Gladly, we are not in MTG. Rework rules and units would be better than removing them. (we had enough pain with that (Safe Squalo MK1!) . Profiles are not printed on miniatures. Yes, it requires some work, but it is an important part that should be done. I am really waiting, what CB would do with it. After all it was told lots of times in different places, that this event is some kind of focus group for them to make changes for future.
They might do something like they did to address CA Avatar dominance previously: Weaken the profile, and increase the cost of Tagias and Imetrons. But we will see if and when they make a change.
I believe their balance passes are tied to Army updates, if I remember correctly from Warcor seminar next one is months away, so nothing will change anytime soon me thinks. I am sad Vaulsc is not doing Infinity so much anymore, think whatever you want about the guy, but he managed to influence CB the most to make changes. And most other Infinity "influencers" are just kissing ass for free stuff from CB.
Thanks for this comment, I appreciate it but also need to make the correction that I've said I'm "doing less infinity" not doing "zero" infinity. Current goal is to make 1x infinity vid per 2-3 conquest vids and roughly stick to that kind of ratio. I still play infinity casually with my friends just without making a batrep all the time. And I don't know how much effect I've had on CB, it can't have been much if anything ;) Lastly: please watch Tablegame Funtimes. thanks ^^
Bluntly, there doesn't seem like any hope for better balancing in this game as long as there's people who are against *any* criticism of the state of balance like @psychoticstorm doing their best to avoid commentary on balance being a thing. Instead CB is upping the points on PanO remotes; there's no indication that playtesting has any relation to the way the game is actually played.
I remember psychoticstorm saying nothing is wrong with crits in N3, but that still got changed despite him fighting against comments on that mechanic and his group being testers.
There are some balance issues with rules that do not allow interaction with the opponent (like Eclipse, GML), issues with fire teams (like nullifying impetuous handicaps), low cost skills compared to base stat cost, etc. These issues are not very problematic for separate, but in N4 units have a lot of skills, modifiers and weapons, so it is easy to produce powerful interactions that covers a lot of fields at very low cost. From a game design perspective, there is only one real solution: update all profiles to be underpowered. Fewer skills, modifiers, and weapons in profiles makes units easier to balance, easier to play, and makes units feel more unique.
This is at least semi off topic and definitely not adding anything to the thread, ill answer it though, if you think nothing will change (despite ample historical evidence on the contrary) why participate on the thread or create the original thread? I think what you refer to is me saying that the N3 rule that made an extra critical on the roll of 1 is the same as the trooper having mimetism, well on some troops that had it it was replaced with mimetism, in others it was completely removed, but I will agree it is not an individuals opinion that matters but a plethora of opinions, ideas and concerns that shape the final decisions for something.
Hope? It's a thing hard to kill. Also: Historical evidence on the contrary exists, true, but it is rare, and even rarer to be well explained by CB.
Looking forward to season 2, if you ever feel it. In the meantime, I'd love a special episode with some guest stars after the regular cast get fired after the first act. Call it "Tablegames Funtimes: Reinforcements".
It is -hilarious- to see the woe-is-me-ing over CB's supposed immobility. Compared to most larger minis games, CB's development is an open book. Sure, fixes take months or years. It's not banking software, it's toy space-soldiers folks.
Sure it may take months or years, but when it takes that long and the changes are ones that are not needed or are inconsequential then customers start to get annoyed and frustrated that. Admittedly there have been a couple of needed changes, mainly to CA, but those have been so far and few between, while egregious examples of OP units have been allowed to continue as is, that it's making people not want to play he game.
Jazz? Points increase and she now render any fireteam not pure. Avatar? Multiple nerfs. Taigha? Pts increase and skills nerf. Bit+Kiss? Lost +1b pitcher. Id say that CB do listen and do act, but a) they can sometimes move quite slowly and b) their decisions are pretty opaque. Infinity is an amazing game, with pretty good balance overall, even if it can be frustrating to watch CB ignore key problems for years at a time.
I'm not saying that those were not good needs, and much needed, but when CB does unneeded nerfs such as increasing the points costs of Bulleteers and Peacemakera while ignoring Morans, Uberfall Kommando, Bearpodes, Pheroware, Eclipse Smoke, Guided Missiles, Libertos, and I'm sure many others then it feels like they don't respect their customer base, or even worse, don't even understand how their own game is played.
While I agree with several in your list, let's not go so far as assume that CB having a different opinion on what is fun and what is balanced amounts to disrespect. I'm sure we can just all join together, if we try hard enough, and be amused at the PanO part of the community being upset about points nerfs that Yu Jing and Nomads accepted with a shrug. Or the Squalos whinging.
I used a qualifier when stating that nothing would change. I would actually disagree with that. It's in fact very opaque and obfuscated. The design team almost never gives their rationale for things. Things do change, but because some of them seem very out-of-left-field to fix what ain't broke and problematic things get left for years it doesn't inspire confidence. It becomes disrespect when accompanied by the idea that CB is beyond criticism.
Remind me what points nerf Yu Jing and Nomads got that Pan-O didn't? I think I missed that one. Eh, that one is fully justified. I'd be just as fucking pissed if they deleted the Guijia.
In the hypothetical alternate reality where CB were pursuing that stance, then yes. In this reality, that's just community members thinking someone else' opinion is invalid instead of respectfully disagreeing with it. For example, someone who played SP might've been thinking that SP felt weak and in need of an upgrade above all others prior to CB doing just that, and while I would vehemently disagree with that, I'd still have to respect that, and especially since they probably played more games with SP than I did and have more emotions vested in the faction than I do.
