This. The problem is not that people don't buy non-anthropomorphic aliens, it's that few companies have done a good job sculpting non-anthropomorphic aliens. This is equivocating. Sure some of those forms are familiar. The fuggly 'Nids still didn't sell well (RIP orcy sac-launcher), and the beautifully-made ones that aren't straight Starcraft did pretty well.
Has anyone found a decent build to fill out the reinforcements if taking a Caskuda as reinforcements? Even if playing the Caskuda for rule of cool, the rest of the reinforcements seem to not be that great..
I don't see why you would. There's nothing that the Caskuda does in its reinforcements incarnation that's particularly attractive. It's got bulk, I suppose, but by the nature of the game mode, you're putting it in so much danger of hacking and CC with the reinforcement deployment.
With current point costs of our reinforcements it's not good. I'd rather have a Haris with a m drone n something useful and another duo with an other tool. Thus 5(6 with comlink) and to tac orders. Much more valuable than a cascuda with at most 4 orders and a tac awareness order
TBH I find the option of starting Protheion units basically in melee with targets more attractive way to get multiwound models than going for the Caskuda
Well it's still the best thing for facetrading we have in the reinforcements, and the most you can get with it is two more models, in a vacuum you probably want an NCO specialist to press a button without draining orders from the caskuda, and umbra legates cost almost as much as it does, so that leaves you a choice between void op KHD or a nexus HD, the latter I like better because of at least some BTS and a better dodge, plus the E/M mines are a nasty piece of kit, however I prefer to start all my reinforcements combat groups with a CoC EXOs since that guarantees you will have all your orders when reinforcements arrive so that's all 2 available SWC, so void op it is. For now you could also get two M-drones with tacawareness, even with nanoscreens, but I wouldn't count on that being a thing in ITS15. Base op engineer is also not a bad choice, it can repair caskuda or something in your main list if you need, and shotguns on demand in the midfield are always good to have.
It's a strong model geared up for short range combat. It can be quite effective at cleaning midfield threats and it will kill most other armored models too. Plus, it's nearly 10 points cheaper in the reinforcements version and gets to use its tac awareness order on the first turn it shows up.
I've played 6 games now with Dual Caskuda - drop and reinforcements. Based on this, the Caskuda is not good. Its weapons are OK up close. It is not a good gunfighter at any range unless it can get a target out of cover within 16". Vs targets in cover at that range it is ok. But at 17" it's effectiveness just nosedive off a cliff. To fight in these ranges, it has to get in range of every weapon in the game that can take out a TAG if one is foolish enough to close - boarding shotguns, SMGs, e/m grenades, hacking, etc. The caskuda has no real defense against them other than hoping for good armor rolls. Cassie lacks even a shock ccw. I think of Cassie lost Remote Presence and the Remote Pilot and gained the Exrah rule, with a 20pt price drop, it would be viable. Without it, Caskuda is just all-around less capable than every other equivalent priced unit in the CA.
I said that 1.5 CAP for a combi makes me fell uncomfortable. AP dmg 15 combi, yes, but a combi in the end. And now that somebody tested it with that conclusions I keep saying that Caskuda is pretty cool and original but nothing more
It's worth noting that Cassie has 10 Skills/Equipment, but 3 of these are nerfs that adjust its stats lower in certain situations, and 6 just get it to being a baseline TAG. The only actual special thing it has is Combat Jump Explosion. Thing is, Caskuda is almost really good. Nearly everything in Infinity is a matter of small differences. If Caskuda got its full dodge instead of 11, if it had a nanoscreen, if it had ECM Hacker -3, if it was cheaper, if if if. It won't take much to fix it, and it shouldn't be an unstoppable machine of death, but right now you are better off taking the Overdron HRL which costs the same points and is arguably better at the same role. Overdron at least gets a shock CCW which is more than the Caskuda.
I agree, Cassie is a baseline TAG with shortrange B 3 weapon. I believe deployment is a key here. It might be tricky against hackers - true. There is no good protectiong againsts cyberware. Yet I recognise it's potential - it's still a combat jumping TAG! Can't wait to throw it onto the table. Biggest nono I find is not the Combi, nor CC (which is better than mentioned Overdron despite weapon 'couse CC and dam) but explode damage. Why 12? It's so weak I'm afraid to land it near line troop. The odds of dodge / survival and engage are too damn high. Cassies CC is not special - I would not risk additional orders just for noodlefighting. Cascuda is described as "artillery projectile, that stands up and opens fire". Make it happen, change explode to 14. Please :)
Totaly agree. Exp.+2 Dam should be easy. The new Cascuda look not very scary game-wise. With this CC stats everyone should take the opportunity to dodge into btb. WIP 12 with BTS 6 is another point. Weak vs hacking, but you want to be close to the enemy troops. Give it hacking protection would cost you at least one order after landing (fairydust). If you assist in landing, two orders ... the profile could be overall a bit more impressive. €dith: On the other hand though - its not expensive.
Need to clarify - I supposed it already has the 14 damage Explosion in AD the Trooper makes a Direct Template Attack, placing the center of the Circular Template (Blast Focus) over the center of their base. This Attack has Damage 12 with Normal Ammunition, against the ARM Attribute. So the Direct Template attack - is counted as a BS Attack without a roll Caskuda has +2 Damage for BS attacks So why you can't apply this modifier - suppose it should work either
