So I was thinking based on the fluff, which for me what would be the best faction to live under as a civilian. As I favor stability, general happiness, and safety below is my order.
    1. Combined. With the trillions of subjects, odds are I would live a peaceful life helping the EI reach transcendence and never even know that Umbra exist.
    2. PanO: Living comfortably and in safety. Major worries would be trying to keep up with the Jones.
    3. O-12: I could definitely see this lower with the Intergalactic invasion going on, but it was probably wonderful until then.
    4. Haqqislam: Modern society that holds academia and science in high regard. However, there is a good chance you might be unfortunately born under the horrors of a Kum ruled area.
    5. YUJING: Built in ethnic hierarchical culture that is resistant to individuality and change.
    6. ALEPH: You are literally a cog in the machine.
    7. Ariadna: Nearly everything on the planet is trying to kill you, but you at least have Coca-Cola and sports.
    8. Tohaa: You are being ground into dust as the powers that be throw you into buzzsaw for a few more moments of power.
    9. Japanese Nation: Another highly rigid society with a much worse standard of living and even less opportunities.
    10. Nomads: Oh, boy. Forced labor, brutal conditions, systemic gangs, violence, exploitation, mad science, and limited value of life.
How would you rank the living as a civilian in one of the Infinity societies?

Small quibble with Combined, they're never going to transcend as the Ur were ultimately unworthy of Ascension which gives the EI a sisyphean task. It also sucks to be part of a society it deems "useless" or no longer useful.

Agreed about CA, I choose Nomads as my number one. But I can’t say why, so many eyes and ears…!

Well... I have a different point of view on it. And at my taste...
Let me tell you about my view on factions and different planets.
They are various... (I like Infinity world after all)

So, Panoceania... I like this one. High tecnologies, good economy, people are involved in politic life.
I could feel myself comfortable in it. But what planet to choose.

    - Acontecimemto is my favorite. They are not the richest, but have a good and strong middle class. Industry and agriculture. Would be nice to have a home there and a garden to care about with my remotes-gardeners. Plus this planet is a homeland of my lovely Gata! She is an Aristeia player. So graceful... So, for now it feels like 9/10. Plus tomatos from there are really tasty.

    - Neoterra. It have some charm, but too much activity. Not for me, especially in a big cities. Plus there you can see some edgy moments, when less integrated in the system people are making some troubles. I'll give it 6/10. And I dont like their brochures. I am not corporate worker. Business and glass towers not my choice.

    - Varuna. Oh! Beaches there are something. So lovely! And cities are elegant. Plus locals are very pretty. They are what?! So they are used as... Hey!!! Live that lovely amphybias alone!!! 0/10. It could be 10, but their attitude to locals, "helots", should be better for better marks.

Ok, we are over here. Lets move too Yu Jing. They have pretty posters and lovely slogans.
I like clear structure, adequate people and... Hm, ok, stucture seems not so clear now. So, this is some kind of two forces inside government. But all that tinsel with yung-yang makes me confused.
Anyway, life here is not easy but predictable in some direction.

    - On Shentang I see comfortable industrial views, people are usual, in their own thoughts but friendly. I see smiles. Good, that lessons of Uprising was learned. More comfortable place. Some Imperial Service workers on the street gives me feel of safety. 8/10

    - Yutang... I guess, I am just not about that luxury vibes... Too much pathos like on Neoterra. Same coin.
    6/10

Haqqislam... Our next place for, may be, future living. May be this ticket?
Oh, no, they are still better suited for their haqqismal followers, and I am not about that, but place is interesting for tourism. Plus their medicine is something.
Only one planet, so, I would just continue. Tell you the truth, safier be in a big cities. In the besert around there are lots of dangers from weather and to the bands of bikers.
Be careful on markets and dont be shy to bargain there. It is a part of etiquette. Dont hurry to end the game of trade)
Charming place. Better to visit it a couple of times. 7/10.

    Nomads... Simple!
    - Corregidor. If you want to be beaten and robbed.
    - Tunguska. If you want to be robbed in a more elegant way and sell your liver to close bedts.
    - Bakunin. If you want to be robbed, f*****d, grow tail and get into sect. They gave me... Some strange book about devils of the net... What?! (ok... Some of their things were fine, some of their services were useful. I would be back. 9/10. My secret guilt...) nonono.

Dawn is a grate place. So retro! Like from pictures of last century!!! May be they understand something.
But not for living. 5/10 only for people and their determination in eyes that is on the border of madness...
Their wolves are scary, but Cities are safe. Good places for camping, but nature woukd not let you do that(
It is hard to live for unprepared people, and even on prepared in leaves some marks.

Aleph? What about aleph? Good helper.

Combined army? I've heared about them. Scary aliens. If that thing that rulesntheir promise better world then why hurry somewhere and make it by force? Despotia is despotia...

Eh... ok, my flight to Shentang is soon. It was nice to talk with you.
(and here it is a simple oppinion of my character in this lovely world. Not only, and may be not exactly about factions but also about that.)

I would tend to put the O-12 as the best human faction, apart from the invasion problem, which is only affecting isolated, sparsely populated corners for the moment. Living is still pretty normal and there are reinforcements from all throughout the Sphere that will be forced to fight to the max if the powers do not want to lose the main server of Aleph. The society, from what I've read, is an ideal version of the EU, with a social ascension side that seems to work well according to Katherine Cho, although she is still an ensign despite her record of service that should have made her a space marshal...
In Panoceania, we are in a society like the one in India with an underclass called Atek and an overclass rich, like in the usual cyberpunk societies, the Atek are excluded from all the benefits of the Panoceania. In terms of social ascension, we are not in the optimum, Yu Jing would do better in this regard.
If you are Mero, I think you might go to position 6, due to the wine and food, a toaster aleph has no real understanding of human pleasures.

