need to be at the lowest possible opportunity cost to my primary list while being able to do their job. I think four troops is the most I've taken in a reinforcement pool outside of NA2 where I've stretched to five. The idea of taking six reinforcement troopers feels like it impossibly compromises my main list. Something like this is what I've liked for Haqq, although if I'm running Saladin Lt I'm quite happy breaking the haris team and trading the Sekban out for a KHD hawwa and nasmat and just going all in on short range and playing to the doctor/engineer capability otherwise: ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 4 AZRA'IL REINF. Played 2 REF games with Haqq Vanilla and QK. REF QK: Azra'il HSG, Sekban Specialist, Rafiq Rifle/LSG, Burkut HFT - all REF entering in Turn 3 - no real impact as I was leading in points before and after REF - Azra'ils 3 Templates are awesome REF Haqq Vanilla: Azra'il HSG, Burkut HFT, Sekban HRL, Al'Hawwa KHD - all REF entering in turn 3 ... again - no real impact as I achieved all mission points with the Farzan in my main force - Azra'ils 3 templates are still awesome So far I am quite happy with this 4 man REF group. I lost the Commlink guy in every REF game so I had to stick to the 4 orders I have. Azra'il HSG Kill count so far: 2 Jujaks, Samsa, Brawler Doc in 2 games with 1 order in each game
