One day build for a boarding action 'board in a box' for when you want to play Infinity on the go without hauling a shipping container worth of scenery around.
Built entirely from 5mm foamcore and PVA glue, and fits in a shoe box.
Rough and ready, but easy to set up, very modular, and just enough for a quick game.

    City planters:
One set is made from 3mm PVC foamboard, lined with the foam from CB boxes, then brown sand, glue, and flock flowers.
    MicrosoftTeams-image (6).jpg MicrosoftTeams-image (7).jpg
Other other is made from 3mm MDF leftovers sprues, interconnected, glued, bit of carboard for support internally, and then the same brown sand, glue and flowers.

Oh, old times, good times :) When my community was younger we didn't have so many "official" terrain and were making our own. I made quite a few building of some wipe box, coca-cola can, salad box or even high-flush fragments :D Everything was good with a bit of imagination, corrugated cardboard and paint...

Sadly don't know where the wip photos are, but some of my work is still used - even on my "official" table:

The closest building were scratch made.

These buildings are amazing! The detail is great, and that poster ad is a genius addition.

First one, my LIMB (cybernetics installation shop/clinic from the Deus Ex series of games) building.

Next up, my sushi shack, the elevated building it sits upon and the rear stairs. 3mm foamed pvc sheet (palight/sintra).

Bus stop shelter. 3mm foamed pvc, with some leftover acrylic MAS bits

Fast food shack. Leftover parts from a warmill building but the building itself is all scratch from foamed pvc sheet. With a squeezy yoghurt cap for a vent.

Super simple LoF blocking 'concrete walls'.
Made from 5mm foamcore, cut into 5cm width x 7.5cm height panels, doubled up for thickness. Pulled all the paper off and some chunks of the foam. Poked some holes with a pen to resemble the tie-holes in concrete, engraved the panel lines with the pen, and then rolled a ball of tin-foil over all the panels for texture. Sealed with glue and paint, then sponged with black - grey - white. Blue and red paint flicked on for splashes, orange for rust, brown sponged on for dirt. Paint pens for graffiti and printed transparent sticker paper for posters.

I love this thread! Thank you for starting it, and all who have put pics in so far. Wargaming should always have a strong DIY element, in my opinion, especially terrain! Custom terrain keeps the game fresh.

Right on the border of 'scratch-built' but I've discovered Bing image generator (free to use, after sign-in) to create sci-fi posters for terrain. Takes a bit of playing around, and all the text is complete nonsense, but at miniature scale its barely readable anyway.
I've used the image creator tool to make Yu Jing and Nomad themed posters, generic posters, and even character/unit images. I probably have about 50 pages of stuff by now, and its mostly quantity over quality, but here's some examples:

I finally came around and painted an old Central Room (I think I assemble that one in 2016 or so... but never painted it).

By its side, official 3 stories building I made some cardboard "roofs" so I can use them separate (only one has the windows "open", so they are not that useful for inside play).

This is some of the easiest scenery I think I've made - Silos
Made from 3" and 4" diameter cardboard 'parcel tubes' cut to height.
I created and printed textures using Bing Image Creator using prompts like 'concrete clean industrial texture large', 'concrete industrial texture plate snow', 'rusted military texture round snowy' etc. - 'round' and 'plate' helped to get circular textures to cover the top of the tube.
Sized the texture images to match the tube circumference, printed, and glued with PVA.
*I printed onto ~250gsm paper, but found it works well enough with regular printer paper as long as you use minimal PVA glue, otherwise it tends to crinkle up.
** Under the spoiler I created 'open silos' by using the parcel tube caps, coated with paint and PVA glue + water. I partially mixed the paint to give the illusion of fluid.

I had a lot of 3mm foamboard and needed a large LoF-blocking building. I wanted the option for a playable interior, so I came up with a 'cut-away' building designed to be placed against the board side-edge, hopefully giving plenty of access to move models around, but still blocking LoF across the table. Added some removable doors and acrylic sections, and prepping some resin 'keypads' and mdf ladders. The final addition will be a glass elevator made from acrylic tubing that will go between the floors. Each floor also stands alone so the upper floors can be placed back to back to make one huge room.
Now I'm worried how well it will actually work on the table...

Version 2.0 of "Super simple LoF blocking 'concrete walls'."
Mostly the same as last time with a bit more pizzazz.
Made from 5mm foamcore, cut into 5cm width x 7.5cm height panels, doubled up for thickness. Pulled all the paper off and some chunks of the foam. Poked some holes with a pen to resemble the tie-holes in concrete, engraved the panel lines with the pen, and then rolled a ball of tin-foil over all the panels for texture.*For v2.0 I added plasterboard scrim tape between the two layers of foam* Sealed with glue and paint, then sponged with black - grey - white *pushing more towards grey/white this time*. Blue and red paint flicked on for splashes, orange for rust, brown-red sponged on for dirt. Paint pens for graffiti *and this time added AI-generated paper posters using 50:50 glue and water on both sides, then weathered with green and brown washes.*

Forgot to add my almost finished scratch-built modular city buildings on here, designed to fit the MicroArtStudio District 5 mat.
There are 24 individual rooms, to make ~11 buildings including an objective room.
Made from 5mm and 3mm PVC foamboard, they were sprayed white and grey, weathered with red-brown sponging, painted graffiti, grimey washes, streaking, and weathered AI-generated paper posters.

I've not shared the LoF blocking 'covered cargo' on here yet.
    Super simple -
    1. Chop spare foam into cubes and cuboids.
    2. Hot glue, or PVA glue them into interesting shapes and arrangements
    3. Dip cotton (I bought 1m.sq cotton and cotton mesh on eBay) into diluted PVA mixed with drab paints and drape over the foam shapes
    4. Once dry, paint again with dilute drab colours to add more colour intensity.
    5. Not shown, but I trimmed the excess material with some scissors once everything was dry.

Managed to use my 'cut-away' building AND all the modular city buildings in the latest game - a friendly ISS vs Bakunin game of Unmasking. Briefly written up here: First steps with ISS

Great to see them in action, and no major issues with the cut-away building's accessibility or gameplay. Now I just need to paint it properly.

Thanks KGG for motivating me to get back into terrain, this set is made from Pizza Box, it has a base coat but needs weathering to finish it.

My camera does not like blue lights . . .

Im making good progress on another version of the above that I started in 2021, it is much bigger, elevated and interconnected.

Man, these are fantastic! Beautiful detailing, and the shapes are really cool - pizza box origami!
I love the roof pieces, and the internal red, external blue lighting is wonderful.

Have you played a game on it yet? How's it play?