If you like surfing, traveling and exciting nights, Varuna merits a special place. If you want to spend your better moment, already know that it is possible in the infinity rpg and also that we have on the forum a varunian brochure on the functioning of this curious native with which to empathize.

For the moment, in Panoceania a Atek is known to have been the first man to have accomplished this...

    Ooooooh, that was good.

I did not mention ALEPH in previous message.
To be honest live in ALEPH world is interesting perspective, but nothing is clear here.
Rework everyone in posthumans and so on... look at Dart. She is fine. (Ok, things complicated there)

But it is more about curiosity. New form of being. Would it be Combine 2.0? I don’t think so.
ALEPH have a different goal. To care about humanity. If I am right. But would we be still humans on this way?
Because transhumanism gave us utopian and antiutopian pictures of the future.

And I believe in better on this road.

EI of Ur scares me more than excites. Because our safety and good life isn’t it’s goal. And we are just resource to reach the main purpose.

Tohaa cares about tohaa first of all. And humanity already was used and tricked. And here we are on a position of being resource under their control.

But I really like this forces. Not less than the others.

AND I WANT EQUAL RIGHTS TO HELOTS! x)

Depends on how you define "best." With many of the ones you've defined as "best," there is little to no right of self-determination. In PanO the people on the street don't have a say in their government.

    I think I like O12.

But I would for sure not kill myself to put a copy in a LHost (or something like that). There seems to be a huge cult of „I am my cube“, whereas I am convinced that I am my body and my cube ist just a recording. I even felt sorry for a NPC in the RPG whom I put into a LHost with a backgroundstory like „body was terminally ill, so the parents put their daughter in an LHost and she ‚survived‘“. Poot girl is dead and a digital copy of her is now a LHost-Zombie and everyone thinks she is still alive =(
(and the zombie thinks this herself, too, probably - very tragic, if you ask me)

With this cube, the Infinity universe has some very creepy technology. Maybe I would fit in Ariadna best ;D

In this case girl could be poor, but her parents defenetly not.

Hm... I guess, I would gladly live in some big city in Merovingia. Some "exotic" stuff from space closer.

Hmm. I think I’d agree with this ranking except I’d switch the positions of PanO and the Combined for the reason @colbrook stated. If the EI seems you expendable, then off you go. Much less so for the AI governing the human sphere. At least for now…

Since I’ve played the RPG I’d probably go with PanO for living.

I’d probably go to Neoterra as they make it snow for Christmas and I think it’d look nice, plus I’m a winter person and there are some colder areas with great things to see and do. Think Von Moltke area does Oktoberfest... Varuna is probably where I’d settle down though due to the laid back attitudes and nice scenery. Then again there’s Acontecimento and it’s got really nice places too with a melting pot of culture.

I’d only go to Dawn if I wanted to establish my bloodline as one that will eventually rule the known universe (need to change my name to Atreides for that one and wait a few thousand years).

As for the others… hmm. Bourak could be nice, especially if you’re in the better off areas. Plus if you can establish yourself with someone who trades in Silk..

The O-12/Aleph ones were quite nice too before the war so they’re options to consider when it’s all over. Paradiso too for the same reason. Unless the war gets ugly and the worlds get ruined which is a sad possibility.

Yu Jing… difficult to say. I think it’d depend on where but having an authoritarian government invading my space every five minutes may get old fast. Or I’ll acclimatise.

JSA have it tough lately but I can imagine some of their places looking very pretty. Like Tokyo in early January with the ice sculptures and cherry blossoms starting out. Could be nice but you’ve got Yu Jing breathing down your neck.

I’m not going near the Nomad nation.

The body has a strong influence on the personality, a lot of things go through the digestive system, does the Cube transcribe this? Does the Lhost cause changes?
For example, if you don't have enough serotonin for whatever reason, you will be angry easily and fatigued among other symptoms, if you have a genetic disease that prevents you from properly absorbing the sources of serotonin, will the Cube recreate this problem? If not, can we still say that the Cube is you when that anger and fatigue that defined you is eliminated?
Wouldn't the Cubes and the Lhost be in fact puppets of ALEPH?

Anyway the best place is the Tohaa Empire, you have access to lots of nice alien servants who all volunteer to work for you for free, and they are happy to serve you every day. :ok_hand:

I'd say Haqq for me. 1.) with Pan0 being in bed with the Catholic Church, i feel that Haqq offers a true freedom of religion without the anarchy of the Nomads. I have nothing against the Catholic church, but wearing a cross and serving in a monastic order in order to earn enough points to be resurrected is not something my religion would allow. 2.) They are humanist and prosperous. 3.) I like living in deserts.

Hm... I guess, you would like Svalarheima. It is not so cold as people are saying. Except the moments, when it is blizzard, but it is never a good time.
People are living in -40 or -45. Did you saw PanO and YuJing line troops equipment there? Maximum -30)

Ok, if make it simple rate...

    1. PanO if you are not atek
    2. YuJing because despite some taste of despotia there are some stability.
    3. Novy Bangkok. You are living almost without O-12 patrols and far from that human sphere rules.
Almost. It have some minuses, but they are not big.
