To be fair, the Clipsos is a Hidden Deployment mime-6 BS11 "basic" infiltrator, and in this case is basic "shock" sniper rifle. Having regular smoke would completely nullify it... it is also an odd choice, like using a Kunai sniper (removing all melee capability and more, that is), the unlinked Nikoul worries me more (MSV1, foxhole, BS12, Viral sniper, and base ARM 1 instead of 0), he may have chosen it specifically because of the SWC cap too (Clipsos sniper is 1 SWC, Nikoul is 1.5). Having mimetism-6 and a camo state, however, deals with one of the weaknesses of a sniper in an eagle's nest in Infinity, that being Coordinated orders, since it will be rare that a player will deploy 4 MSV (and even rarer still to have them all unlinked and with LoS to the sniper). care to share the list? I assume since you had to deploy a Celestial Guard with Commlink, it has to be ISS, and since you state that you had to leave behind the 0.5SWC LGL (which I assume is the smoker) you had no Kuang Shi (why??? 56pts and 1 SWC are 1 commlink, 4 Kuang Shi and 1 smoke LGL, enough fuel for orders, and you don't need to even link the Kuang Shi anymore since the impetuous order is optional now)
It's such a weak ARO option. A single unlinked BS13 HMG reliably guns them down. When you're talking 4 dice on 7s vs 1 on 11s it's like 40% to score a wound vs it. Even if the Clipsos catches the target in the open on the first order it's still in favour of the active unit, and that's without even considering fireteam bonuses. For this unit to dominate the table the terrain has to be set up something fiercely fucky, which is hinted at when he's complaining about how much of the table it could apparently see. It just isn't a statistical powerhouse in any sense of the word to be able to cause that much damage otherwise.
It was a bad decision on my part. I should have taken the side he had. It was hidden but he could have also saved it for his last trooper to put out. He did a -12 against my TR bots. then killed the sophotech and then a Kanren. I should have brought out my team closer to his team that got one of the supplies. Draal APMR Symbiomate, Keil-San RF symbiomate, Kauri FTO. I think my team could have take them on and not been seen by the sniper. There's a 2-list tournament coming up with Mindwipe, Counterintelligence, and Supplies. I used the list that was for CI. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 CELESTIAL GUARD (Commlink [+1], Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle / Pistol, CC Weapon. If you are getting both TR bots engaged at over 32" by a single camo guy your table is either too open, your TR bots are placed way too exposed, or quite possibly both. I'm also assuming the Kanren and the Sophotect died to something else as well. Final question, why did you not just shoot the Clipsos with the Dakini HMG? Even without marksmanship it statistically overpowers the Clipsos at 5 dice on 6s vs 1 dice on an 8 at something like 49% vs 13%.
It wasn't that open, I put my TR bots too open. I know it's all about my mistakes than anything else. Dakini was on far side of the table and being able to get too see him I'd have to get past the Draal team. I'm starting to think Vanilla is the way to go. I feel way to constrained on what I can take and do now.
Lowering the points limit adversely affects sectorials because they run fireteams, news at 11. You have 50 fewer points to build the core of your list that is expected to do the heavy lifting. What exactly were you expecting to be the result there when 300 points already had list diversity problems? EDIT: Actually really it's 60 points down given the commlink tax
ok, so first things first: If you have a single engineer/doctor (even more if she's your only one) I would never go without at least 1 servitor, 2 are better, and Sophotects must start under total cover. I loathe single-troop groups, frankly. I also prefer not to use hackers for scoring objectives (unless they are mandatory), and I don't think the Reinforcements group is too great, frankly. Never feel obligued to go for the fireteam links. And I would have tried to slot in a ninja KHD. Then again, I know nothing of your local META (and whoever tells you "there is no local META", I suggest not paying much attention to them, since merely the presence of an unlikely sectorial can change completely how people creates lists... not to mention knowing the amount of scenery available and how many tables need to be set up, and how so many strive to make scenery in "sets" or "themes", so only the table's disposition may change at best). Anyways, I think you try to deploy a battle line exposing several ARO troops that are not all that greatly placed, and too much exposed. I would suggest as the first step to make some geometry to find the good places to locate ARO weapons (specifically, how HRL, HMGs and ML love to be on the center of your DZ, how to deploy ARO pieces so the opponent needs to burn orders just to engage them one at a time, always assume eagle's nests will have a hunter, how ground ARO can be even better than nest's ARO, etc...). If possible, try to vary the places you play at, the tables, and the opponents, TTS can be, if a little clunky, a great learning tool.
