I don't know man, CB made a pretty strong effort to tell me Yu Jing was doing bad things but for the right reasons. Things about rampant crime and terrorism, about political corruption and the triads assaulting justice halls before the dragon woke up and formed the IS. Things about society advancing and shit. I guess it was all lies! All was lies. We are evil. We have always been evil. Why didn't anyone tell us, BTW? Is this another communication fuckup? Did CB forget to send a memo with "And BTW, Yu Jing is evil m8, put that in the book"? And the people talking about the wonderful greyness of the fluff? It was also a lie! Like this joker here: What a masterful trolling. You got me CB, you got me. You are truly masters of decepción*. *No, not a typo, "decepción" is how you say "disappointment" in Spanish.
We've gone from ruthless to cartoon stupid. Forget good and evil. Like @Aldo, @Hecaton, @Triumph myself and others were dreading from the moment the first warcor posted the first ENOUGH graphic, Yu Jing is being set up to be the deserving heel of a weeaboo Japanese apologist power fantasy. Existing, good quality fiction is being contradicted to empower cat-eared waifus and other cartoon rip-offs. Can we have some balanced fucking treatment please.
If that is really going to be the case, it will be all the more satisfying to crush that kitty biker waifu under the pneumatic boots of my Hsien. Come to the dark side, Huanglong ...
I wouldn't go as far as all that, @the huanglong . The fluff we've seen from Uprising paints the Japanese in an unsympathetic light as well. What they fucked up on was having the tyrannical voice within Yu Jing not being a slick propaganda outfit but rather cartoonishly evil.
Well, the world isn't balanced so! They wrote themselves a dictatorship and now they're continuing the story line. If Yu Jing players didn't realize that going into the fluff it's kind of their fault. The authors said that they'd present everything in shades of gray, but because you couldn't read the lines you collected a (somewhat) fascist police state. This makes a lot of sense in universe, and even though I doubt the JSA rebellion will be as successful as JSA hopes it will, I think that it is consistent and fair treatment.
Do you mean Kampeitai-Senpai not excusing Keisotsu-chan's sugoi clumsiness after she inadvertently thwarted that baka ninja kisama?
I mean, I'll ask someone to lend me their book so I can read it, I guess, and I'm expecting the new japanese state to be pretty shitty, seeing as Keisotsu still don't have Cubes and they live in an even more classist society, but Infinity hardly needs more dark. Puppies. We. Need. Puppies. But it seems evil is the theme of the season. I can't wait to read how evil the Blue Sea Project is and how much they hurt the Helots. Or how ruthless and evil the Tunguska families are. Or how.... ehhh... bad or something Ramah is. They don't do evil Haqq too often. Evil Vedic Aleph, of course. Evil Triunvirate. Joke, that's never coming out. Evil Shasvastii, who kinda have their reasons. And in May Heroic Invincible Army. I guess. I hope. I pray we get heroic Invincible Army. In May 2020 maybe, but still. Getting one of 2 kinda OK and the only Heroic Sectorial. Maybe this whole ISS deal is karmic debt, but if so I think they got it backwards. You pay after you get the thing. And maybe we'll just end up with evil bad guys in power armor. But I'm hoping for good and heroic. Posterboy shit, you know. Maybe even a hero? Like, a real chinese guy who happens to be a good guy and also a badass? Doesn't even need a good profile, just make him a WIP14 Zuyong without Breaker Pistols, with an Assault Pistol. Worked for Rao Communist Police State, thank you. Fascists are turning right at the political square. Yeah, the JSA guys? Those.
Hey, this whole time (I probably have used my JSA more than IS or vanilla I think), I never realised Keisotsu were playing for keeps. Might have come up if I ever took doctors in JSA before the split
I only ever played the all-bike list supported by a Karakuri haris, so I was never in a position to need a doctor or engineer, even if I had had one available.
You guys seem to have transcended to new levels. Post-human levels. You might actually consist almost entirely of salt at this point, its hard to know. Much of the recent evil-ness of Yu jing is a result of the worldwide campaign where Yu Jing made some pretty dubious moves. Sure, we can all blame high command, or literally just everyone else. CB are just following with what the players want.... The original fluff for Yu Jing is far from straight evil and far from cartoon evil. Maybe I've missed a recent story where they wrote about the local celestial guards fucking punting kittens over fences, so could be wrong.
The day I am comfortable with global campaigns influencing the background fiction I will have a fucking tag on my toe.
