Cenobite/ Penitent are just religious terms used in a religious group, so their use doesn't mean much of anything else.
That said, people keep using the term "grimdark", like we're not allowed to say "these look like GW style" or "these look too much like Sisters of Battle", neither of which I agree with, but maybe some are using "grimdark" to mean a gothic/ catholic/ dark tone to the units and things, which I agree with.

So yeah, I don't even know what you guys mean when you say "grimdark" for sure, and who knows if you're even all using it the same.

She's going to blast the sickness out of you I guess. Sorry, they may not look exactly like GW Sisters but they have the same feeling.

I disagree, beyond the most superficial connection, been armed nuns, there is no connection between the two, aesthetically or fluff related.

'Feelings' could be the same, and one of the task CB should have handled would be differentiating the Observance from the design of battle-nun in other games, especially SoB.

And I think CB has accomplished it quite well.

to be fair, a "cenobite" is a term a little bit older than the flying baby-mashines GW named them after; on the long run it is just a fancy word for a monk living in a monestary. Or, if you don´t want to go back till the middle ages, "Cenobites" are also the terms for the (very bakuninish) Hellraiser-Demons. Based on that, CBs shot for cenobites seem to be closer than whatever GW does with this lobotomised servants.

"balst away the sickness" - aaah the TraumaDoc style of treating wounded allies. "Well, at least he stopped screaming, and thats good for moral" :-D

The more often i compare SoB and Observance (and thats a lot of times in the last couple of days) i see less and less similarity from the GunNuns to the servo-armored, bolter armed, uni-hairstyled, banner whilding, heroic-scaled grimdark sisters. I still wonder why so much see that similarities with SoB, but no one seems to with TOGOTG (the later is way more over-the-top, but at least the same scale....)

I mean, there is a certain design similarity between the S5 and the infamous "nundam", as the meme (not mine) points out. The cartoonish swords which replaced the previous melee weapons are also not helping.

Not gonna lie, but the Observance lady seems closer to an advanced P-5000 Power Loader (designed 2025 by weyland corp., so roughly 100 years of developtment) than this comicly oversized walker (which fits the W40K style)

I think many are mistaken by the name "Reverend Healer":

The full name is of this troops is Reverend Healer-Killers. The true purpose of these women is to heal the Sphere of the Evil within by extirpating it altogether. Trained as an assault commando and as a specialized assassin, ...

I really see no connection between the two, neither in design nor aesthetics, plus if someone would be accused for "copying homework" it would be the one who was not introducing models with master slave control system for 15 years.

Yep, no connection or similarities AT ALL. Nevermind the background of the pictures looking like 40k scenary also.

Also, when you use less utilized words like "cenobite" that have been in use for ages to designate well known units for a well known game it really comes across as you wanting to capitalize on the other game's vastly bigger popularity. You can go "ackchyually" all you want with how greatly CB uses the word, it doesn't change the fact it's a very premeditated move to link these products to Sisters of Battle to try and draw in 40k fans, just like they did with "servoarmored crusaders in space"

A Christian derived religious order has a cathedral as a backdrop? what a surprise? No, it does not look like 40k, lines are clear, unnecessary clutter like shrine equipment is non existent and designs are purpose build to function instead of something cobbled together and a distinct lack of sculls everywhere.

40k never had a monopoly in religious orders, nor in catholic looking temple designs, it has a distinct design of a run down, post apocalyptic, universe and the observance shares none of it.

When I say 'grimdark' I mean the aesthetic, yes.

'Grimdark' has evolved a lot to mean more than just 'Looks like 40k'. Nowadays it's more 'this looks over the top dark and might have some rather depressive themes in it'. And I do think these new bakunin ladies are leaning a bit more towards the baroque and overwrought religiousness than even Military Orders do, so yeah, they are 'grimdark'.

Do I think they are GW copies? No. Do I like them? Yes. But there is some darkness going on here, and I'm all for it.

It stands for 'Toughest Girls of the Galaxy' a line of female-only models from a Company called Raging Heroes, well known for its over the top cheesecake models, many of which are extremely scantily clad if not downright naked. They do have amazingly well-done sculpts and some incredibly fun looking models (Nuns riding massive warbikes on fire with scorpion tails are cool, as are avenging angels, come on).

This I 100% agree with. Observance is going for less overwrought design and keeping the Infinity style. However, there is some baroqueness to them. So, I'd say they are Grimdark, but not '40k-lite'.

Yes! Hellraiser-the Monopoly Game! Who does not know the the alltime, worldwide phenomenomnomnom, played by young and old alike!

cause no one ever did that.
    *caugh* GW
    *caugh*Starcraft
    *caugh*warcraft*
    *caugh* TGOTG
    *caugh* Zombicide
    *caugh* Guild Ball
    ...

you mean, the Sister of Battle GW pissed on and threw into a corner for 2 decades?

Yep. Black Space Crusaders in infinity are way better than Black Space Crusaders in GW. And not just because they are limited to a handful of mediocre managed units in someone elses codex after beeing treated like mold bread for 10 years. The new BT codex came to late to draw me back into the arms of that company.
I came for the cooler Space crusaders, I stayed because the overall design, the gameplay, the Game overall, the amazingly more adult and friendly community is way better than anything GW did in the last 20 years.

But it´s quite amusing that some act like the redesign (which, as we all know, is a very objectiv matter and there is just one right way to do) seems to be an personal attack to their very person.

Sorry, it´s one "O" to much, my bad.
Its "Toughest Girls Of The Galaxy" from Raging heroes, a "We copy gw modells in kind-of pinup design and name them differently, so GW cant sue us"-modell range for SoB and Dark Eldar / Dark elves (oder...druchhini? Zuchhini?.....dont know how the are named novadays)
But in the end every possible option in a GW codex can be proxied be a modell, what surprisingly well fits.

Amazing design, okayisch modell quality, and defenetly not on the subtle side of portraying female charakters.

So after all your "this is not even inspired by Sisters of Battle at all" now you are basically saying "yes, they are inspired by them but it doesn't matter because everybody does it". Good enough for me, that's all I was saying, I really dunno where you got the idea people feel personally attacked by the restyling... on that same topic, show us in the doll where GW touched you

The fact that people can see the word "Cenobite" and think of GW and not Hellraiser is frankly shameful! Especially as its likely one of the things that inspired parts of early 40k.