It may have been against Tohaa too (he mentioned only the Clipsos Sniper, present at both at the same cost), they have the same impersonators (just less profiles for each), but frankly, only Jan Staar wants melee and that's using his viral gun mostly...
I hate to say it died to the hidden clipsos. It was just a dumb deployment. I will say I was distracted at the game store. But whatever. No servant because I didn't have points. Sacrifices made. I was also using my Countermeasures list. Some of the things I need to do can't use a servant. Anyway, reinforcements. The Hwarang is pretty good with the combi. It sucked a bit with him having 6-2 move and others 4-4 but not horrible. The Sulsa hardly got used. The Sulyong FO did get a supplies but mostly I felt his msv was wasted. I should have had a long range weapon. Why the hell do they always give specialists shitty weapons? Especially YJ.
I need a different mindset for 250 points Invincibles, have not found a nice concept to work for me, White Banner is far easier to do so, but I have not settled on any reinforcements structures yet.
All of the expensive factions have a problem with this. "expensive faction discrimination". PanO, Yu Jing, O-12? are going to have a bit. harder time than Haqq, Nomads, Ariadna. I can fill up 250pts no problem with Dashat but it's not easy for any Yu Jing for me. I've started some SP too and they have been pretty difficult to fit 250pts as well. At least aleph has cheap reinforcements.
It utterly break the dual myrmidon core list, OSS I find a lot less interesting than Tunguska (I will most likely proxy the Arjuna, since they are now usable profiles, at least as reinforcements, but I simply dislike the miniatures), and Vanilla can adapt very easy anyways thanks in part to all those mercenary profiles (ugh). Even so, I'm getting tired of deploying in half of the DZ because of lack of bodies -.-U
Yeah it seems a lot easier to be flanked now. It's a bit why I'm taking more TR bots. Also because only 1 SWC. I'm trying a lot more 1 SWC profiles I think. Red Fury Pheasant, Zhanying HMG. I'm already doing the Deva Spitfire and Dakini HMG.
I took the Dokkaebi today. It dropped in bottom of turn 2 about 20" up the table, fired pitchers next to a core link and enabled the Son-bae to delete 2 Suryats. Being able to deploy wherever the hell you like in the middle of the table means with a 16" range band and 8" worth of repeater you can strike deep into the enemy DZ if you want to.
Beware the usual problems this units have... low BS means a -12 force a dodge or automatic fail on at least some of them, others have range issues, etc... High burst and 306º visors are good (you can exchange the TR with being in Suppresive Fire, after all), but you should remember that a Kuangshi is a traditional defender (moving mine...) for a reason ^^ (even with a damage 13 chain rifle). Mostly like using a Heckler with Fastpanda on turn 1, I'd say
Was the sonbae also in the reinforcement group? Believe me I know! It's what happened to me in my last game. Something I'm working on for sure. Due somewhat to the comms Celestial. I'm finding it hard to add in the KS. I'll put in the Celestial controler but after I have everything else I want, I can maybe get in one KS. It's a bit backwards that I need to sacrifice other things to take them.
Adding this for drooling over. It's not the HRL I wanted. They never do the one I want :( Damn you Spitfire Mowang and Liu Xing!! But he's still cool. Going to be shit to store with the sword up like that.
Oh man, that's a really cool sword, I'm sure that thing will do some damage in- > CC 15, Para CCW (-6) I really, REALLY hate that CB keeps doing this.