I'm not even sure anymore. psychoticstorm says what players do in campaigns doesn't matter, also says the fluff has wonderful greyness, but then people say Yu Jing was obviously Evil all along, but then other people say CB was writing grey and its our fault for not reading between the lines, but then you say Yu JIng wasn't evil. I'm not sure who can I trust anymore. I know who I can't trust, but that's hardly helpful. And following what players want doesn't seem to follow through with the amount of rage CB knowingly ('cause does anyone really think they didn't expect the RAEG?) caused. Players don't want RAEG. And I'm sure noone wanted all the tension and crispation generated by a group of individuals very frustrated with how CB is treating their faction. I didn't want to be frustrated. I wanted to keep enjoying my Infinity. But no. Couldn't be. CB really needs better PR people and crowd control. And a realistic schedule and deadline setting process. Probably an editor too Maybe today. Maybe today there will be less salt when we have something a bit more tangible than Bostria saying "I know what's in store and it is good" and "Invincible in May" memes. Or maybe there will be a lot more salt when the article is terrible. Do you feel lucky, kid? ÑO PUPPIEZ!
I have to say the overall tones of the online voices for Yu Jing in the last two campaigns as well as the latest news has left me with a negative feeling for Yu Jing. I will probably dump my Yu Jing models, not because of the fluff, but because of the community. Very negative and whiny. Is they latest 'news' post ugly and vicious? Yes, of course. This is an insurrection. Internal wars throughout history have been some of the most vicious and bloody. Both sides are likely to be committing atrocities. If this was a civilized affair, the situation would be solved with lawyers and diplomats. This is a war. War is ugly. I think it is a pretty genius move on CB's part to expand the narrative possibilities. The last two online campaigns have been about the evil invading EI, which the Human Sphere must unite to have any chance of slowing them down. When in fact, the Combined army is a small faction. The players through no fault of their own, just can't present the kind of threat they need to. Also how many campaigns can we have of the invading EI, before players get bored with the premise. I bet this leads directly to the online campaign. Here we have the splintering of a major power. Every faction has a solid reason to fight any other faction. Yu Jing will fight the Japanese and anyone who sides with them. JSA will fight Yu Jing and anyone who sides with them. Panoceania will fight for both sides, because no matter who wins the megacorps rake in the money, and weaken a rival Nomads will fight for money, or to support another outsider that strengthens their own position Haqqislaam will be sending their teams of doctors to care for the fallen, and to make sure their deliveries of 'silk' arrive safely. Ariadna will fight for much the same reasons as the Nomads Aleph will fight to try and bring stability to the conflict. Combined Army will fight to destabilize the area to soften it up for future expansion Tohaa will fight because . . . well I guess they have nothing better to do right now. Any faction could fight any faction during this conflict, and it will make a lot more sense than "Aleph fights Ariadna because the EI is invading I guess?"
Why in the world would you let the disposition of other YJ players affect what faction you play? It’s not like they affect your games.
Expounding for those that didn't already know. Ewww. Does not work well. You just convinced the Japanese who might have been intending to keep their hard-earned First Class Citizenship in YJ that the Imperial Service will kill them for the crime of being Japanese. Yeah, I'm not so happy now. Still epic counter-insurgency warfare fail, to convince everyone that their only choice is to revolt and maybe die before the civilians get evacuated or to get killed by the Imperial Service. You gotta know how to pitch it, and that ain't it. Either that Crane is a Kempei (or Shas) impersonator, or he is going to get his head removed from his shoulders when the Emperor sees this. You need to make it so that the Japanese civilians like the Imperial Service more than the Secessionists. It can be done (hell, the US did it in Afghanistan in places), but if you don't do it you will lose the war. Better quote: "These are the graves of the innocent ethnic-Japanese civilians killed by Secessionists. Though I am Chinese, I weep for them with you, for they are innocent. Those who attack and kill innocents are nothing more than mad dogs and will be put down as such without exception. I will weep that it became necessary for me to put them down. The Imperial Service protects all innocents, regardless of their ethnicity, from the kinds of monsters who would do this." That's how you actually win a damn counter-insurgency! How about not dying because the Basic Living Stipend isn't enough to cover the cost of the commlog updates neccessary to see the damn AR-only 'Road Construction - Bridge Out' signs? (Campaign Paradiso, pg 74) Trust me, you do not want to know. My money is on something on the level of My Lai, ordered directly by the Old Man on the Mountain.
You are correct, it is a bit of a childish reaction of mine. I did have a small vanilla Yu Jing Army. With the split I was left with two forces, to small to field by themselves. I will need to buy figures to bring either side up to a full playable force. I was positive on the change though, because I never felt like JSA really belonged in Yu Jing, and I looked forward to the possibilities to expand each identity. The negative quality of the online leadership of the Yu Jing forces in the last two campaigns has influenced how I perceive the faction. I currently have little desire to expand my Yu Jing side, I probably won't actually dump the figures, they will just be sidelined. I might expand my JSA forces, but in the meantime, I will probably use my Aleph miniatures.
