Heartily agree with what @SpectralOwl said about Bao, especially: Biometric visor and Impersonate are one of the weak points of N4. A fix would be handy, but would probably involve rethinking the way Impersonation works. It's not one of the game's most high-priority patch needs, but definitely on the list of "things that would be cool if we can make them actually useful." BTW, if you want to encourage unusual unit choices in a tourney setting, check out the Last Resort mission over on The Dice Abide. It encourages use of Biovisors to strip Impersonation off of some HVTs. Good bit of fun, and you could see some troop profiles like Bao fielded that otherwise rarely see the light of day.
If they just made it that Biovisor treats Impersonation 1 as if it's 2 then it would be great. As mentioned Bao have competition within ISS and Vanilla. They are not bad but not great either. The next troop that needs "something" is the Crane. I can't remember the last time I bothered taking a Crane in ISS and never in Vanilla. Again they have competition within Vanilla, not as much in ISS but if i'm taking a HI in ISS, most of the time it's Hsien. Secondary the Wu Ming. Both of those troops have Tinbots. A Crane can be added to a team with them but it's adding a big expense. I tried making Wu Ming tinbot with Crane hacker but it's a big investment I don't like. But man he'd be pretty cool. WIP14, BTS6, Stealth, 2 wounds, then tinbot-6 on top of that! But a Zhanying hacker is almost as good for half the price.
Lots of factors, really. They're a gunfighter that's merely average at shooting, surveillance unit that can't surveill, hacker unit without hacking devices, breach-and-entry unit without D-charges, and thugs too weak and incompetent to punch anyone. On top of this, Rui Shi, Devas or Hsien steals their lunch money. To add insult to injury, their minis look derpy as the proportions are off. :D Don't get me wrong, a unit can be selected based on compromises. Djanbazan are excellent examples of that, as it is only recently that Haqq has started getting enough units that offer better compromises on MSV that the simplistic Djanbazan is starting to really show its age. As is the case for Bao, but units that offer a better compromise has been in this faction a lot longer, so Bao need to be reimagined into something different to stay relevant and be selected into lists.

Sorry - but it lacks an active shooter. HRL in a fireteam may work, but B3 is not enough. I would at least upgrade the Deva to spitfire and downgrade the HRL Wu Ming to panzerfaust.
Sorry I said Deva instead of Dakini. At most the Dakini sniper can. be changed to HMG. But this is the problem I was trying to point out. By taking a Crane HD with Tinbot guy, you spend so much that it can hurt the rest of the group.
So I’ve been away playing TAK for last 12+ months and with the upcoming 2 day event Burn City Brawl in Melbourne coming up signaling the likely end of the my TAK cycle I have begun to peak back at my ISS lists and inventory looking to use some new profiles that I’d not prioritised previously. In writing this list, I initially sought to utilise the Crane, the swc bonus/discount and two HMG TR bots to offset the natural ARO weakness of the faction. Though once I made the initial list (1.0) I felt the list came with a nice natural balance. To enable him to approach you want convenient smoke and some additional bodies to help in the destruction, which is why I feel the KS core is the right fit for him. The core contains the minimum requirements for you to be able to push forward, take ground in the midfield. You also have a good platform to throw smoke from +1B/BS and visor allows crane to take unfavourable fights from outside 16 against single wound ammunition if you must. Harris w CoC To benefit from the Crane’s SWC bonus it needs to be your LT and as mentioned above my belief is that the Crane should be played aggressively. Which means that he is likely to die requiring that you bring a CoC. This link is unlikely to venture forward The CoC Pheasant I feel best suited is the KHD, as it allows the option to Cybermask should you need, which doubles should you need a specialist to push forward with Dakini MSR provides a good platform to outrange enemy ARO TAGs, HRLs and core linked Missile launchers. Mim and b2 provides good throw away ARO. Dakini paramedic is a good 6-4 specialist once the link goes down/Cybermasks. Non-CoC Harris This link is likely to venture forward and do objectives and gunfight Dakini HMG provides the gunfighting platform. With EVO bonus, bs 5 HMG/mim-3 is the factions best gunfighter Deva hacker is a wip15 specialist and hacker who can deal with HI/Hackers/Tags the HMG cannot get near. XiZheng allows for ARO forking enemy hackers with mantraps as well as protecting the deva/Dakini from advancing hackers. Plus generally amazing specialist/allrounder TR Bots I would be trying to be disciplined and bring these guys into the fight turn 2/3. I would not be putting them in danger turn 1 unless absolutely necessary. Groups: Group 2 contains main gunfights(Lunah and Dakini HMG) to clear the rooftops to ease the path for the core links onslaught. Note I made 1.1 and 1.1.1, including to try both SJ profiles. Although I feel the HSG is the better profile and allows the 4 man Crane link to have a b5 spitfire. I feel the Spitfire gives the SJ a better hit and run ability, as it isn’t as taxing on orders. Core: Big change is that the link is down to a 4 man. Making smoke less reliable and link slightly less ablative should you decide to hunker down up the board. Though, I don’t think it significantly changes how much damage the link can do should you choose to go deep with it. CoC Harris Retained a break away specialist in the CSU, utilised the Law&Order Harris Bao Sniper is not a vanity pick… okay maybe a little. However, I think it genuinely works in this list as it still gives the list a way to outrange HRLs/MLs and smoke shoot TAGS should you need. Whilst also giving defence against warband/smoke troops. Non-CoC Harris Taowu allows for shell games, benefits from the added smoke in the list to allow to get into CC. Counterintelligence helps the SJ/list with first turn play CG monitor brings another source of smoke to the list, allows for KS Free Range KuangShi allow you to put pressure into midfield without risking either Harris. Additional template defence from close in assaults Groups: 9/6 split intentional, should you feel the SJ needs more orders to attack with. Also allows for double assault (core link and SJ Strengths/Weaknesses: Good and diverse range of guns from long/medium range. Good ARO. Although we lose a TR bot, we gain 2 Free Range KuangShi for close in template defence. Safe from LoL Better ability to strike into midfield, SJ and FreeRange KuangShi Two sources of smoke Counter intel and shell game Worse specialists Mimetism is still a problem for the list. Whilst upgrading the RuiShi and weakening non-CoC Harris Core: Adil’s veteran ability allows him to avoid LoL from Isolation. He also brings a breaker combi to diversify the weapon types in the list Kuang Shi BSG is a great addition to the link. With number 2 in the link and mantraps, this allows for a very strong ARO fork. Coc Harris We’ve seen this iteration of the Harris. Non-CoC Harris Downgrading the CG to Forward Observer allows for the Harris to sustain 2 specialists and still allowing for SWC to have a RuiShi MSV2. I really enjoyed making these lists and I really think there are some good options here. Now they just need some playtesting. I hope breaking down my approach to list design is interesting and maybe even useful to others I would love to hear peoples thoughts on these lists. Which do you like the most?
