It's sad that a faction with such unique gameplay is barely supported. At least could have made a reinforcement box with some of the old units. And maybe brought back Gorgos for a big reinforcement unit. CB seems to have some plans for the Tohaa, they feature in the Endsong lore, but this limbo state is definitely not pleasant. And I'm not even a Tohaa player
Jokes are cool and all, but yeah, that was a bit distasteful - we know Tohaa is right next to the chopping block, but that's no reason to just spit in the face of its players. Any new skills would go a long way of making the reinforcements feel good - NCO on Neema, linkability on Draals, revisiting the Ectros and tweaking the thing here and there, adding Kerails/Kiel-Saan/Sukeuls to reinforcements. Anything that would show that CB respects Tohaa players a tiny bit more
So Aleph will get a Dawon with Panzerfaust - but where is Panzerfaust? Not in the profile. It looks like there is a lot of unfinished business here. Also not a word about the two other new units. The new REMs are pretty cool, especialy the fighting cat. Btw dogged on REM is not new (they talked about in the video), it came with the release of Onyx. Maximus is a real beast - I like that they make a TAG of him - pretty cool. Still his armor look a bit wired at the chest.
@burlesford I'm assuming you mean a new unit, as there were new Igai profiles shown. Most likely because they're not an in production faction. The Reinforcements rules they got can be used with people's existing collections, a new box would only be bought by people with an existing Tohaa collection, so already have a limited audience, and put stores in the odd position of having a new box on their shelves that's for a faction that's no longer sold.
Exrah are returning from ashes of hard-to-sell products after years. There is still hope :) I guess if Tohaa is at least on life support, it means CB may have some plans for them in the future. That being said, I'm with you Tohaa players - seeing no new things for Artichokes is sad.
Shasvastii, Merovingia, Qapu Khalqi, Exrah are all indicators that when the design team thinks they can do justice to a faction they give all they can to it, yes, it takes time, but good things come to those that wait.
Yes, but here we are speaking about rules too. No new profiles were shown whatsoever. Ruleswise the update was extremely bland. Yes, there are some rather strong things, for example being able to drop a button pusher and two heavy flamer chaksas in the middle of the board, but there is nothing new, fresh, interesting like for example the Squalo 2.0. Would it have killed someone to have a Gorgos 3.0?
Out of these only Shasvastii are a good example of this "giving all they can to it" (and even there mistakes were made). For the rest it remains to be seen. We've also seen a lot of extremely lazy design decisions over the years, so it's not like our skepticism comes out of the blue. I've said it before and I will repeat it again: instead of constantly releasing "new best thing since sliced bread", CB should look back more and make sure everything already released is on the same level power- and fun factor-wise.
I can't wait for the book, but he mentioned that PanO/Yu Jing are first in like, October/ November, and so the stuff I want to see won't be out until next year anyway. Granted I never get to play, but it's still a little disappointing that if I want to try reinforcements, it'll be with a bunch of proxies.
That's not a great issue, Infinity has very permissive proxy rules and we do not expect CB to release 10 6-model boxes in one month. We know that CB is not GW-sized, as much as we want to. As long as reinforcements turn out to be balanced and engaging to play, most players won't mind waiting a few months too much, I believe.
Personally I'm glad I'm not going to have several expensive boxes come out the same month! Spreads out the impact on my wallet.
An alien race with a peculiar gameplay, who have minimun to no support and eventually dissapear ATM, you cant find them in the faction filter in the shop...
